So, you quit the game right before they released new high end content because you were tired of doing the same high end content ;) I quit the game cold turkey as well, just because it was taking up too much time. Your gripes are a little bit out of date as the end game content became a bit more flexible. There are always going to be people who race to the top. If you actually take the time and enjoy the content rather than trying to get there as fast as you can, it is actually quite enjoyable and they tend to release content faster than most people can handle. Sure, there are some people who play the game non-stop and get there fast. That isn't the majority of the users though.

Yes, you are sooo right. I mean, look at all the people still playing Ultima Online since it is so superior. I don't understand people like you. You obviously enjoyed the game to begin with...but as time goes on, it is NORMAL for people to want to try a different game and get tired or bored with the one they are playing. There is no game that exists or that will ever be made that will ever keep you content forever. They have done things that you disagree with...but you can't come up with anything better. You are just another nobody that likes to complain about something popular. If they did what you said, fixed anything that got complained about, then they would fix what you are whining about, right? See, you don't even make sense. Blizzard is by far the best company in the world at doing class balancing. The only way to perfectly balance arena PvP is have only one class. It makes sense that some classes are more optimal than others. It makes sense that gear should make a difference otherwise what would be the freaking point in collecting it?

The stuff you suggest appeals to a small subset of people...mainly jerks and exploiters. I think you might enjoy Eve Online.

You are a moron and I don't like you. The video game industry has every right to lobby just as any other group. If you or the people you represent are incapable of parenting, please refrain from having children. I am sick and tired of people like you telling me that there is something wrong with my hobby. The real problem is you forcing your morales on other people. It isn't ok when religious extremists do it in the Middle East, it isn't ok when you do it in our country. This is a nation formed of many different races and religions. It is also formed of adults and children. Children, that I don't have, should not prevent me from enjoying a game intended for my age group. I'm only 30, but keep your kids off my lawn too.

I disagree. In an MMORPG if you were to start over again and play, wouldn't you be better? You are gaining skills on how to play the game as you are leveling. When you participate in PvP, you would play better than someone just starting. And part of the game itself is leveling...so if you figure out how to get experience faster, you are improving at playing the game. As long as you are enjoying the game mechanic, it doesn't matter if you are playing the same guitar hero song over and over again until you beat it or going out doing PvP over and over again until you get the gear you wanted. They are both grinds, but as long as you are enjoying it, I don't see the problem. If you don't enjoy it, then why the heck are you playing the game?

  14. Re:My personal feelings.. on The State of Security in MMORPGs · · Score: 4, Insightful

Eh, this is the same tired point that is pulled out every time there is an article about MMORPGs. "Oh, it's the grind that drives people to cheat...if their were only good designers in the world that could make MMORPGs without grinds." The thing is, the best designers in the world are working on these games. People, in fact, play these games because of the grind. They put effort in to something and then they get a reward. This is the same in real life, except the results take much longer before they occur (or may not occur at all). Take any other game and you see it follows the same model in a different form. Geometry Wars you grind until you beat your next high score. Guitar Hero you grind on a song until you can get 5 stars. Etc. etc.

If you play any game long enough, you are going to get tired of it and want to play another game. That is just being normal.

As far as cheating goes, some will do it for the challenge. Most of the others will just do it because they want to be better than their friends. It is a competition. It's a dumb place to want to be recognized...but people do it. If people hated the game, they just wouldn't play it anymore. They love the game, they just want an edge over others and will do whatever they can to get there faster. The grind is in everything...just it is just popular to bash it in here since people on here like to bash what other people enjoy instead of actually coming up with anything better.

  17. It's a combination, sure, but... on McDonald's UK CEO Blames Video Games for Childhood Obesity · · Score: 1

So, we know, or at least should, that to decrease our weight and increase our fitness we need to change the way we eat and exercise more. The more calories we burn in exercise, the more high calorie foods we can eat. But, if we didn't want to work out, we could very easily (if you have will power when it comes to food) maintain our weight by just eating the proper amount and avoiding fast food like McDonalds. So what I am saying is, I can play video games all I want and not become obese as long as I alter what I eat. I won't win any body building contests, but I can stay thin. On the other hand, if I eat only McDonalds food, I will become obese. You don't need large quantities of that stuff to get fat.

The problem is fast food is quick to get and very cheap. It is interesting how in the past, a more plump person was viewed as wealthy since they could afford lots of food with little physical effort. Now we are attracted to people who are thin and our poor population continues to get fatter and fatter.

Can video games be blamed for some people being fat? Possibly, but they could replace that activity with television, the Internet, knitting, playing cards, etc etc with the same result.

Ultimately, there is only really one person to blame in this: the individual. There is no mystery on how people are getting fat. Get out and exercise and stop eating crap. It angers me to see this guy point the finger at gaming though. It is just the popular punching bag of our time. The guy serves some of the least healthy food on the planet and he thinks that if there just wasn't gaming, we'd all be perfect.

Oblivion, and I am speaking as a PC gamer here, was far superior to Morrowind. Yeah, things were less customizable in the sense that you couldn't do little tricks to make yourself completely invincible by using alchemy and spell casting. I think it was less about being dumbed down and more about having more control on what a player was able to do so that they couldn't get stupidly powerful. But Oblivion was just much more fun to play and much more engrossing in its quests. I couldn't play through all of Morrowind because it just got boring after awhile...while Oblivion I played all the way through and had over 100 hours of game play. I didn't have a problem with the interface...but that's a good thing about being a PC gamer. There are plenty of people out there who were like you and made mods to make oblivion more morrowindy.
