If you are an American Republican, you will incur the wrath of your fellow party members unless you answer yes to both questions.
I think you're confusing the average Republican voter with the Republican members of Congress who are beaten into submission by the Party Whip.
It's just plain nonsense to believe that even a majority of Republican voters beat each other up when someone assumes that Rove, Satan, etc. are political opportunists. Most Republicans would probably admit that Rove, Bush etc. play politics. But of those who deny it, only a fraction would actually get angry if someone were to assert it. They might disagree, but most wouldn't go balistic.
The country probably isn't helped by inaccurately demonizing all members of a party you dislike.
Could it actually become any worse than it is? So far it seems like people are being killed just about as quickly as the killers can sort out who's a Shi'ite, Suni, or Kurd. The only way I could imagine it getting worse is if they stopped trying to sort out each other, which I doubt will happen.
If MS pulls out of China, the PRC will simply declare (or act as though) copyright and trademark don't apply to companies that pull out. So each time MS releases a patch or new OS or new version of Office, someone will crack it right away for Chinese consumption.
I don't really see how MS has much leverage here. MS could maybe have the U.S. govt. go to bat for them, but we're in such debt and military over-extension right now, and have so few friends around the world, that we're not in a particularly strong negotiating position vs. China.
No offense, and I am happy that you're working on this, but the games you're porting just don't at first blush look... fun. I'm not saying it's your fault; I'm sure publishers aren't tripping over themselves to get games onto the Linux market. But I'm just not interested in the games I see on your website.
I'd still seriously consider buying a port of Civ III (or even better, IV), one of the recent Heroes of Might and Magic, X-Com, etc. That is, games that are getting long in the tooth but that have tremendous replay value. If you can do a good port of one of those, PLEASE let me know - I'll be first in line to buy (er - I mean license) a copy.
I've wondered about this, ever since buying a Neuros mp3/ogg player, which theoretically could identify for you which song from the radio you were recording.
It seems like the most naive approaches would be far too brittle: a bit-by-bit comparison or an MD5 sum, for example, would be thrown off by just eliminating or adding one audio sample in the song.
Even something like spectral analysis would be subject to errors: unless the reference copy they kept of a spectral analysis was produced using exactly the same start- and end- sample in the recording, as was used when checking a newly submitted recording, even the spectra might mismatch.
So how do they do it without getting a ton of false positives and/or false negatives? (Or do they not even manage to avoid those errors?)
This has bothered me for a long time, because I've never heard a good answer. I mean, obviously not getting bombed is in our interest. But what about when our "interests" means things like, people won't give us oil that we "need" to keep our economy growing (when we won't consider alternatives like, I dunno, limiting our use)?
Why should anyone die to protect "US interests", when we have no reason whatsoever to believe that corporate profits and cheap goods at Walmart lie outside that category?
Just FYI, I'm running up-to-date Ubuntu Edgy Eft, and when I naively try to install IE7 using wine, I get an error dialog. It's title is, "Extraction Failed", and its text is, "Unable to find a volume for extraction. Please verify that you have proper permissions."
There could be a way to do this, I just figured I'd post an early result.
But could repressive governments use them to track down critics?
A clever repressive government could use a pair of pliers, 6 watermelon seeds, and a Tito Puente album to track down critics. In most cases we probably shouldn't judge a technology by its worst imaginable application. Especially when it's so easy to make your case against webbugs without bringing the Bush administration into the picture.;)
I realize that this isn't a "news for nerds" kind of comment, but since we're into bashing each other tonight regarding each others' reactions to the news: I just feel for the kids.
Think about it: two little (?) kids just had their world collapse. Their mother may be dead. Their father may be in prison. Aside from these two unimaginable losses, the kids probably also face the uncertainty of who will raise them at this point. They're scared, and can't turn to either parent for comfort perhaps for the first time in their short lives. IMHO the status of ReiserFS inclusion is completely insignificant compared to this issue.
The Bush administration disregards evidence contradicting their world view.
It would be more correct to say they hide evidence that discredits their public claims. Especially with regards to corporate interests, I have no reason to believe that the report contradicted their beliefs. It was just inconvenient to their goal enriching big businesses.
He starts racing through lectures and writes equations on the board faster than students can copy them, because "if they keep catch up, that can always buy the video."

Because, Mr. Colbert, sometimes voting machines have a conservative bias. :)

"Venezuelan Interest In U.S. Voting Software"
At least SOMEONE is interested in the potential misuse of software in U.S. voting!
This always confused me with the human genome project: For the most part, two different people will have somewhat different genes.
So when they sequence the human genome, how do they handle the variations? Does everyone in the project work from the same person's DNA?

Attleborro is basically next to Rhode Island. Clue to poster: there are parts of Massachusetts that don't lie within Boston.
Hey, it's only Fox New's fault if Republicans and Democrats entirely stop cross-breeding!
:p)
(You can't call it a troll if I don't say which one becomes the upper class
Well, I guess that's one way to keep people from working late...

The same thing that's wrong with me launching a Mk 48 ADCAP torpedo into a shipping channel in international waters, which also is owned by nobody.
This Christmas I cannot afford a 360 or a PS3. I can afford a wii.
So if I get a game system this Christmas, it's gonna be a wii. Perhaps many others are in my position?
Like thousands of D&D fans all soiling their pants at the same time, and then falling silent.
Get a life, people! It's just a TV show!
Hey... you! Yes, you. You don't even have a girlfriend, do you???
Holy crap, I just watched the Borat trailer http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/borat/ and I'm already talking like him!
I meant to say, "if they can't keep up, they can always watch the video."
