Didn't the FCC promise telecos that they wouldnt have to share Fiber lines with competitors? Why do they need this too? They have incentive to get to FIOS-like services and drop DSL completely. If anything, having to share DSL lines with competitors made moving to fiber more appealing to the big telecos. Sounds like telecos trying to make money through government intervention instead of being creative and bringing new products to market.
Considering it only took one day for Windows Genuine Advantage to be hacked, it certainly wont take long for them to get around whatever got put in 2.00.
You're right, the Radeon 9200 does not have all the functions needed for Core Image and Core Video. I figured that with Tiger out, they'd have upgraded the video. But I suppose any re-engineering for a better video chip is out of the question since they're probably working on intel-based units.
Demand and the end of an underlying technology (GMR heads and parallel recording).
Not many consumers need 500GB of HD space in their computer for email and AOL. But 500GB would sure be useful in a Hi-Def PVR. But PVRs are still such a small segment compared to PCs.
Plus, tech wise, we're basically at the top of the S-Curve for the current HD technology. So we need to get the new technology and start the S-Curve all over again. We had a lot of advances when we went from 10GB HDs to 40 and 60GB HDs (one new larger capacity annoucement every quarter almost), but we've started to slow down and stagnate. I'm hoping things get going again soon and we make big advances from 1TB, 1.5TB. 2TB drives.
I put my cell phone and land lines on the do not call list. Even though its illegal for them to call on my cell, I still put it on there coz I dont trust those greedy bastards.
I agree. Some of the tab browser extensions from the first TBE (in the.7,.8 days) need to be incorporated in the trunk. I put that in on a feature request thread (again, in the.7,.8 days) and I got a stern message from Asa saying to download the extension.
It seems that RSS is just "push" technology souped up and much more elegant (and open) than any of the other implementations made in the mid/late 90s. I would expect that more top-down organizations like big corporations would adopt this technology.
I'm curious as to how it got past the QA team that 1.0.5 broke a bunch of extensions. Downloading say, the 10 most popular extensions and testing them is too dificult and time consuming?
Yea, it'll be a while before you see 1TB+ HDs (2008), however I would expect 600-750GB HDs throughout next year based on perpendicular recording. (For reference, Hitachi 500GB drives have just started to show up in the channel, and it is expected that other HD manufacturers will have 500GB drives out by the end of the year).

Hello Apple. After seeing my buddy's Dual G5 2.7s and hearing that the intel version of Macs are impressing developers with their speed, I think my next computer will be a Mac.
Another pet peeve of mine. Its not that they're required to switch to HDTV, its that they're required to switch to digital broadcasts, which dont necessarily have to be Hi-Def (720p/1080i/1080p).
at Ars was from the author of the article Jon "Hannibal" Stokes
"If Intel's volume discounts aren't the reason for the switch to x86, and this was purely about performance, then Apple would've gone with AMD's Opteron."
He is right (mostly). Apple went with Intel over AMD due to price/discounts, and probably also partly due to volume (the amount Apple needs is miniscule compared with the amount Intel makes, whereas with AMD, its still not sizable chunk, no greater than 10%, but about six times more when expresed as a percentage of total chips shipped.
It was no coincidence that petrolium prices at the pump went up massively about 3 weeks after he was elected the first time round, and haven't come back down ever since.
Not entirely accurate.. but yea, in the four years GW has been in office, the price of oil has doubled (and I see it at the pump - I remember paying about $1.25/gal before the Iraq war - now its near $2.50/gal). And it only helps GW and his family (their margins are about 10% - however 10% of a $50/barrel of oil is $5 while 10% of a $20/barrel of oil is $2 and consumption has only increased - about 1M barrels/yr since 2000 in spite of price increases - what would you pick???)
Between 1996 and 1998: Prices go from about $24/barrel to $10/barrel. January 1999 to September 2000: Prices go from $10/barrel to $30/barrel. September 2000 to September 2001: Prices stabalize around $25/barrel. After September 11th, 2001, prices fall sharply due to US Recession (down to about $18/barrel). January 2002 to Early 2003: oil prices surge due to impending Iraq war. From $18 to high $20s. Iraq war starts: Prices escalate on fear oil fields have been destroyed. Then shortly after, they find out the oil fields haven't been destroyed, prices partially retreate. Mid/Late 2003: Iraqi insurgents start attacking oil infrastructure, increases in demand from China pushes prices upwards towards $40/barrel. Summer 2004: Hurricane Ivan causes damage to oil drilling infrastructure in Gulf of Mexico, prices move up another $5-10/barrel. Summer 2005: Instability in Nicaragua causes oil prices to go up and hit $60/barrel.

No but it sure does a good job of emulating one without all the ick "subscribing" crap.

because they want to make sure the 2020 republican presidential candidate wont have his myspace profile to come back and bite him in the ass.
Oracle is another RDBMS where use of the word "user" is illegal.

2. What about those HDDs that were being developed where the bits were "standing on end"?
Coming out at the end of the year. In fact I thing Seagate has their momentus drives out very soon.

1. How many times have you watched graphic sexual content (pornagraphy, whatever) and wanted to have sex yourself during or after viewing it?
Sometimes, but that doesn't mean I go out and rape a girl. My activities after watching porn are prefectly legal.
2. Now how many times have you watched a gunfight and then wanted to go kill someone?
Not often. Like above, usually when I'm done my appetite for whatever has been satisfied.
however sex does carry with it certain responsibilities
::biggest_rolls_eyes_ever::
Yes, and beating the shit out of someone or shooting them several times in the chest has no long term reprocussions at all.
The *real* reason why sex is abhorred and violence is glorified is because we're a bunch of puritans in comparison to the rest of the world.
