I would use this money to make an original SciFi series released for free on the web and use a sort of creative commons license that would allow contributors to make derivative works or copy and sale or give away DVDs of the episodes...
They only thing I avoid is pow for finding a simple square of a number, better just to use x*x. Other than that write the code so you can read it 6 months from now and know what you meant.
It is a shame that more people don't buy direct from the developer, then there is not a bad publisher in the equation and the developers get more of the $$$ to create even better quality products.
What is this Dvorak smoking? Is his article old, because I see Groups on the start page of Google and I logged in and used it yesterday to find some code on making Windows Z-Order behave and making transparent windows without the Platform SDK installed. His other complaint that Groups is in Beta is bogus too, when you consider that a Google Beta is more like a released product from other companies, hell it is better then most companies version 2.0 of a product. Then there is the whole Google is company so they are going to make stuff suck, doesn't he get it the whole Google biz model is based around not sucking (being evil, etc.). Of couse some of my complaints are invalid if Google responded to Dvorak column by focusing on groups again, hard to tell without dates on stuff like his column or in the/. post...
In a way yes, if only 10% of your customers were ripping and sharing music it wouldn't be as big a problem, but 80% or 90%. Also what is the deal with ripping being mixed in with "sharing", how in the world can ripping be illegal, I am the only one using the music, so what if I want to play it on my PC instead of through my home theater? This is the kind of freedom erosion that could be fought against if it was target specifically.
I don't think this is true. I actually save money by playing a MMORPG. I am currently playing World or Warcraft and before that City of Heroes. I pay 15 or so dollars a month, but I don't buy any other games while I am doing this. Before I started playing MMORPG I would by a new game for at least $29.95 or higher each month and would generally buy 1 or 2 DVDs more each month than I currently buy. It is not just consoles and piracy (arggh!) that have taken a bite out of computer game sales, it is MMORPG as well. For me they are a money saver...
Software Engineer, you get more than just a coder, you get IQ, you get somebody who understands the low and high level testing that needs to be done, you get somebody who can help you ask the right questions, you get somebody who can make sure the code compiles, that makes sure you get the code, that can rewrite or the crap code you already have, somebody that can save your ass, that is why we cost so much...
Republic of California is doing this? I thought Bush was a corporate tool? I guess they all are it is just that the corporations are different. Of course browers, FTP, email all could fall under this category and it is a stupid bill. Look to the NRA with their guns don't kill people, people do for a way out of this. Software doesn't infring on copyrights people do...
is a blast, but so is City of Heros which is a NC Soft game. We know that on the service/sever sice NC Soft has their act together. This could be an interesting game, it seems like the going of into the frontier to make your game dream is still alive.
Disney has a Mickey Christmas DVD out now that uses CG for all of the Disney characters is this the first CG DVD for Disney? Is this why the let go of that one animation studio? I don't think they can do big screen CG to compete with Pixar but they can make a bundle on straight to DVD market. Look it all of the great new CG talent out there...
I have to defend this Cmdr Taco here, I think CBS may have asked this guy to write a story, that they didn't want a journo currently working for them to write...
I agree, except how many politics posts are there today, we have Halo 2 coming out, PCI Express on the way, an iPod with pictures, ultra-portable PCs for sale or on the way (0Q0 and Flipstart), a new release of Fedora, etc.
Stuff for Lawyers? Whatever I was hoping for getting back to technology and geeks stuff ya know... Guess I have to keep my freedom sig for a little while longer...
"Dell recommends Windows XP Professional" or "Tested with Centrino" or "Intel Inside" all are little jingos that if you put them on your page you get marketing money from MSFT and INTC, I believe. Anybody confirm this?
I can't believe that 1 out of 5 CDs are sold in Walmarts != and full of people. Look I am with you on Wal-Mart do not like shopping there, but I didn't like AOL either but the signed up a ton of people and the stock went up over 1000% in the 90's.
Well I set up a Intel Raid drive setup under XP Pro and have suffered several blue screens of death. Another issue I am having is XPs DVD-RAM driver won't recognize some FAT32 disks that were formated under 2000, this happens at random some disk work others don't, never had this problem under 2000. So far from perfect...

When you can buy direct from the developer!
What about the people, it is nice that you have free local governments but what about the people isn't that what this story is partly about...
Err I didn't realize Biology was only stem cell research, learn something new everyday...

I always thought Terminator would happen first but now Robocop has a chance! Planet of the Apes still a long way off...
Better than Elton John IMHO. Fable is a great game. Black and White should have been but it had giant cows and that was one of the highlights...

Who in the hell modded this off-topic, clearly Snoop hosted the VGA and this defends the choice of the host and the large dose of hip-hop, get real...
I think Halo 2 had a bigger opening weekend then any album or movie ever.
