    Ok, then I am confused by why they call themselves "The Postgres Database Company" Do you mean a compatibility layer for Oracle ? Oracle has their own NoSQL database which is not Mongo.

    They are losing clients to MongoDB so they come out with this FUD, ala Microsoft. If they were not losing clients, they would not bother putting out such results.

    IANAL, but I do not think you are wrong. You have to destroy the 'fair use' copies once the original license is transferred to another parter.

    So IBM, developer of Eclipse, thinks that Eclipse is great and better than XCode. Who would have thought that. Just a little bit of bias.

    XCode is much better at developing Java on a mac.

    The mac may have a small marketshare, but in terms of mind share it is much , much larger. The last developers conference I went to, I guessed that at least half were mac laptops. Second windows, and then Ubuntu Linux.

    Winamp can do some damage to iTunes. IF AOL markets it wisely, IF the make the interface as easy as iTunes, IF they make their music store as easy as iTunes, IF they can get their service to work with 70% of the music players out there, then yes, then can hurt iTunes.

    But if AOL was so compenent, they would not be near bankruptcy would they?

    We use a lot of utilities. They were not all written by Stallman, and not GNU by the way.

    We use Cron, written by Paul Vixie, everyday also.

    Pirates are in the business for the same reason as everybody else, to make money.

    The soon find out that if they move up the product chain, they can charge more and make more profit.

    Look at the pirate DVD market in china. First it was just shabby envelopes with badly copied covers. In just a few years, they had moved to products that counld be sold next to legitimate products.

    This is just another example. They probably started off pirating some small NEC part, and it just kept growing and they had to make the fraud look more and more realistic over time.

    I think it is very similar to Froogle. But I am sure someone in Google has noticed that fact also.

    What I think is interesting is how Google payments works with Google base and not Froogle.

    I think when retailers go for Google base, there will be a pre-built e-commerce rig waiting to go.

    Froogle will be for the rest of us punters.

    We won't know until we know what Oracle plans to do with InnoDB. Oracle is having trouble competing with MySQL. Look at the last realease that was free to use and deploy. They ( As does MSSQL ) have to compete withh MySQL.

    Oracle could repackage InnDB as a gateway db, with Oracle compatibility to get users hooked on an Oracle product that would later lead to sales.

    IMHO, Oracle does not need the technology, as Oracle has tons of capabilities. There is probably another reason why they bought InnoDB. We won't know what they will do until they actually plan to do.

    The reason I have an iPod is so that I can listen to the music I want , when I want. If I wanted to listen to generic ClearChannel music, I can listen to XM. I have been listenint to my own playlists and I don't think I would listen to radio again, even if it is on a cell phone.

    ADSL/Fiber in Japan can run pretty quick. The fiber they are running now is 50Megs up and 100 megs down.

    Take a look at this, they are running TV over fiber now. I guess if you have the speed....

    The report talks about costs per square mile. But those costs rely on the population density.

    If you look at certain parts of Tokyo and Taiwan, you have some of the most densely populated areas with high rates of broadband usage in the world.

    Maybe cities should not be building WiFi networks covering corn fields in Illinois, but they certainly make sense for place like Tokyo , Taipei, New York and Bombay.

    Nope, does not block all of .tw, but some IP addresses are blocked even if they are not in a .tw domain but hosted in Taiwan. Don't understand the bizarre reason for the blocking. Sometimes things are blocked, sometimes things are not.

    I don't really care if the commies can read web sites in Taiwan, they have blenty of websites in their own country to censor and harass.

    It is a little bit more complicated than that.

    Taiwan = Traditional
    China = Simplified
    Hong Kong = Traditional
    Singapore = Both ( But most kids learn Smiplified )
    Overseas Chinese = Traditional

    Traditional encoding uses Big5, but simplified uses HZ and GB2312.

    I have been using it for quite some time on a large active database. I have not had any problems with corruption, and it has been solid as a rock so far.

    Why use mysql instead of Postgres ? Speed....

    UCITA is pro-commercial allowing the crappy shrink wrapped cr@p to live on. If it was rversed, it would help the end user by making the companies that made it more respnosible.

    Seeing that, me thinks that it would also help open ource by making it harder for closed source companies to compete.

    Think about it, what if M$ HAD to fix all the bugs with M$ SQL...could it compete with MySql ?
