the person who i was replying to does not currently have health coverage. If he gets health coverage under any plan, it's likely that his take home pay will be affected, unless he has a generous employer (but if he had a generous employer, he'd already be covered).
If I was a stingly employer and the payroll taxes go up, I'd to reduce the amount i pay new employes and delay raises.
Government provided health care would likely be less expensive than privage health insurance. Of course, this would mean your take home pay would be affected, but for a lower cost, health coverage might be worth it.
For a lot of people without health insurance, a major accident/health related emergency ends up with them having either high medical debt or a bankruptcy, so I hope you're either financially prepared or lucky.
Alright, I'll agree that I should have been more clear in my initial post, and that some things aren't entertaining and social, unless i over rationalize. I could say that getting in a fistfight is totally social, since it tends to gather a crowd, but that would be a bunch of crap.:)
And when I troll on slashdot, the fun is in getting people, including moderators, to believe it's a legit post.:)
(this stream of comments isn't intended as a troll, but that was a convenient example:)
Huffing gas isn't something you should do very often due to potential danger, but i would assume it's entertaining for those who do it and it's definitely social, since most of the time you hear about people doing it in groups. And fistfights seem to be quite entertaining, or people wouldn't pay to see them. Mowing a lawn is a social thing too, it helps you get along with pesky neighbors and/or see them depending on the height of the lawn, and some do find it entertainin.
My point really was that everything that's entertaining and social should be done in moderation, so it's not really terribly descriptive. For example, trolling slashdot is something that's entertaining and social, but should only be done in moderation.
Yeah, it's a pretty accurate description of anything.

The only time you can go above the limit is when traffic is flowing smoothly, when traffic isn't flowing smoothly, you're stuck under the limit anyhow.
First of all, running under X11 makes it slower than running natively under linux.
Umm, you do know that Linux uses X11 too right? I guess you also know that the Mac OS X X11 implementation is largly based on the linux one, but has some compositing improvements which actually speed it up compared to linux.
My impression from brad of livejournal, is that on his mac, applications are zippier if run under linux than under os x. I think that's what the parent is refering to. When you run on linux, X11 is the lowest level windowing api. When you run on OS X, the X11 stuff gets translated to another windowing api before it goes to the hardware.
Mac users just aren't used to having menus show up in application windows.
I use linux daily at work, I still cannot stand this setup. It's just not usefull. I keep having to first find the graphic window under all my other apps, then all the toolbar windows. It's just stupid.
Your complaint is valid, but not against what you've quoted. The quote refers to putting menus in application windows, rather than at the top of the screen. Mac OS (by default) has one menu bar to rule them all at the top of the screen. When the current application changes, so does the menu bar at the top of the screen.
You're complaining about the Gimp's tons of windows.
Geez... in the good old days, other countries turned their citizens over to us for crimes commited abroad. Now what happens if Poland decides to start a war on cyber hax0ring?
You can buy a PS2 linux dev kit, you can get the Sega network boot disc (labeled phantasy star online) on the gamecube, or you can do that no modchip thing with the xbox.
Here's a description of the redundant raid controller I'm familiar with.
The compaq proliant 7000 (xeon) I've got came with a smart array 3100es, which does raid on the 3 hot swap scsi cages, and there's a special slot on the i/o board for a second 3100es, so that if one dies, i can just hotswap in a spare. (the two slots pci-x plus 3 channels of scsi that go to scsi cages, and a fourth scsi channel for controller to controller communication)
The Via C3 processor has encryption acceleration, which can be helpful, and you can get them in passively cooled configurations, which will help with reducing fan noise.
Depending on what his needs are, a Via processor might be a good choice.
The logo is there in search of trademark suits, not copyright, and was originally added to facilitate suits against bootlegers in some asian countries where copyright suits were not successful. However in the US, Sega v. Accolade was ruled in favor of Accolade, and gives precedent to it being ok to display unlicensed trademarked logos and untrue statements regarding licensing in order to get your game to boot.
I don't know about the status of bypassing the 'license enforcement' in other countries however.
Yeah, Sega added their licsened by Sega (etc) screen to the Genesis 2(maybe 3?) so they could get counterfitters in asia on trademark infringement since copyright infringement cases weren't going too well.
In Sega v. Accolade (or vice versa) in the US, it was ruled that displaying the text banner solely for the purpose of interoperability was ok. It might still be grounds for trademark infringement lawsuits in other countries though.
The implication of "However, due to the fact that the new Xeon is not an exact copy of the AMD64's microarchitecture, Intel has not broken the law." is that Intel is treading on dangerous legal ground, which is extremely far from the case.
If it was worded 'OMG Intel designs chip based on AMD specs, in accordance with licensing agreements, what a role reversal, blah blah', then you wouldn't have people pointing out that Intel can do that if it wants quite as much.
I haven't read the article (this is/.), but i would have expected they reverse engineered, or read the documentation for AMD64 to implement their x86-64 cause it's apparently very nearly the same ISA.
Intel and AMD have a broad patent cross licensing agreement, so it's not a big deal.
Are there any provisions to make the programs i 'install' with ROX accessible from the path... so after I installed gimp, i could start it from the command line, or the run application window (alt-f2 in gnome), etc... or do i have to keep launching it from the folder i DnDed
A harp would indeed be trouble, but a bass isn't that big of a deal. I've got a book recommending when you fly with a bass to get an extra seat for it, and stick it neck down in the seat next to you. As long as it's not a full bus, you wouldn't have much trouble.
It's probably easier than jamming it into a compact sedan.
Why not use suexec and install a copy webdav script in each user's cgi area?....
:)
If someone finds a flaw in your script, they can ownz0r all your users, but not have root

Well, I can also quibble about moderation too. :)

Actually, none of the affected ports for this attack are necessary.
Usefull public well known ports:
22 ssh
25 smtp
80 http
110 pop3
123 ntp
220 imap
443 https

Atlantis finds you, and auctions you on eBay.
Ever see people driving down the street with their radio so loud their car buzzes. They're pretty cool right?
On windows,
putty, gaim, mozilla
On linux,
aptitude, ssh, joe, gnome, gaim, epihpany-browser

more isn't better?
at least it looks like bigger is still better, the sensors the author likes are physically larger.
You could require a password for getting into the edit portion of the BIOS, or to alter the command line on the boot loader.
:)
(cause linux init=/bin/bash is tons of fun, but not something you want someone else to do

I personally found secondary.org didn't pick up my dns records terribly well. I found twisted4life.com did a much better job.
twisted4life offers secondary dns for 10 domains free, and lets you pay for more.
