    What you're referring to are called "dram shop laws". They do not prohibit serving someone who is likely to drive home. They prohibit (or establish liability from) serving someone who is intoxicated. And these laws exist because the general principle is that enabling a crime via a legal transaction is not a crime and does not establish liability.

    You're probably talking about sometime in the 60s.. one of these pollution events was referenced in an episode of Mad Men, and they were one of the big drivers for the early Clean Air Acts.

    You're talking about the traction control. That is a slightly different system from the stability control (VSC). Regardless, the reason it is so twitchy in the Prius is assumed to be protection of the electric motors.

    The Court in no way said that a state law takes precedence over the 5th, they ruled the 5th was satisfied. Probably best to read the decision yourself rather than rely on some random slashdotters interpretation.

    Why not just use the arrow keys? That way, the up and down are properly aligned and you can never accidentally shift to the left or right. Then use the insert/delete/home/etc. block of keys for reload, crouch, etc. You can also use parts of the numpad (sometimes) and the keys on the right of the main keyboard area.

    It is an old system based on the cold war, not really relevant today but it has stuck around. 1st world: US/UK/Western Europe, 2nd world: USSR/China/Eastern Europe, 3rd world: everyone else. Since a lot of the 'everyone else' was lesser developed countries, the term 'third world' has come to represent that status.

    A modern coal plant will still emit a lot of pollutants. For example, the latest NOx standard is 0.76 lb/MWh. Sounds small, but your average plant is 600-700 MWh, so you're talking ~500 lb/hr. For sulfur it's 1.2 lb/MWh so you're talking ~800 lb/hr.

    Sure, it's less than the old plants (the thing about oil plants is a strawman since no one has built or modified an oil plant in decades, per EPA records). But "almost no".. not really.

    'Single-mode operation' was what the Volt was originally supposed to be, until they realized that it just doesn't work in reality.

    The 4-wheel electric motor design, iirc, has issues with suspension/unsprung weight.

    I believe all of the things available on the QAT are also on the ribbon. You can also choose to 'show below the ribbon'.

    There's always going to be some hurdle when you're trying to do something new. Instead of trying to figure out icons, just use the help file (really, it's that simple).

    Under such a system I don't think it would be much different in reality. The explanation could simply be a false front.. either way you have to trust the developer or not use the app.

    Around here they play hymns using the bells and also use them for calls to service (basically the same function as a minaret). A brief review of random internet sources leads me to believe that churches in Switzerland do the same.
