Why wasn't this determined during the test and acceptance phase for this product. Perhaps it's my cynical nature tempered by years of working for the government but this type of thing happens far too frequently.
If you have never worked in an environment where management changed policy consider yourself lucky or perhaps self employed. Once again, you as an employee don't control the work environment.
The amount of coverage McAfee has received on Slashdot and other "news" sources rivals the bloat his software adds to a system. Nothing to see here, move along.
As an aging Slashdot'er and parent of two kid$ recently completing the "goat rope" called US college education I concur. The payout vs payoff would not be a consideration in my retirement portfolio but is status quo for our kids. I don't claim to have a solution, I'm glad I'm out of the game.
I spend time in a secluded fishing community where baiting crab pots and eating the rewards are a part of daily life. Not that this is special but they way the crabs are dispatched was different to me. They were "backed" and cleaned before cooking. I've never been completely comfortable with dropping a living crab into a pot of boiling water but assumed death was quick. After seeing live backing I don't know. From a crab prep point of view it was far easier to do it while they were living. From a crab's perspective I have my doubts. Tasted good though which is the real issue. If continue to prey on other species we live with the consequences and science may not provide comfort.
Since Obama is commander in chief of the military shouldn't he be able to use the same technology (Blackberry) they use? If our national defense is entrusted to a product why would that not be good enough for the boss?
Not a new solution but effective in its day. Poses problems for todays dynamic content/programs but if identifying alien code is the goal programs such as tripwire are a step in the right direction.

GSM is a perfect solution when I travel outside the US. I carry an unlocked GSM phone and my first stop in country is for a SIM chips. To date I've used my GSM phone all over Europe as well as the Caribbean. I'm ready for Verizon to make the change to GSM.
Depends on what you mean by replacement. If you are talking about binary compatibility (ie, MAPI) then your choices are limited although non-free alternatives are out there. If you are talking about a product capable of servicing the needs of a business and not concerned with 100% MS Office compatibility then Linux does offer that. Not sure about Sharepoint portal alternatives.
Based on the amount of algae I see in the lakes where I live this could be useful. Assuming accelerated algae growth is caused by fertilizer runoff could this counteract some of the environmental damage we (collectively speaking) cause? If nothing else the polluters would feel they are contributing to the greater planetary good along with having a kick ass lawn.
When I took HS Chemistry a slide rule was required. The instructor spent a bit of time explaining how to use it and we were quizzed later. While it lacked the precession of modern calculators we managed to solve complex problems. My dad earned an engineering degree back in the 50's using only a slide rule.
Seriously, what is she really worried about? Is she questioning her job as a parent and worried the big, bad internet is going to so corrupt her son that all of the important life lessons she has imparted will be pushed aside?
To paraphrase an often heard comments about EMACS way back when, "EMACS isn't an editor, it's a lifestyle". Hopefully Firefox isn't headed down the same path.
Good might not help. The NSA just needs to deep search their archives.
Many production networks never see the cloud, or a least no connection to the Microsoft cloud.

I had to pee in a cup to get my first job. I didn't like it but I wanted the job.

Abandoning ship into 25 foot lifeboats to battle monster seas is bad for the crew and hard work for the Coast Guard tasked with their safety. The graveyard of the Atlantic is set to claim another prize. http://www.foxnews.com/weather/2012/10/29/coast-guard-monitoring-tall-ship-in-distress-off-north-carolina-with-17-aboard/

Depending on your perspective this was a breakthrough, perhaps financially, perhaps scientifically, perhaps ecologically, etc...

This seems to be keeping with previous Microsoft release schedules. It's an off by one problem, sort of like buffer overflows.
If the developers hail from a UNIX background there is no mystery. biff, awk, grep, sed. google and twitter seem tame by comparison.
If this scenario didn't occur on the TV show "24" it well could have. Life imitates art or vice versa?

I think the analogy being made here is they now suck less. That's not to say MS security is okay.
