Well the Dell PC my brother-in-law bought did not just ask for 3 inputs. The amount of prompts, warnings, yes no ok cancel continues that are needed is way overboard.
What rules should I give him so yes to EULAs no to strongly worded warnings except strongly worded warnings concerning unsigned drives those are ok. Say no to AOL, stuff, Service Pack 2 combinded with Norton Internet Security stops Office from updating out of the box on a Dell system that is bought with Office Installed, the list goes on and on and on...
I am a windows programmer and user but it is just insane what goes on when you pull a Dell home system out of the box.
Guess I should have built him a rig or bought from Alienware...
Well let us say (hypothetical numbers to explain the point) that it cost Time Warner $43B to get sales of $42B and let us say that it cost Google $1B to get sales of $3.2B. Then Time Warner losing money and have the burn through cash the will need to borrow money and then when they can't borrow money anymore they will cut costs and/or go out of business. Google however would be getting $2.2B extra cash which it could use for other project or send to the share holders as a dividend. So it is critical to look not just at sales but at the amount of money it cost to get those sales.
Well with the Internet you could publish you work many years before you even have a marketing or PR person couldn't you? Also I wonder if corporations would not game the copyrights expiration. Still the current infinity system is questionable or at a minimum derivative works should be given more lattitude and legal protection.
How is a VOIP phone through a WiFi hotspot superior to my GSM cell phone? I don't think that it will be superior at first, but it may be cheaper, a lot cheaper, maybe $4.99 extra a month, maybe free with vonage service. If so that will get people's attention. I have vonage it is great, but I like have my cell phone as a backup, if I had cheap bastard syndrom I could see getting the Vonage/WiFi as my only phone. I don't have CBS so having a cell phone makes a lot of sense to me.
Some crap APS.NET forums make you use IE before you can post, that is all I have seen maybe I just need to update to FireFox from Mozilla or update Mozilla. Which brings up another point I like Mozilla better than Firefox, has Moz development keeping pace with FireFox?
I don't know how accurate all of the info in this PDF is, but is seems interesting and informative. It is written in a very readable style and gives you some background on the history of some tech inovation. Not bad, use an email already flodded with junk we all have those...
I hope the ClearPlay exception is a wedge that get people thinking about who should be in control of what is viewed not just by children but by adults. Why should I be forced after purchasing anything to view parts of it I don't want, this would include preview, adds, FBI warnings, anything. Look I bought it now leave me alone. If I want to copy it to my computer hard drive and store the original in a safe place, let me do it and leave me only. I bought it, I didn't rent it I bought it.
Does this mean that there should not be a free alternative to improving the situation? The base for Tiger is BSD right and that is free of GPL entaglements right?
One of the things I like about Google news is they don't draw a line between AP/NYT/ and other online content like slashdot or inquirer.net don't see how this would effect them at all.
the drivers simply let that hardware operate Huh, there is no software development or IP involved with driver? More likely they don't have the programs that nVidia and ATI have and would like some open source chaps to fill the gap. Still as a learning tool and being able to play with Video card driver code it should be of interest.
What a non-story. SLI is very cool tech, and if you get an early build of just about anything you are going to be updating the BIOS, heck I bought an Intel 865 motherboard and it was shipped with a Rev. 12 BIOS had to update it to Rev. 19 or 20 just to get it to work with the RAM I had. Sounds like ATYT FUD to me (not that NVDA doesn't FUD also)...
It not so much the money as the special rights given to the media over the people, the only way I can have the same access as the media has is to buy advertising or to creat a popular blog, but now option 2 might get regulated, big problem.
Campaign finance laws violate free speech and always have, maybe now the bloggers and other Internet dwellers will realizes this. The only way out is if we are all declared (by a judge the ultimate power in the universe) media when we publish a web site.

Insightful, sales but no mention of earnings, insightful.

What if it takes longer than 10-20 years to even have your creation become popular?
Microsoft will instead move to being a premier software provider for another platform
You mean like game consoles or something like that...

Dude Empire Strikes Back was the best of the original Trilogy. Now who directed that again?
In principal the above comment is accurate and should be modded up.

Nothing say fun like the history of online advertising over the last decade.

1. Buy an AMD processor. 2. Buy an NForce motherboard.
