Ok, absolutely shameless of me to post this here, but this site I maintain has Firefox at 64% (and IE at 31%). Nothing to do with Europe whatsoever. Sorry. http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/website_stats.php
Note: it's a total Windows power user app too. That partially explains it.
Did anyone read the actual poll response in question?
"Do you think the scientific theory of evolution is well-supported by evidence and widely accepted within the scientific community?"
48% = Well-supported 39% = Not well-supported
13% = Don't Know
>... diversity good. > Even it it's a 'non-evil' monoculture.
I agree with your first statement 100%. But how do you figure Apple is 'non-evil' monoculture? OS Marketshare is the only reason Apple isn't Microsoft.
The reason people are so interested in Dell, is that it would mean (hopefully) cheap, known-quality Linux machines, being sold right next to Windows ones. That's what I've been hoping to see in the US for years now. If people see Linux desktop (KDE, Gnome, etc.), that'll be a huge step in generating interest in the general public. It will validate it as a true option for many Joe publics.
I've been to a large electronics store in Beijing, China, and I saw Linux and Windows machines side by side. And that was back in 2002! I haven't been back since then so I don't know what you'll find there. I was so surprised by the number of computers for sale to the public with Linux installed (it was a mix of Red Flag and Red Hat at the time). It was approx. a 50-50 split between Linux options and Windows options.
. . but I just dont see why many of those are 'Must have'. I mean how often do I need to measure stuff? Not to mention that the Web Developer toolbar now has a ruler (under Misc.) that is a better implementation as it doesn't jerk when you move the measured area around.
I run the VirtuaWin site (http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/) which, since I began tracking web stats last Sept., shows Firefox visitors (by unique IP) at +60%. It's probably that high because it's a power user type app (virtual desktops for Windows), but it's still encouraging to see.
Just a random observation in the Science Investigators episode; about 2/3rds through the episode I see some desktop apps w/RedHat's blue curve theme. It could be Gnome but I'm not sure (as that theme has been 'ported' all over the place).
I don't know what other people look for in cars, but my priorities run something like this: Price (within my budget), runs well, safety, good mileage, maneuverability, bells and whistles, overall appearance. Bells and whistles aren't an edge until other priorities are met. As it is now, my next car will be another foreign model. My thoughts exactly; especially on the 'good mileage' (fuel efficiency) point. America is pretty much in last place (ref. Inconvenient Truth) in this category.
If someone wants to track my movements with a camera I say go ahead.... but only if I get to know who's watching me and I have the ability to watch them back Well put! I'd have to say I agree with that. Wow, that's actually a very fresh and intriguing position on this issue.
> But.... banning them instantly pisses off every single company that is barely putting out a hardware driver for Linux already (nvidia for example) A ban will not make these people go "oh,ok... we'll release the source code." they will simply flip off all Linux users and tell them to pound sand.
I would have no problem with that response, and I will continue using Linux and actually feel better about using it.
The binary NVidia driver for the last two releases of Ubuntu causes my system to freeze, so I uninstalled it. I think it's the only binary blob I had in my system. So I'm happily using the 'nv' driver, and, frankly, I don't miss all the NVdia "goodness".

I show FF users at ~63% for a website I maintain for a OSS/Windows power user app.

You nailed it.
Love live GIMP!

Ha! FF overtook IE 6 a long time ago according to this site. http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/website_stats.php
Oh, I should mention this site is for aa Windows power user app. But, hey, you gotta admit seeing FF at ~60% does give a nice warm 'n fuzzy, no?

Let us know who they are so we make sure to never, ever contract them.

39% not 48%. Zonk, you're fired.

There's usually some pretty excellent humor on Slashdot (with threshold at 5), but leave it to a fart joke to actually get me to laugh out loud.
Good work!
From TFA: "... this (VB run-time on Linux) was rewritten from scratch from Visual Basic by Mainsoft with some help from Microsoft."
So Microsoft actually provided consulting resources to Novell to make this happen.
Does this not worry anyone? What happens when I compile VB code on Linux via Mono on a non-Microsoft (i.e., non-Novell) supported GNU/Linux platform?
Your pixelated donkey icon needs to be redone.
Here's a new one I made for you (thanks to Wikipedia for having an svg version).

So where are the photos? It sounds like there were enough witnesses and viewing time that there should be some photos taken of this UAP.
The FAA is probably sitting on them.

Actually, we'll all suffer if that happens.

PFI_Optix, you were kind to even reply to that poster. I'm surprised he was modded so high in the first place with his high level of trollish content.
I'd mod his ass down if I had the mod points.
