Well, at least two now. I subscribed rather late and only have the last 7 or 8 issues. Apparently those who have issues hoard them like I, I can't find back issues anywhere. Yes, that's how good it was, I'd buy back issues for a long-dead computer game magazine.
I admit, I haven't watched any of Joss Whedon's shows. However, he is writing the new X-Men comic, and so far I am really enjoying his story setup and take on the characters. Issue 2 came out this week, as well as a "Director's Cut" of Issue 1.
If you're out of the X-Men loop, (or never in it in the first place), Issue 1 does a decent job of setting up the situation and characters, though it does make more sense if you've been following the recent story lines. Hopefully I'll get to check out Firefly soon, since his comic writing reflects well on him.
Here at WVU the CS department went and put Linux on all the Sparcs (and the NT boxes as well). The Sparcs were running Solaris for the 3 previous years I've been here, plus for who knows how long before that, so take that for what you will.
I was at the local Gamestop, and one of the employees mentioned their new return policy. (Return in 3 days for new games for store credit I believe, used to be 14 or longer and cash I believe. One might not even be able to exchange new games for others. Their used game policy is much more friendly.) Then he told me the reason why. Evidentally Gamestop (and I've suspected EB of doing this as well) would sell newly-bought, returned games in new condition as new, even though they had technically been used. Apparently some kid bought one of these returns (at another store), thinking it was a new one (as it was sold to him), took it home, and his mom discovered that it was actually was one that had been returned.
Of course, since this is America, she didn't just return it and bitch and get her money back (which the clerk assured me that the store would have done if she had complained.) Instead she sued Gamestop for something like $1 million, and they were forced to make their return policy much stricter. Like I said, odds are EB does or used to do the same, for I've bought 'new' copies of games that weren't the display copy, and the disc wasn't in a sealed case.
(As an aside, I hate getting a display model. I don't care if the disc is untouched or not, having an unsealed case with a bunch of extra stickers on it doesn't sit well with me.)
Anyway, I don't like the idea of getting a used copy marketed as new, it just sucks that their policy had to be changed. I liked the fact that if I bought a game and absolutely detested it I could get my money back. I only did this once (at an EB) and spent my money in the store on another game anyway.
(Of course, this could all be a line of BS that was fed to me, but it seemed sincere.)
Plus find a program called RPCDE (cause I'm not sure exactly where I got it and a quick google look didn't find it. Then use WinDVD or PowerDVD or whatever came with your drive or you have purchased, and you're set.
I shit you not, first day of CS 453: Computer Networking (Internet applications) class, the professor comes in, hooks his laptop up to the projector and gets it working, and then turns the projector off to write on the white board. 20 minutes later he goes to turn the projector back on, and the Blaster worm had got him. Go back to the engineering building today, and the graduate student computer lab has a sign on the door saying "closed due to virus."
Kind of sad that my cheap Linksys router's firewall kept me protected (I didn't patch until this morning because of it, tisk tisk I know) while the school with all its tech heads is getting blasted.
Of course, maybe I shouldn't be suprised, this is the same school that put Debian on all the Sparcs and NT boxes, yet has CS professors that require homework to be submitted in a Word template that OpenOffice.org Writer chokes on. If Blizzard and Valve released all their games with Linux clients, and I didn't have to deal with stupidity such as the previous example, I wouldn't even be using fscking windows...I'm converted to OpenOffice.org, and Mozilla Thunderbird/Firebird.
Better, and *gasp* article relevent. (Article quote: "The Brutus project has been running for over a year now. Chrilly Donninger has consulted all the leading experts in the field, and he is also cooperating with a strong Russian GM.")
*Sigh* ArtX did the graphics hardware for the GameCube. ATI bought them out sometime between the time the bulk of the design for the hardware was completed and the release of the console. Thus, the GameCube has a little ATI sticker on the front, even though it's not really an Radeon type product.
First, fuck the mods that moderated this as funny. As someone who went to high school with her, knows her a little, and considers himself good friends with her brother, I don't find this funny at all.
Second, I'm as outspoken as anybody about my displeasure with Bush and the whole Iraqi situation as anyone, but don't blame it on the kids who join the armed forces because they see it as a way to afford college and have a better life while showing a little pride in their country.
Finally, try seeing people you know and know well talking on Dateline and shows like that about someone you know that was seriously injured while somewhere that she never should have been. I'm tired of all the sensationalism too, but that doesn't give me or anyone else the justification of making light of the people involved in the situation.
A family friend used to work for the Navy designing computer systems for the various large ships. (One project he worked on was a system to replace paper maps with electronic versions. He had to develop a giant screen to display the maps that could serve as a table as well...they had to be Captain's coffee proof.) After a long and grueling project was developed, he got to go to the Mediterranean and Hawaii to install the systems onto the ships. What was nice was that he could take his vacation right after he was done installing the systems, and get his transportation to and from the exotic locales paid for by his job.
"Everyone who has broadband and cares about games will have an Xbox with Xbox Live!."
I have broadband. I care about games. I do not have, and most likely never will get, an Xbox, let alone Xbox Live. I'm perfectly happy with my PS2, Gamecube, PC, PS1, Saturn, SNES, GBA, and GB Color, thank you very much.
The vehicles are really nice...too bad the past entries from my school (WVU) sit chained to the ground out front of the engineering building, instead of at least being driven around to high schools to be shown off, or something like that.
One of my CS instructers came back from Japan last semester with something similar to this, (scroll down to the bottom, yes it's an old picture, only thing I could find that looked similar), but smaller and faster and without the camera. (It was a Sony though.) It also had a keyboard that you could actually type on, at least a little better than the Vulcan one. Of course, the battery was the same size and weighed more than the rest of the computer.
Yes mods, this is offtopic, I'm just kindly replying to the parent post.
This (www.marveldirectory.com) is a site I found about a month ago. Nothing too in-depth but fun to poke around in.
They (Square-Enix) are having sign ups for beta testing Final Fantasy XI on the PS2, so I would figure that they are going to be bringing the HDD out over here eventually.

What's that other degree I'll be getting in a couple of months, besides CS?
Philosophy...yeah...I'm fucked. ;)
As far as I know, no one has gotten the FireWire port on the PS2 working. The base distro from Sony doesn't support it.
Just a guess, but perhaps those were the games from which he sent in the seals. (BTW, FF:CC is a NGC title with GBA connectivity.)

Sooo...In (former) SOVIET RUSSIA, chess overlords welcome you!

The amazon review and another site confirm this, but I can't find any hard numbers right hand

20 minutes between your posts too, plenty of time for you to not be redundent.

Cutting through RMS' crud.

That, and if you live in the US, you'd end up making a visit to Austrailia, not China.
Geez...somebody mod parent down

Surely you know that "Random Number Generator" is the uber-geek term for a D6!
Must explain why it's still not on the front page (for me at least, logged in or not, at this computer or another.)
