Actually, sarcasm aside, there is nothing like in-your-face real-world examples to help teach these concepts. Kids understand more than you think, but this is especially sweet since it's video games. It hits home, it's not far away distant 60's civil rights, but it'll do as an example to get them involved. Get them to ask questions, ask why this is happening.
I have 2 comments:
1. What if my web page says "Reading this does not a business relationship make"?
2. You still use a real FAX machine with real ink and paper? Shame on you. And don't quote me SOX rules, I've been there and conquered.

How do you know SWG _and_ EQ are not fun if you don't play them?
I used to play text muds with a passion, and I'll agree, no graphics will ever top the power of my imagination.
How many of those applying for beta already pay a subscription to a MMO already? I'd bet a lot, and I'd bet they won't be paying for 2 games. This is pure speculation, but I think the beta applicants would switch in a heartbeat if WoW came up with the goods.
After all, I play EQ, do you think I'm gonna apply for the next Deer Hunter beta?
Once I needed to contact the president of a company and I didn't know his extension. I started my brute-force hack with: 0-0-0, then 0-0-1, "Hello, You have reached the desk of [president] blabla". Anyhow.
That doesn't always work - You get a lot more 'Invalid seletion' replies to that tactic these days. I tend to stick to businesses that have an online customer service. Airline, Car rental, and Hotel is all online now... Only pisser is dealing with the phone company itself, or my utilities like gas/electric/water. Hell maybe that's online too these days..
I don't know how to put this, but.. everyone has something they can relate to, everyone has a different AHA! button. As a teacher and a resource on things attached to CPUs, your job is to find their weak spot and shove that information into their brain. I salute you for not giving up on your loved ones and friends.

Yeah, I used page to guide me through making nvidia drivers work on a toshiba laptop running debian with a NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) FX Go5200 and a 2.6 kernel. Worked right away too.
I do. Not because it's better to run on sparc, but because I have so many free sparcs gathering dust in the backroom. They make great Debian boxes, and the job gets done.
Em, try again. That used to be true a few years ago. It is still expensive (compared to Wyoming, I'm sure), but if you are a tech company, nothing beats being 3 doors down from your customers.
There are so many empty buildings in the valley now that they will gladly eat their left hand to get you to sign a lease. I know this, I just got my landlord to chop my lease IN HALF, and get my logo put on the big sign facing North 1rst street. My little dinky company, manhandling the real estate kings.
It's still expensive, but it's a renters market.
I agree with what you say, only because of the crazyness you see on CNN every other year, but I'm also pretty sure that the shoot-the-office scenarios are an after-the-fact deal, not done on the same day. I should check my facts, but I don't recall any ape-sh*ts on the same day as the firings.
And, I've witnessed people getting fired. There are many ways to tell someone who put their blood and guts into the company, only to see their bosses make out like kings and ditch the operation.
I think this is the common case: How do you tell someone they wasted the last 2-3 years (or more) of their life and not be an asshole about it. Thats a hard problem.
My server is getting quite overloaded at the moment due to lots of publicity (more than quadruple my usual traffic), resulting in access problems and errors for a lot of people. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, and I'm working on improvements - if you're having trouble checking out the site, please visit again soon when everything should be back to full working order. Thanks...
The Economist is a great magazine. It's the only one I read cover to cover.
This has to be a part of the solution, it is simple, everyone can pitch in, and it just makes sense.
Good - What a nice recognition for hard work in public service.
DELL also sells 'Asset Protection' $72/3yr, in case you lose your laptop. Oh here is a paper with wild numbers in it. Hrm..

I didn't think about that - you make a good point :)

I just got everyone to click on the little red Firebird icon instead of the blue E. Woe is me.

Wake me up when the industry figures this out. Now _that_ will blow everything out of the water.
I find this interesting. It appears people actually RTFA before posting, in this case. Post quality is another topic, for sure.

Where are my mod points... Thanks for that post, it made my day a little better.

How embarassing to be on that list.

Clicky for HUGE Utah meth industry? If it's handy, that is :)
Ooo that's almost a Godwin's Law event, how tantalizing!

No it's considered unable to find the handy dandy time_t() doo-hickey to convert the date correctly.
