  1. Re:Like a partition? on SysInternals Releases RootkitRevealer · · Score: 1

So basically, you're waiting for a boot sector virus of old. There were a few that did exactly that. Booting off of safe media alone would render the drive unreadable.

Of course, it sounds like you're referring to one running under windows, which means at least part of the filesystem would need to be unencrypted for windows to be able to load and then load the virus drivers (well, unless the virus could somehow place its own load before windows... but I'm not sure how feasible that would be). So otherwise then it would have to deal with seperating the partition somehow, or only encrypt on a file by file basis, or only affect extra partitions. All of those cases are semi-broken compared to complete encryption.

Oh, I won't argue that. I had my share of good instructors and my share of useless/incompetent ones as well. There are certainly factors which are valid complaints about it vs a traditional school, but a lot of the complaints I've heard are hardly restricted to instruction at DeVry. Complaints about useless professors, management which keeps them around, instructors' teaching styles or lack thereof, etc etc etc.... I've heard similar from friends who went to University of Calgary. I think a lot of it is just inherent ascpect of schooling in general. That said, I do wish I'd had an experience that was more a mix of DeVry and UofC. The course load at DeVry didn't cover nearly as wide of breadth as I would have liked to have, though I'm sure we spent more time in specific areas.

Anyway, I replaced my power supply and that resolved the power problem, but caps on my motherboard started smoking immediately after. Arghhhh...

Hope you have better luck than I :) (My power supply fried itself again 6mo later so I replaced the el-cheapo one with an Enermax and grabbed a cheap APC UPS while I was at it).

We just had a ~160 person Alliance raid on the horde on Windrunner the other night, and that's how the lag was but worse. It was pretty much insane. We poured into Ogrammir and it looked almost like nobody was hitting anybody, npc or otherwise. I'm sure some damage was being done, but I ran back and forth by multiple horde npcs/pcs and attacked them, hit once or twice, and didn't get touched.

We actually had enough lag from that many people that on our way over there we managed to kick half of the people out of the server or something. Most of the people had just loaded up onto a Zepplin, and it moved like 5 feet away from dock and poof. I started out a ways back from where I had been, while other people randomly dropped into the ocean/etc. Fun stuff.

Well, I think people are pretty much just complaining to complain as well. I don't doubt some servers have had issues, and my server has been up and down some, but overall it's been pretty good. So many of the other MMORPGs have had stability issues. During the brief time I played FFXI after its NA launch, it seemed to be down every other day for maintenance - that after however long they had to prepare from it running in Japan only. As far as your 50+ people raid with no lag, that's pretty good. We had a massive 160+ person raid the other night on Windrunner which was an experience quite the opposite of that. Just sitting there by Southshore we were lagged, and once we actually moved and attacked the horde it was lagged like 15-30+ seconds behind and looked more like pinball than anything.
