    I've been advocating for an energy independent military for a long time. Supply lines are the vulnerable backside to any campaign. Reducing the material that flow through should be a number 1 concern of logistics.

    He created a project that fostered international cooperation and was essential to the expansion of the internet. It made thousands of embedded devices possible and freed computers from the shackles of proprietary operating systems. It made computing possible for millions of people around the world who otherwise would not be able to afford computers. The non-profit, collaborative model opened doors to connect computer professionals from all around the globe. He would definitely be one of the best candidates in 20 years.

    Send emails with read receipts and save offline copies of all replies. Make it clear that the business in jeopardy because of pirated software. Explain how one employee can call in a claim and the business could be raided by the BSA backed up by police. Express genuine concern about the importance of this. Explain there are open source alternative that cost nothing. If the owner actually says *in writing* that he still doesn't care about purchasing licenses or switching to FOSS, then tell him you cannot continue working under these conditions. You have to do it. If not, as the IT person, you may become liable. Stress the fact that you are being asked to do something ILLEGAL and cannot continue. If he doesn't connect the dots and lets you leave, immediately go to the BSA with your documentation and do exactly what you said "one employee can do." I'm no friend to software companies, EULA, or the BSA--but its the way it is with our current laws and you have protect yourself. Remember, the whistleblower law will protect you as you long as you go the proper authorities first.

    I had the exact same problem except I was the tech support for my whole extended family. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, etc. I was constantly getting called to take of virus/spyware and windows driver issues. I reinstalled many of them to Ubuntu and Super OS and I rarely get called for tech support from them now. Everything just works and they are very happy.

    I just upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and it is awesome. Near flawless automatic hardware detection and just amazingly fast. The look and feel is smooth and polished. I never thought 9.04 would look so slow and clunky in comparison. My only complaint is the default background is again not an animal, just a pattern. :( I was so looking forward to seeing a cute Koala bear on bootup.

    You're thinking of the 2nd to the 3rd Doctor regeneration. The 1st Doctor to 2nd Doctor regeneration had no other explanation other than he was fatigued and worn out.

    I used to be a Wikipedia believer... Until I realized certain articles were dominated by advocacy groups that aggressively edit out information that does not conform to their beliefs. Just as an example, look at the Marijuana article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marijuana I still like to read some articles here and there, but I no longer believe that it has the potential to be the dispassionate dispenser of human knowledge that I once did. There are still lots of articles about math or science and that are accurate and relatively free of bias because nobody really cares. Here's an example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratic

    Wikipedia is mostly a good and accurate resource of information. It's the hot controversial articles that are suspect. They become dominated by "gangs" of like-minded editors that skew the information towards their point of view, reject sources that disagree with their agenda, and revert edits by anybody else. For example, the articles on Marijuana are dominated by a marijuana legalization advocacy group who downplay the harmful effects and reject studies that say otherwise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marijuana

    India is going through a tech boom similar to the U.S. tech boom in the 90's. Qualified computer-related experts are demanding higher and higher salaries and jumping to whatever company is the current high bidder. As the wages go up, the rest of India's economy booms. India is beginning to take on many of the good and bad aspects of the U.S. economy. With most of its over 1 billion people in povberty, China can out compete India easily on wages. Training just 1% of that number with technial support produces a 10,000,000 strong workforce. The process of U.S. jobs migrating to India will happen to Indian jobs over the next 5-10 years as China becomes the outsourcing destination of choice.

    The values seem to rely on the subjective opinion of the the one calculating it. This is worse than the Drake Equation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation). At best this seems to predict which sitcom the individual chooses the values will like the most.

    I wonder what it is about D&D they object to. Is it the fantasy aspects of it? What about roleplayers who the Star Wars RPG or a modern based RPG like Spycraft? Are they in the same group? Also, do they object to the time and devotion given to the game or the fact they are playing an imaginary character? If so, what about all-strategy games like Warhammer? It would seem to me that wargamers might actually be looked upon favorably in the military due their familiarity with strategy.
