Actually Clint Mansell (formerly of Pop Will Eat Itself) did the songs that were composed for the movie. There was an Aphex Twin (it's one guy, by the way) track on the soundtrack though (Bucephalus Bouncing Ball).

But yeah. Great soundtrack, I really like Clint's songs too.

  3. "Fusker" on Why Such Unimaginative Nomenclature? · · Score: 1

I created a perl CGI-script some years ago for leeching pron (it basically copies the sequence and range parts of cURLs functionality).

The name isn't really fully related to what it does (in Danish it means hacker/cheater), but it has since come to mean generating or downloading lists of images that are sequentially named. At least in a handful of communities that I know of.

So yeah, my point is that even for arbitrarily named items, it doesn't really matter, because the name will end up meaning what it does, so to speak.

(fusker.com is not my version, my version is defunct, but code is available upon request)

  5. Re:Tagging my ass... on Cultured Perl: Fun with MP3 and Perl, Part 1 · · Score: 1

    Sorry, but that's incorrect.

The ID3v1 tag, according to this document, was "a fix-sized 128-byte tag that would reside at the end of the audio file. It would include title, artist, album, year, genre and a comment field." these are fixed-width fields. As an example, a trackname can be a maximum of 30 chars long.

This was not enough (as anyone who listens to Godspeed knows :)), and it was completely replaced with a real tag-based system. Each ID3v2 tag has a header with a type and a length, etc, so that they can have variable length. They're placed at the beginning, as MP3-players usually look for the proper mpeg-patterns before playing. No pops...

Written partially from memory. Anyway, back to coding bsp-trees. Please kill me.

There are things that can easily be done with a live performance that can't readily be done with MID, MOD, S3M, XM, or even IT, such as vocals and electric guitar effects.

Aha, so in order to be original, one has to use original never-before-used concepts, such as vocals and electric guitar effects. ;)

I don't know if Doom3 uses DirectX, but there is a company called Coderus that makes porting games & apps that do use it easier. They've created a library called MacDX that is basically a wrapper for all the DirectX calls to make them work on a Mac. It's carbon, so it'll work with both X & classic too.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Coderus, and I haven't tried MacDX, but the idea sounds neat.
