I'm confused. It seems to me that emissive displays would have the advantage over reflective in most situations. Reflective would only be superior in brightly lit environments (like outside).

And the need to shine a lamp on my TV screen doesn't sound too appealing. 1) If the lighting isn't even then there'll be dark areas and 2) having a bright lamp illuminating the screen sort of detracts from the experience of watching a movie in a darkened room.

Or maybe I'm envisioning it wrong.

You're right in this case but not for the reason you state. For example:

Incorrect: "My poker hand had three four's and two eight's."

But when talking about decades it's correct to leave the apostrophe off.

You won't find many fat geeks in a place like Akihabara. I spent a day wandering around there this past January looking for a part to fix a customer's machine. Most of the stores are stacked up many stories high and since I can't read Japanese I was forced to explore most of them hoping they had what I needed. I easily walked more vertical miles than horizontal.

    I slept good that night.

My past favorite genre, flight simulators, is already pretty much dead. Four years ago people laughed at the idea of it dying, but that's just what happened.
I'd call it a cycle rather than a "dying". When hardware reaches the point where truly realistic terrain can be rendered then I'm betting flight simulators will see a rebirth. I think many people (like myself) get bored flying over pixelated bitmaps with a few bland 3D blocks jutting out of it to serve as buildings. When I can skim over the tops of trees and watch their branches shake in my wash as I maneuver down a narrow valley with rocky peaks looming over me on both sides, then maybe I'll be turned on by a flight simulator again. How long do you think I'll have to wait?

Everyone's talking about Linux for the most part in this thread. What about other products? Ever open the door to the soda fridge at your local convenience store looking for a nice, cold bottle of Diet Coke only to discover that they are out of Diet Coke while the 8 rows next to where they should be are occupied by Lemon Diet Coke, Lime Diet Coke, Cherry Diet Coke, Vanilla Diet Coke, etc.? Enough, Coca Cola! And I deal with the same frustration with toothpaste. 25 different flavors of Crest are fighting for 6 feet of shelf space. Yes, some choice is good. Hooray for having a choice between Pepsi and Coke, Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke, etc. but once a company's own products are struggling for room on the shelves then it's time to recalculate the benefits of such product saturation.
