>Remember, Hollywood movies can cost from $10,000,000 to $100,000,000 to shoot and produce so compared to that it is nothing.
And remember that equating cost of a movies doesn't equal how good a movie is. They'd be better off using unknown artists every time and have creative writers to write a good story line instead of spending 300mil on special effects to wow the sheeople.
having a geocities/or web page with links to your fiends pages which then contain links to other friends pages be the same thing? What about a webring?
Is that why so many high school girls thse days look like they got stabbed by two cruise missiles in the back compared to high school girls 20+ years ago?
And each download is money spend in another industry so yah the game industry looses but someone else gets that money so not like its magically vaporized out of the market.
> Speeding is against the law and kills hundreds of people
Actually cars don't drive them selves yet, so the cause of the accident is the person behind the wheel. Going fast enough will obviously kill you if you hit something hard enough but still doesn't change that fact the people are the ones who cause accidents.
Why would they even wanna go to court when they could just buy out all of the record companies and then own the copyrights to all the music and then just close down shop. Didn't the lawyers think of this?
for day to day usage was just way simpler then Vista/7. No fancy graphics just plain old start button and control panel. Even easier would have been a separate button for Programs instead of Start > Programs > Your App. I don't get why the Desktop has to look fancy but thats just me.
Well until I read Slashdot few minutes ago I never knew Las Vegas Review-Journal existed or probably would even have know it existed but I know of NORMAL. Since I didn't know they existed how would they have lost any money from me not reading their site, and they probably would have got me as a reader if I saw the article on NORML and followed the source link which I always do and a lot of times become a regular as long as they have creative and quality articles..
And I pay $44.99 forcable my connection with SHAW and get 60Gigs of traffic while iWeb sells a dedicated server for $49.99 with 1500gigsof traffic. http://iweb.com/promotion Yah thats perspective which is funny as the traffic cap was WAAAy higher even 5 years ago.
The people who see the movie on the big screen. Those that downloaded it either would not have paid to see it in the first place or they already saw it on the big screen and just wanted to see it again at home but would never bought the dvd as they already saw the move on the big screen.
By the way I buy 99% of my dvd's at the pawn shop for 4 for $9.99. Damn I should be ashamed for letting those movie people starve to death by not supporting them by shelling out $24.99 for the move at a store.
>What they will be doing is cutting off service to people who they are told, by a third party firm, are sharing copyrighted music.
Well all music is copyrighted including CC licensed music. I have 10 GIGS of CC only music on my computer, are they gonna go after someone who is sharing CC copyrighted music?
if I left my car doors unlocked (there is no law that says I have to do that) and someone used it to steal bunch of music cd from a retail store I be charged with copyright theft?
Agreed, if those 100's of people listed as your friends even gave a slight fuck about you, except for having yet another friend in their profile they would have used other forms of communication to keep in contact with you. Same goes for you, I bet 95% of people in your friends list you'll never even talk to in real life and there's probably good reason why you never tried to keep in contact with them before.
after debating whether I should go legal and pay SOCAN the licensing fees for restarting my non commercial shoutcast station I decided to switch to all Creative Commons licensed music. Its taken a while to download enough quality music and listen through it and weed out the "experimental" stuff. I've also had to change my music format but in doing so I also discovered other genres that I never bothered looking at. So far its been a win win situation and I've already donated some money to a netlabel, except for my wife rolling her eye at my yet another "hobby" which involves computers.
We need to start a movement and get people around the world to boycott new movie release. Get it organized and when a "Big" summer action flick comes out boycott it. Hit them where it hurts, their pockets and crappy $100mil movies. But most people wouldn't dare to do it and miss out on the stimulation the movie would give them so it a stupid idea. I'll just go back and crawl under a rock.
developer resources are now?

Well the way its going in Canada, Hollywood is already entrenched in out gov pockets even though the majority of Canadian voters don't want the new DMCA. http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/5079/125/ http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/5017/125/ and many more http://www.michaelgeist.ca/index.php
Best one line response I've read on /. in a long time. Someone please make a video with this line in it and post it on youtube or something.

I've asked that question tons of times but no one answers it. If Chevy had no money for lawyers I'm sure they would get sued too.
And you can't discount that the money people saved on the pirated software went to another industry.
Won't the Ferengi attack the satellites to steal the gold-pressed latinum?

still looking for a niche market?
