  1. Re:Ride that horse till it's dead! on Rockstar Announces GTA San Andreas · · Score: 1

I may be wrong on this, but I think Rockstar is a developer which is wholly owned by Take-Two, a distributer. So I guess Max Payne(2) was developed by Rockstar. At any rate IMHO Max Payne 1 was worlds better than Manhunt, but it's also the only shooter I can think of that could be described as pretentious.

    Manhunt

I don't like the GTA games, but that's personal taste I guess. Manhunt on the other hand is hard to defend. It's overly violent for no reason, and boring as hell to play on top of that. Rockstar is also responsible for SOE, though I think that was a different studio...

The one downfall of the Gamecube controller is the z button, it's a bit hard to get to at times, much like black and white on the Xbox S, not show stopping but annoying. I'd also like to see Sony replace the shapes with letters, letters are just easier when you're trying to learn a move or something. However I don't see this happening since Sony is using the shapes in their branding.

I maintain that XBOX one is an excercise in getting a feel for the market and brand awareness. XBOX2 is where Sony should be afraid, because MS will be out to win. And if Kaz Hirai's keynote speeches (at least the ones I've seen) are indicitive of Sony's attitude, they're getting too cocky for their own good.

I have to believe that the removal of the HD is more a per unit cost thing than a hacking prevention thing. I'd also think the HD is the component that has the highest rate of failure. The percentage of XBOX owners that even think of cracking open the case is probably in the low single digits (if that).

I'm not doing that because I don't have a problem with aggregate data collection. If my bank wants to sell data to Phillip Morris that leads to the conclusion that most male smokers between 18-30 spend an average of x on ciggarettes in a given week, and my data is part of that I don't care. If they (my bank) post a website with my name, contact info, and what I purchased for how much and when, then I have an issue.

My question is simply why don't you hear complaining about the data banks have access to, yet you hear complaints about something like RFID, which is unlikely to ever be used outside of supply chain and inventory management functions (I'd guess it'll be part of the disposable packaging rather than integrated into the product, or maybe even removable at checkout for reuse). For all the bitching you'd think they were proposing GPS beacons being physically attached to every product.

That brings up something I've oft wondered about the more privacy paranoid in the /. crowd. I bet most of us here heavily use debit cards, I know I do, and my bank is sitting on a moutain of data that they could probably make a killing selling to virtually any commercial venture. Are bank privacy policies really solid, is there a federal bank privacy law? I don't hear anyone's paranoid ranting being directed at banks.

Then you have grocer savings cards, I do hear a bit of complaining about those, but nothing near say RFID. Those are personally identifiable as far as I can tell.

That said none of the above are games I'd buy a system for. I bought the PS2 for GTA, hated it, and haven't really found anything I think is amazing for that system yet.
