This is true. What they were referring to is the fact that a cache makes a copy of copyrighted content and then redistributes it without the permission of the author. So what exception to copyright law makes that illegal?
I've heard this, too. And in all my,...erm... research (yeah, that's it!) I have yet to find a porn site that works this way. An interesting idea, but I think this is turning into an Internet urban legend...

See, I stopped going to Best Buy because around here, they follow you around and harass you constantly.
Maybe it's because I'm a 20 year old, and they think I'm stealing or something, but I got sick of being asked repeatedly if I needed anything every 10 minutes. By the same salespeople.
Don't even get me started about the bag check at the door...
Think of them like a service rather than a good. Yes, you can run OSX on anything you want for free, OR you can buy a small amount of tech support for generic hardware that may or may not be able to help you, OR they'll give you a full layout with certain hardware that's 100% backed and supported out the ass and such.
I love Bungie. I'm the proud owner of a Mac Action Pack, and it is excellent.
However, you know what game we've been playing around here in my dorm? Doom II.
We've all re-installed this gem and are blasting each other away in deathmatch. I've been playing lots of single player too, and even today, the game still stands out. I'm only 20, so I wasn't allowed to play it when it came out, but damn, Doom is just as good as I heard it was.
I've stopped playing video games on consoles. Yeah, Halo was like Marathon, but better graphics...but it seems that Bungie games have lost some of their luster since the Pathways Into Darkness / Marathon Trilogy days. Games aren't as fun any more, and they're too focused on graphics over gameplay and level design. I use my deluxe edition of Doom III on XBox more to play the old Dooms than the third, which I still haven't beaten. I stopped caring about beating it about halfway through.
I'm running XP on a P3 766 with 512 megs of RAM right now, and it's not bad at all.
Even with less RAM (a friend just gave me a 512 stick, that's all the mobo can handle) it wasn't terrible.
I remember the one time I almost thought that I fell for a phishing scam.
I got an email saying that my student loan company needed some more information to give me the loan. I had to log into thier website to check out what exactly it was and what I needed to send in.
I just clicked the link in the email and typed my login information (of which the username is my SSN) and got a message to the effect of 'password incorrect, please try again.'
I did this two or three times with some of the different passwords that I usually use...and then I thought about it.
Oh fuck! The address bar said 'www.terri.org' and my bank was Chase. I freaked out, thinking that I'd fallen for it...
Turns out terri is the company that processes the loan or whatever and I had just mistyped the password. But I reminded myself to not be so trusting on the internet, and always re-type the site in for things like that...
Beyond that, remember when Tiger came out and everyone was talking smack on its feature set because "Longhorn will have that and more in less than a year?"
Like fucking Pearl Harbor. I remember thinking, 'Oh sweet, war movie about Pearl Harbor!' after seeing the previews, but got some shitty love story instead.
Car dealerships are more like banks than like retailers. Ford Motor Credit makes all of the money nowadays. Not selling a new car isn't that big of a deal for the car, it's the lease that makes them their money.
Maybe it's just me, but I see no difficulty with C++, and all with Java.
I think that it's much better to teach functional programming first, because that's exactly how the computer handles it. It's also a little easier to wrap your head around. "There's this list of instructions. The computer does each instruction in order."
With Java, you either have to teach OOP concepts or say 'We'll just ignore that for now, it's black magic' before you can even get to 'Hello World'.
Quite anecdotal, but it doesn't seem that the hype has died around here.
I have only one wish, and that's that the Java hyper-enthusiasts would depart from my university's staff. The amount of Java classes here is ridiculous.
I had a friend who got suspended from my old high school because of comments he made on his web site.
Granted, he was trying to critisize the President, and didn't type with very good grammar and spelling. I didn't see exactly what he wrote, but his 'I couldn't care less if the President would die right now,' was taken as a threat, and he actually got investigated by the FBI...under house arrest for months, endless legal trouble...
Because none of those things should require a reboot. Ideally, one should never have to shut off their computer for anything, and any modifications could be done on the fly.
Yes, I realize it's near impossible...but that's the idea.

I can't really feel sorry for these people. In my book, if you're dumb enough to run some strange executable, then you deserve what you get.

I'll second that Bungie comment.

Some people would find that porn actually makes them want to have sex with thier SO more.
All generalizations are false.

I hate that movie.
Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus was a good follow up to that book. I have both on my shelf right here.

If by 'donating to charities' you mean 'giving kids Windows computers to get them hooked for life,' you have a point.
'Funny' doesn't give Karma. 'Informative' does. Besides, he informed us of his method to keep his computers in line....just kidding!
Apple has said that they will do nothing to prevent people from installing Windows on the x86 Macs. Sorry, I don't have a link...

He probably just used significant digits...there's one significant digit in 8.9... 8.
God I hated that in high school physics...
But mine shoots farther.
