  1. But what about bandwidth caps? on Time Warner Recommends Internet For Some Shows · · Score: 4, Interesting

If Time Warner instructs people to watch the TV content over the Internet, and if that activity makes them go over their unpublicized bandwidth caps, aren't they just directing customers from one problem to another?

  2. iTunes DRM doesn't bother me. on Will People Really Boycott Apple Over DRM? · · Score: 1

My household uses Macs, an Airport Express, iPods and an iPhone.

The DRM on music doesn't bother me because, if a track isn't a DRM-free iTunes Plus track, I can simply burn an Audio CD (using a CD-RW) and rip the CD to MP3s. I'm not an audiophile, so any "loss" due to the conversion isn't something I notice. The day Apple announces a date for their iTunes authentication server to go down, I'll burn some CDs.

The DRM on videos doesn't bother us because we simply don't buy them. We simply rip our DVDs. We do rent videos from iTunes, but the DRM works in our favor because it removes the video files after viewing. The price for rentals is cheaper than what my TV provider is charging for PPV, so its fine with me.

  3. Advertised images of food are fake. on What The Banned iPhone Ad Should Really Look Like · · Score: 1

The advertised burger is Photoshopped... and likely not even a burger at all.

Many food pictures are done by advertising firms who use a model made of non-perishable, non-food materials like putty and plastic and then airbrushed to hell to look like food from the perspective of a camera lens.

They then take a chillion photos with various angles and lighting over several hours for the perfect shot.

You think any food (burger, ice cream, etc) would look mouth watering & fresh, with the cheese melted perfectly, etc. after sitting on a table for several hours being photographed?

  4. "home position" typing on Unix Dict/grep Solves Left-Side-of-Keyboard Puzzle · · Score: 1

So an article about typing words using only the "left handed" characters is a bit of a non sequitor to me.

  8. The rise of real mobile computing and tech support on Why Netbooks Will Soon Cost $99 · · Score: 1

I'm all about having a real web browser, email, maps, and such on the road with you. It's what made me get an iPhone after so many years of watching Windows Mobile devices do everything so crappy.

The only thing missing with the iPhone is a nice external keyboard to use when occasions arise on-the-go, where I might be at a table and have the ease of use of a keyboard for rapid typing.

Perhaps Netbooks will fill in this niche. Hell, throw in a few remote access clients and it could be a sysadmin's dream.

From a support perspective, I'd rather have a cell plan for data for a device of this type than just a cell phone that gets the somethings-on-fire call to you while you're in a restaurant or camping where there is a signal.

  10. On again, off again on Nintendo Already Anticipating Holiday Wii Shortages · · Score: 1

I own a Wii, and pretty much it just sits there unused unless a good game comes out that I'm interested in. For me that was Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart.

Most of the rest of the titles I see in stores are gimmick/exploitware games that aren't even worth $10, let alone $49.

Much of the WiiWare games seem like mediocre crap that look like ports of flash games -- I've only picked up Mega Man 9 from the crop for its retro appeal (though I think they went a little too heavy on the difficulty.. the older games were not this difficult).

The Virtual Console started off strong with big name releases and now it seems like we get weak releases more often than good ones.

In fact, i'll likely not even power on my Wii again unless Mega Man 3 comes out on the VC.

  11. Broadband bandwidth caps on Microsoft Announces Windows Azure, Cloud-Based OS · · Score: 1

Puts those new bandwidth caps down to a level that threatens even non-torrent-using Internet users.

  17. Verizon lost my business on iPhone Antitrust and Computer Fraud Claims Upheld · · Score: 0

I like Verizon's network (i.e. I seem to get a great signal everywhere I travel), but I hate their locked down phones.

I love the iPhone, but AT&T's network is less plentiful in my area, in fact, I work/travel in mostly an Edge-capable area it seems and rarely see 3G coverage.

In the end, I really wanted the iPhone for the batman belt of things it was replacing and ditched Verizon for the iPhone3G.

The bundling of iPhone & AT&T made me an AT&T customer. The moment I can use my iPhone (i.e. the same functions and everything) on Verizon's network, I'll leave AT&T in a heartbeat.

The Lite & original DS will be the "At-Home" DS where you can attach the menagerie of peripherals and such, and play with your huge library of DS and GBA games handy.
