What other software do you need if it is a secondary machine?
You won't need these for a start when buying a mac:
Mp3 player, dvd player, photo editor, movie editor, music editor, dvd burning software, internet browser, anti-spyware, anti-virus, word processor, email, instant messenger.
You already mentioned it, you get the kool aid, now shut up and wait for it!:)
Seriously, you can get linux for a mac and with a cleverly designed box. As this iBook gets older I might put linux on it, because at some point it isn't going to handle the newer os'es (Tiger already needs a 64meg gcard).
In anwser to your question, Linux at this stage doesn't have the more mainstream windows apps that the mac has. Thats an added bonus because you have that compatibility bonus without the day to day hassle of a windows machine..
It is also down to the ipod, apple wants the bigger marketshare and this could be the best way to do it. Since it is supposed to complement an existing system, power shouldn't be an issue either. However people will have a windows mentality and expect a $499 Mac to play DOOM 3 as does some PC's already do. This thing cannot be to slow or to fast.
What might be nice is if this thing is upgradable (other than the usual HD and memory), if one can upgrade an Xserve Gcard then I see no reason for this to be able to. But then the other consumer machines would need this ability, which they won't get as you need to go higher than that and get a Powermac. It would look weird having your lowest and highest models with that capability. I only mention it because it is another feature a windows user might expect.
They need to satisfy their intended market with more than just a low price (maybe?) if they want average pc users aboard the mac train.
People need to stop bashing the battery issue. You want to hear about battery issues? Look at the iPod's internal battery. Once that thing fries after about 2 years you can't recharge it (mind you, thats with any device sporting a rechargable battery) and any you have to pay $99 to have Apple replace it for you or go 3rd party for $49. The PSP I suppose in retrospect is close to being that bad if not worse. If I compare an mp3 player to a hand held games machine I'm making a lot of sense anyway. This is because I overlooked the fact that the PSP has a removable battery anyway unlike the ipod.
Like it, like it. Speaking of cheap mother fucking dads, mine got me a watch off price drop TV. What makes it worse is that he bought me a watch last xmas as well. They are not even stylish, they are those you buy because the price is right and you think they look good, as whats happened in my case. I'm gonna fucking tell this year as well. I don't even where them anyway, shows how much he knows!
Am I correct...

in thinking that Michael is not celebrating xmas? He seems to be doing his duty as a hardcore geek by staying here and posting us stories for us lonely buggers to read?
As an amature photographer, I wouldn't mind having one, I would love to keep seeing my work as I pass the digital frame doing my business. At the moment they are in a folder on an external drive just sitting there. No point using them for my desktop either because i'm always doing work.
On another level however, I wonder if they could be used in waiting rooms, it would certainly add variety in those mind numbing places.
However, I'd also want as little interaction with the device as possible, just upload the photos, configure how I would want them displayed and leave it. Making it the same 2 steps as with a normal picture frame (nailing it in and then setting up the picture to display). Anything else like useless software is a waste and takes everything away from the point of decorating your room. Just have a simple UI to upload the photos and be done with it, wireless would be nice for the picture uploads and a neat tidy power cable coming out from the wall behind it.
Also, we will never know if they picked up that ore shipment off the planet or how one SG team was to reinforce the atlantis crew. Considering it was a rescue mission, did you think (like I did) that there were to few people going on the mission, that one bounty hunter seemed to clear that ship of personal fast.
I did realise and also rejected your points. Do you not think this guy is going to realise the problems you mentioned? In any case, he hasn't even finished it yet and you're damning him for at least trying!
Why not reuse the craft for some extra funding, then bung it in a museam to inspire children with? It would also get more press attention and maybe more investors interested for those future projects. That way they can put the extra cash into the second craft.
I was brought up to never turn down a job, or cash as you never know when the next meal might come from, I woudn't in this case either if I was Burt.
I don't like the tone in your post concerning this mans efforts, at least he isn't on a public discussion board comparing another mans efforts with privately funded endevours.
Yes I looked at the links, they suck. Where are those cool things today helping us out, looks like they are still in the research phase even after 15+ years for some of them.

why is this flamebait? parent does have a point.
Yes, its amazing what winME can do when given a chance.
i managed about 12GB on a weeks trip to japan recently, but I also shot video with my camera as well. Close enough though.
He isn't, he's in a school with children reading books perfectly suitable for a man of his abilites.

You first, but you got to include your mum!
Like a balloon and something bad happens...
Thank you for those
Funny but a serious reply, if not wireless, why not power over ethernet or a firewire cable?
Is it an irony that you don't have any photos of this device that you built to show us?

Holy shit! Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I couldn't work out how the blurb was trying to spin it.
Okay, I understand now where you are coming from, fair point, glad you could see where I wasn't getting it the first time round.
That makes sense then...

Whats that dance game that comes with a mat, fat kids hate them but parents and social workers love?
They took away the pillows so the terrorists will have it rough on US airlines, they might think twice before pulling the same stunt again.
