tested ie7 again. it still fails to format a page the way firefox, opera, or safari do. has no clue about centering. has no clue about lots of stuff. it *is* better than ie6. big deal...
the few unwanted calls were from people i'd previously done business with or charities. every "add me to your do-not-call list" request has been obeyed. i'm satisfied. now if only i could get a similar filter on the post...
this article links to an article that's claimed to diss the new "over-hyped" mac/ipod. but the linked article does nothing of the kind. apparently, being able to read and accurately summarize an article need not be a requirement for successful submission to slashdot. prats!
why does daylight savings exist at all other than to force us through an unwanted bit of jetlag twice a year? it's otherwise totally pointless given most people are on flexible schedules. the idiots in congress would do better to ban all hummers immediately and enforce petrol consumption standards if they really wanted to save oil...
after applying 10.3.8, the first attempt to load any site fails. it's like the resolver needs at least one stab before if finds the address. mind, my bad: i use mozilla 1.6.
my (ex)employer had me hire and train my replacement and without any offshoring being involved (although the replacement was an ex-brit). as they continue to implode, i'm still hoping the bankrupcy courts will eventually deal with them...

i've been running mozilla on linux and (sigh...) winblows since version 0.6 or so. initially it was painful but even the earliest versions were compelling enough - cookie filters anyone? - to keep at it. now i've boobytrapped my website to send ie idiots (90% of my visitors - as can be easily determined by ie's failure to load one of my stylesheets) to mozilla.org for a real browser...
microslop has offices in one market street in san francisco. in the lobby, there's a small booth set up offering a "free demo" of the tablet pc. so exciting! that'll help the hardware guy's margins, i'm sure.
i mutter, "get an ibook" everytime i pass the microslop droids. and i would, too, if i had the dosh...
i have an hp11c calculator that i was given in 1985 to calculate bitmasks for a midi driver. it's still running on its original batteries (although it rarely gets used these days). who'd ever have thought such an electronic gadget would last almost two decades and still be working perfectly?
Using it during a performance, however, is just cheesy. Learn to sing in tune, please.
the singer in my old band couldn't hold a tune to save his life, but he had a great voice. unfortunately back then technology hadn't progressed enough that i could treat his warbling back into the correct key...
i've never once downloaded a tune (nor anything else) from a so-called illegal filesharing system. years ago i checked out napster but was concerned about the security of their code and never tried running it. thus i'm not one of the "blackhats" the riaa is pursuing.
so why am i so offended by their heavy-handed tactics? so much so that i'm instituting a block of their ip's on my webservers...
one of the very cool features of mozilla 1.4 (and 1.3 i believe) is about:config. you can change all the settings as listed in skeme's posting interactively.
Number portability means being able to keep the same number in the same location when you switch providers. It does not cover moving service to a different location.
ah! but i tried to switch providers beforehand to enable att to move my phone. no dice. between themselves, rcn and att cannot provide number portability...
the helpful service agents at both companies said i could switch back to pacbell and then switch again to att. and pay pacbell a $40 reconnection fee? my life!

back in feb04, sylvain chomet ( les triplettes de belleville (2003)) contributed an interesting article to the times opinion page about the cartoon characters (definitely no longer free reading) that make the decisions at the mouse. it's not very complimentary.
