Considering all that, why the heck would Blizzard give it away?
Well because A lot of people will continue to pay for it but i'm just not sure i would. Thats a 50 dollar gamble right there. Its truly a crapshoot if you think about it (you can always sell the game later on if it was a single player and recoupe your losses)
I was just hooked up with a 15 day free pass for COH the ONLY MMORPG i've ever considered buying and its quite awsome. SO awsome that i will continue to be charged 14.95 for the privlage of playing it. I am not going to give them 50 dollars for a useless cd and booklet. I'm not going to give their distibutor any money when MMORPG are the type of games YOU SELL DIRECTLY TO PEOPLE. Downloading the game only took me 2hrs on my broadband connection. I would of payed for the bandwith as well...because its not 50 dollars worth of bandwith at the end of the day.
If you cannot create a MMORPG that is stupid easy to pickup and play your going to dig yourself a early grave.
As soon as the first shipments are fed ex'd out. Then again wal-mart doesn't care for release dates so you can easily see it on the shelf the day it rolls in.
Would you fine the biggest retailer in the world? I mean the DVD rack DOES need more space.
Yesterday UT2k4 was released via warez scene (could have been earlier, but its torrent seed popped up) and because i was curious to see how many people would actually download this game, so i became a peer (i legally own a copy of this game so the point of me downloading it for ware is irrelevant) and loaded up this wonderful bit torrent program called Azureus and for shit and giggles I just wanted to see how man people would be partaking in a 4.1 gigabyte download (it's a 6 cd game) and I just watched it, coming back every now and again...
13,000 people at that moment actively wanted to download this game.
Of course today the number is down to a low 9,000, but it just struck me as odd because 1) this game requires a serial number to actually have fun (as in play online) and 2) the game was 4.1 goddamn gigabytes and 3) there were no actual seeds at the time everyone wanted the game which means it was almost P2P. Azureus told me there were no seeds as of last night, but this morning there were 9. (A seed is someone who has the entire file and is continued serving it) I could only imagine how many people actually had the file and logged off....
It alos puzzles me because this particular game retails for 39.99 (with a 10 dollar upgrade coupon for pervious owners) and can be had at most places for 29.99 and you could still send in the same in box coupon for the previous version...which makes this game grand total of....19.99.
(Of course I'm not going to discuss the repercussion about the pirating but only the Means of distribution)
A FTP would just die under that kind of strain and there is no pipe that anybody outside a backbone could of ever provide for free. And to provide 13000 people with a 4.1GB file would even make the beefiest of steam content delivery weep for mercy.

Isnt there a zerg rush that must be taking place right about now?
Not a single question there addresses fair use. Or even the ability to use the HD DVD as i see fit.
saw this in a different article about Massive, Inc. and how this works. I hope the following is true:
Targeting features must be agreed upon with game developers, and usually require players to provide opt-in registration.
Oh that much is true, hidden in the EULA somewhere...

When I write in my livejournal.
"I NEED something that displays my crushing sadness while moping to some dashboard
B-(
Ah, that's it."

:(
Once he moved to Texas to be with that girl, everything went to shit
I don't care if I get modded down, I'm airing the dirty laundry.
I know, i'm still mad about it. It hurts to find out your journal is gone but NO WAY TO CONTACT HIM TO GET IT BACK. This makes me even more mad.
Now all he needs is the game to play it on ;)
THANKS for being a karma whore, Frys displays all thier SFF cases and mobos....
One AGP slot fool.
I'm surprised its shipping WITH one, opterons mobos almost always have Rage3d chips powering them.
You do know how much video ram is need to store those 16:9 screen sizes, right?
Ironic OSX is built on BSD....damn hippies
Give up on the MP3, go for AAC.
Well he would of said that if they altered his timecard, but they didnt and he was a good little mcjober.
There not much customer service anyway at McD, yell a number, pay, and wait. Geeze its like you guys expected them to suck you off or something!
Better to have a sucky sense of humor then none.
Oh wait this is slashdot, the domain of the superior geek. No laughs and sex.
Muggers generaly dont pat you down like a cop. Just hand them your ipod and wallet.... They never notice the ankle holster.
Well in america they dont look under your hood and only want pictures of the outside of the car ;)
And what kind of idiot tells the truth, anyway?
