Value added content helped sell LP's as opposed to what? Singles? I think the extra songs help, yeah. As opposed to home taping of your friend's records? I really think the fact that BASF's casette format was a self-destructing medium with an unreliable lifespan was the biggest problem there. At least, that's my take on what I remember in high school. I'd tape albums off of whoever, and if I liked it I would own the LP by the time the dropouts on the tape were too much to bear. Then I'd tape another copy off myself, for the car. The LP's didn't cost so damn much back then, anyway. You "knew" tapes were cheaper than LP's because they were smaller, but CD's are in between in size and cost twice as much. Grr. I will buy them without hesitation if I am buying them directly from a band, but other than that I will wait for these MP3's to wear out;)
I would jump at the chance to buy high-quality-source MP3's of LIVE performances of my favorite bands. (Except like, Electric Wizard, who sound better in the studio...) Like the Butthole Surfers, who let you download -- for free -- MP3's of bootlegs of themselves they have come across. I would pay to download more of those.
Unfortunately, they will also have a Win2K boot option
gosh, it looked like there was going to be information in your post, but after injection of useless opinion, I just can't finish it.
Well first it was the ugly and unnatural "parrotfish" crossbreed, then it was dye-injecting in the "painted glassfish", now it is the glowy gene. To me, fishkeeping is about keepiong and enjoying exotic natural species. These loud mufflers and flashy fuzzy dice are going to bring a whole new crowd in my pet shop. WTF is next, "The Fast and the Furriest"?
1) Production of previously unknown toxins
It's not like developing an antitoxin is equivelent to putting a man on Mars.
Go read about prions, your average every day brain protien, that folds a different way and becomes an unkillable destructive force causing e.g. BSE.
If I live the rest of my life and never hear the name of SCO again, that will be fine by me.
I have felt this way since the first time I installed SunOS -- I felt I had finally been called up to the major leagues, with professional equipment available at last.
Damn, I thought Crowther & Woods were going to get their comeuppance. I was looking forward to seeing the rod scare the bird in 3D... Stupid reality! Why must you mock me!?!
thanks, that answered my samurai X/ Kenshin confusion.
I am a guy who watches any anime he can, and when I see something for the first time it doesnt matter too much if it is subbed or dubbed.
It strikes me that all of these 'stages of fandom' involve other people, their opinions, and fanboy's opinions of their opinions. I really don't have that much conscious use for other people and their opinions! watching TV is something I can do by myself, thanks. Just sit back and enjoy the show.
Your opinion of my opinion is twice-removed from a fact, and therefore less than useless!:P
Anyone else read "Big Secrets"? There was a book I loved when I was in elementary school. I have high hopes for the entertainment value of this book based on his authorship.
What else do you wonder about, I wonder?
Why not just *DO* something and quit wasting time wondering? Every time we read a 'headline' about something cool or weird someone has done, several nobodies have to post "WHY?!?!"
My XBox was free, received as a 'gimme' when I had my employer sign me up for a course on network routers. Why NOT put Linux on it? You know, I just got a new laptop, and I have come to the realization that I actually get more enjoyment out of INSTALLING and CONFIGURING Linux than actually using it. If installing Linux is my hobby, WTF are you going to ask me *WHY* for?
Because it gets me [H]ard, OK?:P
OBgrammarbitching about the headline: "do to" instead of "due to" is a big pet peeve of mine.
I've posted about this before, as an example of proior art to Apple's patent on having computers change their colors. Go to SHINZA.COM and get the Elecom Grast24 mouse ~$US50. It is a USB mouse that has a 3-color LED inside. The color can be set to change randomly, like those glowy pens on the market now, or it can be set to any specific color. [I used to be positive this was software controlled, but the web page has changed and now I'm not sure.]
>>1. Ok, well, yeah, but the drives cost more than 1U dual PIII servers.
>That's right, and a Mercedes costs more than a Fiat.
Poor example: You should say a _Ferrari_ costs more than a Fiat. Because deep inside, the label is the same.
Please tell me the difference between the Seagate HDD that Sun sells and the Seagate HDD of identical model number everyone else sells? I know those hotswap rails are nice, but they're not made of precious metals and rare earths.
Don't get me wrong, I think Sun makes seriously nice hardware, yes; but sometimes I feel a little cheated.
How about making a WinXP box like that?
Get one of those Shuttle SV25s, a VIA processor, ATI TV Wonder, and install WinXP.
Much easier than installing video for Linux.
Whoops; been there, done that!
So many posters claim all you need is a used PC and a tv-out card. Either you've glossed over the video-in requirement, or you are not aware that real-time divx encoding takes quite a lot of CPU. Even mpeg2 is still difficult. Anything less compressed, and you will need a prohibitively large disk to be able to hold enough. There are logical reasons for MS to require a hardware MPEG-2 encoder for XP Media Center, as it is more than just a matter of setting a high priority to the encoding process.
Hate to say it, but I've found most of my new music by downloading semi-randomly from genre-related usenet newsgroups e.g. alt.binaries.punk or alt.binaries.mp3.heavy-metal. Download and delete, download and delete, eventually you find a group that you've just got to go buy every CD they've ever made.
Sort of like when I was in high school and traded tapes with people.

I actually tried to submit this, once. I located it on a websurf initiated by a slashdot link to animenewsnetwork, back in October. I rediscovered the link in animenewsnetwork's archive, they link to the anime-artist desgined mice sold at Shinza.com but something else had caught my eye.
The Elecom Grast24 "Optical 24-color USB mouse". Translucent mouse uses internal LED's to change color of the mouse. Software controlled -- user selectable color. "Illumination mode cycles through all 24 colors when mouse is idle."
Shinza.com.
This is the same thing Apple is talking about, no?
...in fist-sized nodules known as "Ds Nuts".
Specifically, cutting a hole in the wall between living room and family room to install 200 gallon freshwater.
My wife thinks it's a great idea.
Mt Rushmore is in the area, too, and you could probably get the hoover damn without too much effort.

was Crue Ball, the Motley Crue pinball game for Sega Genesis. That was a rockin' cool pinball game. I still play it, only on the xbox.
they can hoist a giant sail from the center of the isle and commence to steer! Let's park it in the Mediterranean for a while! :-D
j/k, of course...
geek-hacker psych0delic [sic]. words like a paintbrush, man.
No one can forget the compu-termites.
RUN ADVENT.EXE
Damn, I thought Crowther & Woods were going to get their comeuppance. I was looking forward to seeing the rod scare the bird in 3D... Stupid reality! Why must you mock me!?!
A hollow voice cries, "Plugh!"
thanks, that answered my samurai X/ Kenshin confusion.

My first thought was Gang of Four: "Armalite Rifle".

jkrise's post "Interesting"? try "offtopic".
:P
Critics will always question why, won't they?
