On the other hand poisonous smart sand would make a fantastic weapon. Make it be able to hop or crawl by giving it little piezoelectric actuators and you could make an ordinary looking patch of sand suddenly come to life when activated by an enemy soldier's touch, swarming over his body and forcing itself under his gas mask seals and into his eyes, nose, ears and mouth. And then it could hide out in the body, waiting for the next victim.
many thanks for being the first person to ever make me have sand-related nightmares.
excellent point. ever heard of a band called Fugazi? they never play gigs where ID's are required, never charge more than $5 for the show, and have never, ever signed with a major label. yet they're successful, have their own label now, and their shows are constantly sold out. they tour all year round. they've made a name for themselves as moralistic and anti-corporate, yet not anti-capitalist. incredible! they've done something few "popular" bands have ever been able to do - make good money without sacrificing their rights to their music or their creativity.
ghost in the shell: standalone complex
macross zero
ranma 1/2 (okay, this is debatable - but still, there are so many boob shots it's not really for children anymore)
lupin III
and a whole slew of excellent, critically acclaimed anime that's fully adult-oriented.
while i recognize that the simpsons, futurama, family guy, and beavis and butthead are some of the funniest shows i've ever seen, they just lack, well, intelligence. unless of course your idea of smart conversation goes along the lines of "shut up, beavis. shut up, butthead. huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh."
what i really miss is MTV's liquid tv - excellent experimental adult-oriented animation. Aeon Flux, anyone? The Head? that one that had a daisy that swore at everything?
It's kinda sad, when I was a kid they used to open the door and let kids look into the cockpit while boarding the plane. That's no more and will never be again.
tell me about it - when i was around 12 or so, the first time i rode an airplane, the head stewardess called me and my mom over while we were boarding the plane. "do you want to see the cockpit?" she asked me. wide-eyed and speechless, i went with her to the front of the plane, past the people in first class, and straight to the cockpit where three very friendly pilots showed me the controls of the 747. they actually even let me play with the throttle for a while! i think i broke into a huge grin when i heard the engines roar with power, because they started laughing and smiling at each other. when i left one of the pilots gave me a pin that he took from his uniform, and a card with a picture of the 747 and the specs of the plane on the back.
it's one of the happiest and most memorable experiences from my childhood - the wonder of all that technology, all that great engineering at your fingertips. sad now that the kids of the next generation won't be able to experience that sort of thing. (unless they become pilots, of course)
you forgot 5. profit;D which is basically the goal of the whole enterprise, isn't it? making a good game is fine and all, but when it gets down to it all the game companies really, REALLY want to do is make money.
believe it or not, some people actually like the taste of good coffee... not the buzz that comes when you slurp down 4 or 5 cups of it. the jittery feeling you get when you've had too much is just... unpleasant. sure, you may be able to keep coding all night, but at what expense? your health?
despite the fact that it sounds like it was ripped from an 80's movie, i'll have to concede that it has a certain ring to it:D you could have bill and ted advertising it... or is that not a good idea?
i fail to see how this has any bearing on the discussion at hand. seeing as you apparently have no knowledge about filipino culture (or even how to SPELL filipino) i'd say you're either:
a.) a stupid idiot
b.) a troll
c.) a & b
a few million? you should see the SMSing going on here in the Philippines, then. last i heard around 60 million are sent everyday. 1 peso per SMS (or "text", as we call it), at an exchange rate of 55 pesos per 1 USD... not bad, hmm?
i remember a bunch of scientists came over to study the SMS phenomenon that's going on here. apparently the cellphone services here have to keep upgrading constantly to keep up with all the messages flying around. not that they're complaining - they're making a killing anyway. people in the provinces here actually buy cellphones instead of landlines. considering it can take two months or more to have your landline installed, i guess getting a cellphone in one day is a much better alternative. cheaper, too - prepaid cards here can go as low as 100 pesos, for SMS-only services. 300 pesos for call-and-SMS, with 33 free SMS messages.
an interesting upshot of this is that almost ALL kids here have the latest phones - the kind that you'd usually see corporate executives or businessmen using. it's funny, really.
all too true - check out this pic. i'm [moron]baki. a couple of people from my gaming community, people whom i respect and generally think well of, tried to kick me because they thought i was cheating:( just because i was using a different nick from the one i usually use. cheating-death is already implemented on the servers, what's missing really is *trust*.
if you can't trust the guy on the other team (or even your team) to be honorable and play fair, then we're never going to get anywhere with stopping cheating. people these days are just too good, too skilled. we'll end up finger-pointing at each other all day long.
oh my god, i actually clicked on the link to the article and read it! am i banned from slashdot now?:(
anyhoo, back to the subject. so they're making a new division solely for animated films? that's great - shrek is currently one of my favorite movies and i thought ice age was funny, yet oddly touching. if they keep it up they can certainly expect to keep me going back to watch their films. now if only they can keep lucas from taking part in actually *writing* anything...
you were able to experiment? i got as far as the theory, then i felt all dirty.
is that where you take a can of whoop-ass and mix in some dont care?

i believe the popular explanation is that, and i quote: it's so bad.

too bad there isn't a "+1, melancholy" option.
this from a guy whose name is billy bob?
there's probably some insane surfer who actually WOULD get off on a wave like that :P think about it. it's the perfect wave.
Playstation tooooo Extreme

given their track record... isn't MS just "leasing" this stuff to us, not actually *selling* it? ;)

do you by any chance work for catbert in the HR division?
that sounds a bit too much like a twilight zone episode.
i thought our standard measurement for size was the volkswagon beetle?
yes, get enough of these things, and buy a few remote controlled tanks as well. put them all in a sandbox and you can have your own mini gulf war :D
but of course you'll have to buy a few cans of oil to put under the sandbox, just for realism...
