but I would like to see it to be able to carry more than 200lbs of gear - by the time you strap on your extra oxygen bottles, there's at least 50 lbs of extra gear..
That, and like the article mentions, where are you gonna stick it when you're done?
But I suppose if you're doing a raid on a Columbian drug lords compound, hiding the wing wouldn't matter much.
but how abought (gasp!)when I hit the power button, an appliance (computer, TV, VCR, stereo, whathefuggever!) just turns off, much like 'old' ATX computer's used to do - when you hit the power button, it controlled a relay that turned off the actual p/s. It required physical contact (hitting the button again) to start the computer again... This meant I could turn off my comp if it froze without holding down the power button for 4 secs... of course, if I want it to sleep/hibernate, that's different...
when I hit the power button, I want something to turn off. period. no sleeping, no drawing an extra watt or two, off should mean off!
------ ok, mod me down, I'm sure I've repeated some one, some where
Honestly - this is the anti thesis of most Slashdot - where's the news? I'm sure if you dug hard enoguh, you'd find a patent for booger-picking... (owned by me) and therefore gates is in violation, and owes me 1 trillion dollards.... and stuff...
But who's suprised that the *feds* can brute force a WLAN? From my own (albiet limited) understanding, it's not to hard to packect sniff and crack on your own... The feds have moer CPU power than *most* average joes anyhow, so I'm just suprised that they decided to go public with this...
of the many disparaging comments above - I think this is neat...
As TFA states - it's cool because it's using something that many (better off) geeks already carry... And doesn't require you to do anything all that special...
Yes, you can use a normal thumbdrive - bit this is 20-40 gigs of space, and it's with a lot of people all the time...
And really, is it a big deal to throw a spare usb cable into your backpack, manpack, or car?
Glad that someone got this right -even if it IS the french...
Now, if we can use this in courst, but I don't think that international rulings will work to set a precedent - especially in the current mostly-anti-french culture that's prevelant in the US nowadays..
But, on the plus side, I finally found a reason to like the french!
The primary author of the legislation, State Sen. Larry Mumper, told the paper the legislature never intended it to apply to individuals selling items over eBay. But Mumper, while vowing changes, couldn't say exactly who would or would not be exempt from the license requirement under any changes in the pending law.
The author of the legislation ( who does sound like a buffoon> says right there that this wasn't designed again ebay sellers... I was designed for normal B&M auctioneers.... I'm sure that our good friends in the government will be pai... change their mind soon enough....
This is ridiculous (sp)... But, this is why (at least here in the US) there are anti-trust laws - to offer a *hope* of a choice...Currently, I'm in Honduras w/ the Air Force, and it costs us out the ass every time we make simple phone call out off base - something to the tune of $.60USD a minute... All because tele[hones are rare around here or something...
Point is, competition is GOOD... after RTFA, all that I can see is the state backed company doesn't want to lose their precious sole income source... This is gonna be bad, but it sounds almost as bad as the RIAA and their ilk not wanting to deal with electronic music purchasing, so they seek to outlaw it in ALL forms....
Sounds like this is Valves way of saying 'yeah, this is just a rehack of the original HL... Sorry to get your hopes up, but we're NEVER gonna realease this game '
The Net is decentralized... however, if several *LARGE* sites happen to be resolved through one DNS server and it crashes, people think that the 'net is down'... IIRC, Helldesk people bitch about this - people calling up and saying 'I can't get to www.mytimewastingbullshitpage.com, is the net down?' Not realizing that just becuase one or two or thirty sites are down, the net is still up....
FWIW, I missed google for all of 10 minutes, and figured it was my work ISP....
Hell, my Coast Guard buddy CANNOT afford to live off base with a ~$1000/mo housing stipend in Alameda County..... a decent place for him and his wife + 2 dogs + 1 cat would be AT LEAST $1500/mo....
Programmers bitch about making $45k a year..... I made $27k tops.... (but only $14k was taxed!)

They store them on huge multi-terabyte disk arrays....
Here in the shop where I work, we have 1.5 TB of storage space, sitting in 2' of 19" rack space...
Disk storage is NOT an issue for something like this...
And for all you people who are asking what the macs are used for, it's to process the scanned frames.....
It really need VR glasses to make it 'happen'... The technology is sweet... Now imagine if you could 'see' the battle field, and you and 63 of your friends could mass at a local soccer field and play things like this -in real life- -in VR- while actually having to scramble around, duck, weave, etc... There'd be no more whhite, pasty geeks!!!
Seriously, I think the technology is cool, but I don't tihnk it will take off due to the LACK of graphics, completely... but the concept is _very_ cool...

looks like more toys for the special boys.
At my last assignment, we used AVID video editors exclusively. We had a 24/7 next day delivery contract with them (12K per workstation!!!)
When our server died, (more accurately, the JBOD case) we had a new one the next day.
I guess it depends on what you're doing, but in that circumstance, it pays to use the industry leader - they're number one for a reason.
How come it took him a year to reply to /. ? Aren't we good enough for him, or were all those 'hot Norwegian babes' distracting him?

this is beyond the perview of submitters/editors, but could people PLEASE post stories that include puncuation?
This might be offtopic, but I found it VERY hard to read/understand/care whne I had to reread each sentence a couple of times..
Or am I dumb, and it was translated from french?
Either way, I don't see hte huge deal about a thumb driven PDA (which is what this is)

What's the point of make a '3-d' desktop environment, when it's displayed on a 2-d monitor?
Untill we get some type of projected display, or headsey unit, or what have you, it's NOT 3-D... it's 2-d displayed to 'look 3-d'...
Watch TV sometime, you'll see how hard it is to TRULY display 3-d (and, no Tv's aren't 3-d either)
Besides, if it were truly 3-d desktop/filemanager environment, how am I going to be able to move my mouse in the 3rd dimension?

Maybe if he didn't use such violent language, games wouldn't be violent, and we wouldn't want to try and shoot *him* down....
