the segway is good technology, not a good product. and it's not trying to fill any niche - it's trying to replace the car outright! you're correct, it is fighting a cultural battle against men and their big, gas-guzzling SUV's, but honestly, it doesn't have much firepower.

  12. Re:Coming from a 15 year old... on MS Youth-Culture App Gets Gushy Advance Reviews · · Score: 2, Interesting

they're 'in' only because the underground punk rock scene is experiencing a great revival. emo, hardcore, ska, old-school punk... lots of bands are getting more experimental and pushing the envelope when it comes to making music. the runoff is that people start thinking punk is cool, which makes the record companies want to cash in.

Avril Lavigne is a prime example. she gets paid to "act tough" whenever a reporter or photographer is in the area. in person she's reportedly a really sweet, nice girl. she's just a sellout, though. no self-respecting sensible teenager would really support her, as she goes against all the morals and ideals that the punk community has encouraged. i guess that's why the real punks hate her and the normal kids like her so much - she's a conformist, but a conformist who lets them tap into the image of punk and rock, without bothering them with the flak you get if you really are a punk.

if you want to have a taste of what's been going on 'behind the scenes', so to speak, try these bands:

    Coheed and Cambria
    The Used
    Thrice
    Killswitch Engage
    At The Drive-In
Camp Kill Yourself (you might recognize their music from the Jackass movie)
    Glassjaw
    Finch
    Mindless Self Indulgence
    Rufio
    RX Bandits
    Showoff
    Tsunami Bomb
    Youth Brigade

    enjoy.

if you're really good, you can steal increments of a cent from your company constantly, over the course of several years, and end up with more money than you'll ever actually make working for them; although most likely you'll mess up, and land yourself in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. ;)

  22. Re:I'm not too excited on Warcraft III Expansion · · Score: 2, Insightful

actually, since the Undead are the hardest race to play (their "cheese" tactics are pretty easy to counter), playing well with the Undead means that you generally play well with all the other races. I personally go for 3 heroes early in the game, all of them with direct-damage spells (Carrion Swarm, Death Coil, and Frost Nova). sure, i may be at a disadvantage with regards to units, but that's nothing a few well-placed spells and clever micromanaging can't solve. enemy heroes go down pretty quickly after they've been hit by three offensive spells.

the lynchpin of the whole operation is a high-level dread lord - carrion swarm and vampiric aura mean he can deal out damage to whole groups of enemies, and heal his own army without any mana cost. cool, eh? the death knight just sits back and keeps on casting death coil at any units that are damaged. i've taken out 3 armies at once with my "puny" army of 12 ghouls and 3 heroes. which just goes to show how deep Warcraft III's gameplay is - with enough practice, and dedication, even seemingly overwhelming odds can be surmounted.
