Well, I've resorted to just accepting a cluttered mess of wires that trips people and animals up. I think you've found that solution as well so we're pretty much on the same page.

You could go out and buy yourself wireless controllers. Other than those wires, the power and A/V plugs should be able to be routed through the back of any reasonable entertainment center furniture.

Spoken like someone who doesn't know all the facts but has a position already set... XBox games are routinely patched. With the addition of the PS2 hard drive in the market, subsequent PS2 games are going to be patched AND obviously the PS3 will have a hard drive. [By the way, Madden 2004 already requires downloaded content updates before you may play online.]

Let's see, what other FUD are you spreading? "Consoles will draw away the fuckwits?" Why? You give no valid reason why this statement is true. 90% of the population is of limited intellect, based on my experiences. Without giving a reason for your above statement, I might guess that you're not in the 10%. And not only do you not offer a reason why the "fuckwits" are being drawn to the console games, you actually refute it in the next two sentences. That's a hell of a way to make an argument son.

In short, it seems odd that anyone would take such a stance as you have. I enjoy playing online games for both the PS2 and for my PC.

As for the content thing - you offer no numbers to back up your claim. I would guess that the majority of people playing multiplayer online games are playing either original games [with only patches from the company being used] or professionally released mods - a la Counterstrike. You have no numbers to back up your belief that modded games are where everyone plays so, yet again, your point is not made. Better luck next time.

Oh my god, there are kids who have watched the movie and don't know about the books! Oh no! That's so awful! Maybe you should assault them - that would teach them, right? It's disgusting that you're taking this elitist view. If you pass some kids who don't know about the books or who haven't been following the development of the movie and who wrote the screenplay and whatnot, why not just give them a friendly tap on the shoulder and tell them? Why be an arrogant asshole about it?

Arrogance like yours astounds me. The books are good but they're not some sort of holy tome that a person must have read in order to be considered even somewhat a functioning member of society. Remember there are probably plenty of classic pieces of literature that you've never read and are not familiar with. If someone made a movie based on one of these works, would you want some guy directing bitterness at you rather than just saying simple like, "If you liked that, you should check out the movie."

Grow up for fuck's sake. And yes, they sell plastic swords. Kids like plastic swords. I'm sorry if that's horrifying to you but you should probably based your religion on a piece of work that hasn't become so embedded in pop culture.

Okay, so let's assume he was referring to violent video games that are over the top and have substantial lacking in gameplay, as you seem to assume. Why do they need to stop coming out? I'm sure the whole system could be modified in the way you described or the way I described or whatever. Of course, the issue arising out of that is that probably you're going to get just as much complaining as ever. It seems like a lot of the people who are loud-mouthed braggarts online are drawn to MMORPGs and thus will complain about all aspects of the game, however implemented. Draw your own conclusions about how they are in real life. [Uh oh, this post is shifting into being a troll, as diagnosed by Slashdot moderators who love bringing the online pain down on people!]

Anyway, as for the football game point, which I have an interest in, I think there is room for both types of games. I have not played the new NFL Street from EA but I can tell you that I enjoy playing both NBA Street and ESPN NBA Basketball - fun arcade style vs. simulation.

Sure, Madden is consistently a big seller but if the quality began to deteriorate, don't you think people would buy a different game? Comparing EA to Microsoft is quite a stretch. Microsoft locks people in to their software by phasing out tech support, pushing competitors out of the market and other underhanded techniques.

You claim that the only reason Battlefield 1942 "stays alive" is because EA markets it well. Do you actually believe that? In this age where you can get dozens of opinions of a product from the Internet at a moment's notice, do you actually believe people are buying Battlefield 1942 just because they see some ads for it? Why are Battlefield 1942 quite popular then? Wouldn't people abandon the game once they realized that it wasn't good?

5 random events seem far from the movies? What event are you basing this on? And how do quests make this any more reasonable?

Looking at it, the movies really don't have that much in the way of how a Jedi is selected to become a Jedi. The only characters from the movies whose training has been portrayed is Anakin and Luke; Luke was mainly selected because of family lineage and events far out of his control demanding that he train AND Anakin was selected to be trainined because of his high level of forceness in his blood. Both of these situations seem quite random to me - I mean, you certainly don't pick your family lineage. Would you rather that in the game when you created a character, there was a random number generator employed to determine whether you had the appropriate inclination to become a Jedi? I mean, if you're basing it on the movies - that seems the most like the movies. Anakin and Luke both picked to become a Jedi but two events out of their control had to occur first - they had to be born with that special Jedi specialness and a Jedi had to be introduced to them so that they could be located and picked - in the Star Wars universe, Jedi are quite rare. If you make it, complete a set of quests and there's no randomness to it, then everyone would become a Jedi.

The point of all this is when you appreciate the game and take a real interest in the game [let's say football, just so the argument can be fleshed out fully], you enjoy seeing people who are far better than you playing it and exceling at it. Likewise, when you can simulate the game and actually use your plays and formations, it's exciting. I mean, why do people play the Sims?
