Actually, my cat has built-in audio and force feedback capabilities that make playing a game progressively harder the longer I delay feeding it.. So feeding the cat is already tightly integrated into my gaming experience!
I hear the new Cat 720 will provide even more immersive add-on difficulty while gaming..!
Not to nitpick, but "as expected" is only true if you know any of the established languages where this is true.
A beginning programmer would not expect to be able to assign a number (a negative number, nonetheless!) to a variable that's supposed to hold a character.
A more intuitive, less error-prone approach would be to disallow this assignment and provide a function to explicitly convert a number to an ASCII character. The fact that both are stored in the same way in hardware is irrelevant.
I just had a discussion with my boss about how deeply flawed some code I wrote a while ago is (I was the one complaining, not my boss).
I think most programmers get this feeling when they've learned new stuff, that their old stuff sucks. That's not true of course, it's just that they can now see the flaws of something that was useful in its day but could have been better. I expect it's the same with game designs.
If open source wants to survive, we need more focus on a narrower range of products
Yeah, and if people want world peace, they should all be nice to each other.
In other words: how exactly are we going to accomplish that? 'Open source' doesn't want anything and there is no 'we'. There's just thousands of people behaving like people.
What exactly is taken away from you if some people decide it's important to "woo Windows users away from their desktops"? Nothing. These people have different goals than you and accomplishing these goals takes nothing away from you.
I think what you're really trying to say is "every free software coder should have the same goals as I do." That's a bit of a narrow view.

Why isn't this modded offtopic? This is the third comment in a short time I see from CyricZ about the GameFAQ forums his grandson seems to frequent. I don't care about this guy's personal vendetta and I don't think it should be modded +5 interesting.
No, the main problem is the same as with Slashdot submitters and editors: sensationalism.
Most researchers are careful about what claims they make. But 'journalists' come along and present their findings in a sensationalist and inaccurate manner in order to make the story appear more interesting.
Well, if GP is correct, you can only become a Sith apprentice by killing another Sith apprentice. So the sum of Sith apprentices and masters can only decrease.
So the Sith must eventually become extinct if they follow their own rules. Even more ironic than rain on your wedding day!

Or, more importantly, how do you find out where they've decided to put the backslash this time?

Just edit your /etc/hosts and you should be good to go!

Insightful? I certainly hope comparing a short Internet outage to large disasters is a joke..
What does that mean? Not trying to flame here, just genuinely curious.
RTM = Release To Manufacturer.
Took me a while to find out. *sigh*
Oh, I know that one. It's played with one ethernet cable and it's called "Plug out, plug in!"

Wish I had points, I would mod this up. ;-))

I wish.. The only reason I have a Gamecube now is to finally heal the psychological scars of never getting a NES for my birthday back then..
I know a much cheaper way to make your own chatcord. It involves two cans and some string..

Hah! Next you'll be claiming that Mel Gibson wasn't referring to his software ideology in Braveheart.
Oh sorry, that should be GNU/Braveheart.
This new kind of window would provide eXtreme Protection. I guess would be called 'Window XP'.
So, twenty-six years after the publication of the Hitchhiker's Guide, and we still think digital clocks are a pretty neat idea.
Humanity is doomed.
No, let them start makin a good product again so that they provide Adobe with some competition and hopefully keep history from repeating itself.
This story does only one of those things.
