    totally agree!

    i've been running mozilla on linux and (sigh...) winblows since version 0.6 or so. initially it was painful but even the earliest versions were compelling enough - cookie filters anyone? - to keep at it. now i've boobytrapped my website to send ie idiots (90% of my visitors - as can be easily determined by ie's failure to load one of my stylesheets) to mozilla.org for a real browser...

    i have an hp11c calculator that i was given in 1985 to calculate bitmasks for a midi driver. it's still running on its original batteries (although it rarely gets used these days). who'd ever have thought such an electronic gadget would last almost two decades and still be working perfectly?

    the singer in my old band couldn't hold a tune to save his life, but he had a great voice. unfortunately back then technology hadn't progressed enough that i could treat his warbling back into the correct key...

    i've never once downloaded a tune (nor anything else) from a so-called illegal filesharing system. years ago i checked out napster but was concerned about the security of their code and never tried running it. thus i'm not one of the "blackhats" the riaa is pursuing.

    so why am i so offended by their heavy-handed tactics? so much so that i'm instituting a block of their ip's on my webservers...

    Number portability means being able to keep the same number in the same location when you switch providers. It does not cover moving service to a different location.

    ah! but i tried to switch providers beforehand to enable att to move my phone. no dice. between themselves, rcn and att cannot provide number portability...

    the helpful service agents at both companies said i could switch back to pacbell and then switch again to att. and pay pacbell a $40 reconnection fee? my life!
