    Oh, they understand you well enough. When someone creates language to specifically stop you from doing what you want, it isn't an accident and it does not demonstrate lack of understanding. Just the opposite.

    No, you've got it exactly backwards. Ergonomics problems happen when you use your hands and wrists for things they weren't made to do, like type at awkward angles on a keyboard.

    Gripping onto a stick is exactly what your hand is made for.

    It's a subtle idea, I understand, but software doesn't emulate an interface, it impliments an interface. As long as we're quoting Wikipedia, please see the Compatibility Layer entry, which specifically mentions WINE and is a more correct explanation of what WINE is.

    I know it's hard to believe that answers.com is not up on the subtleties of modern computer science terms, but believe it or not, they're just trying to convey the general idea to a layman. Your parent poster is completely right and arguing an accepeted definition makes you look like a moron.

    Implimenting libraries is not emulation and WINE is certainly not an emulator.

    At work I exchange a lot of email with people from a major electronics company in Japan, and every email starts with "David-san," and continues in English.

    They do it for everyone. We see things like "Could you please send the update to Masato-san," all the time.

    I think you're confusing C with a high-level language. It doesn't give you lists, associative arrays, or strings because those are high-level data types and C is a low-level language. Your complaints are like saying the biggest problem with a car is you can't drive it on water -- they display a fundamental misunderstanding of the subject.

    You got modded informative for giving an unjustified opinion?

    Both books are incredible. I don't agree that Speaker is "by far the best," but I understand that this is the internet and people will have different opinions than me. Reading Ender's Game by itself is absolutely no waste. It's one of the standards of modern scifi and to dismiss it as "not bad," is pure pointless elitism.

    My guess would be that it's not a resolution/speed issue, but a resolution/framerate thing. Having faster pixels doesn't mean you can have a higher res, but it does mean you can have a higher res at the same framerate as a lower one.

    Message boards and AIM are grammar death. I was sitting next to a 40 year old business man on a flight a couple weeks ago who was componsing email on a laptop. "Cindy, can u pls send this to Mark?? thx"

    The signature appended to every message said his name, company, and job title: "CEO."
