You know that at least at McDonald's, and probably just about everywhere, you don't flip anymore. Clamshell grill, push it down and it pops up after so long.
The article quote says "To me C is dead. Except for the JIT!". So I don't see that as a declaration of C beind dead, just him saying in his own development world C is dead.
Two things regarding streaming video lately. 1) although I know/. is loath to admit MS doing something right, but WM9 can produce some impressive looking streams and 2) why is streaming porn so damn expensive? for $10 I might as well buy the DVD.
I bought an XBOX partly because I knew Doom 3 was coming to it. I'm not an MS fanboy, I just don't care to build/upgrade a PC to play a game, the console is easier to deal with I know Doom 3 XBOX will run on it, no driver/hardware/whatever issues.
Nothing but THPS games have always had placement, and billboards at a skateboard event don't seem out of context. Now if Halo2 has a Nokia ad on the side of a Covenant dropship I'll be irritated.
Is G4 still as pathetic as it was at launch? I haven't seen it in over a year, but early on it was really bad, stuff like reviews of games that were 2-3 months old, and the same few shows over and over and over and over...
I don't know that I feel MS is a monopoly anymore. They're the dominate player in desktop OSs for sure, but that position isn't unassailable. Various Linux distros are within striking distance of Joe Sixpack usability for the desktop, MS has real competition in the server, RDMS, app server, mobile, gaming, and productivty (that could be argued I suppose) sectors. So I guess my point is sure they currently own a market, but they aren't untouchable. And if they drop a XP 2nd Edition and push Longhorn out/shitcan it I don't know that they can hold people once Linux reaches a Windows level of usability.
Howard should try to get onto XM or Sirrius(sp), he could be free of FCC restraint and those two need something of that caliber to bring more subscribers. I'd seriously consider it if I could get Stern.
That depends. Mozilla + Thunderbird, which is my always on stuff is fine with 256 on XP Home. Throw in JDeveloper + mySQL + Tomcat or something and it gets swappy, which doesn't happen at work with 512 on my box.
First real machine I ever used, this is discounting the Tandy my Dad bought, was a Mac LC. 16Mhz, 4MB RAM, 40MB HD. I had ircle, Netscape 1.2, Eudora Light all in that tight little space. Now I use basically the same shit most times, and I need a hell of a lot more.
Yeah, I'm with you. My 95 machine came with 16, ran just dandy. I bumped it to 48MB which was fine for 98. 128 and XP is a bit painful, but can be done. XP with 256 is fine for day to day stuff. I figure Longhorn will be best at 512, doable with 256.
256MB is perfectly adequate for just about everything. I got my Inspiron with just 256 because Dell charges a ridiculous amount for extra RAM. The only time I feel like I need to push it to 512 or more is when I have a number of development things running.
That'd be a reference to the alpha builds. The alpha builds of Lornhorn all have activation as well. Why they think anyone would actually run those beyond a few minutes as a novelty I don't know, but they require activation, and are time bombed beyond that I think.
I'm with the post further down. ISPs need to start scanning outbound e-mail, and if a customer is sending infected attachments cut them off. Put some wording in the usage agreement that basically says you are responsible for the security of your box(s).
I got rid of my 9.2 partition because ACPI didn't work without some weird pia manipulation of things, and the networking config was kinda crappy. If I can close the lid of my laptop and it sleeps and/or hibernates ok (and wakes up right) I may give 10 a shot. The network config is less of an issue, but if it doesn't suck that'd be cool.
Yeah we apparently got that. Seems a bit odd to me that a worm can propagate when you have to enter a key to run it, for god's sake that's like getting a grenade in the mail with a note saying 'Pull this pin and hold'.
I know. And really I don't care if I'm being tracked, maybe my routine will be as boring for them as it is for me... work, home, bar, work, home, school, work, home, work, home... Hell they don't even need to bother tracking me.
One the bright side this may be the only way I ever get a coding job.

Anymore? There never really was. But that was the case pre internet as well, in middle school we had a ton of magazines, now kids have the internet.

If placement fits the game I couldn't care less, SSX3's use of placement fit. Just as long as they don't insert it into places where it doesn't fit...

This is a leaked build I think, so who knows what build MS is actually on internally at this point.

I'm willing to bet that BOA has a few more servers lurking around... I could be wrong but I'll put a buck on it.

Hey, I'm old enough to know that once you live with your girlfriend your gear doesn't get much use even if it is still working properly.
So they think I am always in my underwear drawer, since that is where the SIM card for my last GSM phone has resided for the last year.
TDMA for life!
Since when do we celebrate various equipment still working? Guess I better ready for my PS2's upcoming 2 year still working anniversary!
