I've never played the games, but I thought it was a pretty good movie (except for that utterly pointless and out of place bullet-time scene). Not scary, mind you, but I enjoyed watching it.
That'd be nice... unfortunately I have the feeling that it would be more a battle of the framerates than of the individual's skill. And now with the hyperrealism of the graphics, it finally COULD be an example of videogames causing violence. Remember how after Columbine they blamed Doom? Well back then their claims could be dismissed because Doom was a dos-based game with bad graphics that could hardly depict violence. Now, though... even the alpha is scary
That does make more sense:). I've heard that there was a modchip for the PSX that allowed any region game to be played, but still checked that it was a valid PSX game. Could this be possible on other platforms? I'm thinking, since Microsoft loses money on Xboxes, that maybe they themselves could sell such a chip for less than the cost of an import Xbox (though I'm sure people would complain about that too...). Problem is, with very little Japanese Xbox support I doubt there would be many games worth getting it for.
Personally, I don't see how stores could survive like that. Installing modchips to play pirated games - games that they SELL. I'd think there would be more profit in selling multiple games to each customer than one modchip and no more business aside from the occasional hardware purchase. I like the way the Gamecube works - a region switch can be installed to play imports without a modchip allowing pirated games, and there's even a disc-based import booter available now.
First off, I've never actually played Metroid Prime (but I will once I get the money for it!), however I know that it is NOT truly an FPS. It is more of a first person adventure/exploration game than anything else. I HAVE played Jedi Knight II on the Gamecube, and I found it very difficult to play. I'm sure, though, that if DoomIII gets ported to the Gamecube they'll find some way to make it awesome:)
I think it was probably an alpha version - the models seemed very "placeholderish" to me, and you have to take into consideration that the game is being developed to be fully playable on the lowest common denominator - the PS2. While a PS2- only game can be amazing, when the capabilities of all three consoles need to be combined, there can't be as much eyecandy since all three consoles have different hardware. Also, there didn't seem to be any antialiasing, which I'm sure will make it look better. Who cares about graphics anyway;)
Read the article, or any number of other articles about the sequels - the Matrix was MEANT to be a trilogy. They aren't stretching the original story, they're telling more of it.
Err, how is that a bad thing? No matter how bug-free the product is, there WILL have to be service packs down the road to fix security holes and add new "features" (hey, there might be something useful...)
It's "kinda annoying" that Apple didn't give you a then-unannounced, expensive program for free? You must have a remarkably reality-free life.
No, it's kinda annoying that we won't have access to some of these new features - bundled, royalty-free music and redefineable hotkeys, amoung others, would be useful in our environment.
lemme just call apple up and tell them to take it back, you ungrateful little wretch.
Whoa, calm down. I said "That's kinda annoying". I don't think that's bitching at all. Apple went out of their way in multiple instances for us that day, and I truly am thankful for it - it was awesome. Second of all, the cost is not much of an issue (private school), and we probably would have bought it soon anyway. We're a big customer of Apple (next year we'll probably have around 500-600 ibooks), and they gave it to us to show their appreciation. But, like I said, it's "kinda annoying" that the version we just got became old in 5 days, don't you think?
Just 5 days ago the I went to visit Apple in Cupertino with my highschool's tech club. At the end of our visit they gave us (the school) a freebie - a full copy of Final Cut Pro 3. Now there's a 4? That's kinda annoying...
In the latest version of ZSNES for windows (don't know about any other emus/platforms) Megaman X2 and X3 both work fine. That's true about SFA2 though (but the SNES version isn't that great anyway:P)
OTOH since the GC uses a nonstandard disc format, it *can't* also be used to play pirate games.
True for most consumers, but supposedly there is a device by Panasonic (I think...) called the "Q", available in Japan. It is a combination Gamecube/DVD player that I've heard can play backups. I don't have any reliable sources for that though, so take it at face value
I remember thinking someday we'd have anime quality 2-D games, now I guess I'll never see animation quality Street Fighter IX in an arcade. =/
And why won't you? Besides the (terrible) Street Fighter EX series, it has still been all 2d. Street Fighter SHOULD continue to be a 2d series - thats why I and so many others love it. You should check out the Guilty Gear series. Original characters, great animation, and a solid fighter.
They are there for the check, and not to provide anything that can be equated to a quality education
Since when are teachers there "for the check? Being a teacher has never paid well, especially considering the amount of work involved. And as an earlier response said, your grammar/spelling/punctuation IS very lacking - to me, that is much more important than being "ahead of the class" in mathematics.
I sincerely hope this is a joke. If you even read the question, it is EXACTLY about that toy, and there's even a link directly to it! Are you trying to trick mods into giving you a +1 Interesting, or what?
While I would certainly see something like this, I don't believe it could be pulled off as well as with traditional animation, or live action. For instance, in anime the characters have very expressive faces. I have been stirred emotionally many times. However, in a 3d rendered setting I doubt that it would "click" the way other forms do. Sure, the story is the most important part but showing emotion can be hard if the voices obviously "don't match" the models. An animated character has a level of ambiguity, where you can't exactly tell what kind of voice they would have. A 3d rendered person would have more of a distinct voice that would be expected of them, and likely not delivered. Begs another question, however: why would you do a drama in CGI anyway? In action films it is often used to pull off things that couldn't be done in live action, but a drama most likely wouldn't have many of these moments...
The fact that she was using Windows (most likely) didn't have much of an effect on her problem - there was a damn dent in the side of her machine. Find me an operating system that will work with broken hardware and I'll... admit defeat. Grudgingly. In my experience, it is not the computer the person is using, but more the computer common-sense (not to be confused with regular common sense). I have a grandparent with a Mac that is constantly confused, and another running Windows that knows how to do her entire routine without trouble.
There's actually a guide on how to do it right here. Seems kinda scary, but then again I haven't done any hardware mods before (but the thought of losing my archos is scary...). It's also possible to upgrade the RAM from the standard 4mb to 8 - reduces skipping as well as HD access. The only link I found for it is dead... but I remember reading about it before.
That's my point - FPSes are much more popular for online gaming than... whatever kind of game Myth is (haven't played it actually). Which makes it less of a surprise that Half-Life is still played in huge numbers today - "shooting people with shotguns" is soooo much cooler than hitting them with a sword anyway (at least that's the popular opinion of most CS players).
This isn't quite as impressive (it IS a first person shooter after all, plus the original company is supporting it), but Half-Life came out in 1998 I believe, and the user-made modification Counter-Strike is the most popular multiplayer FPS (perhaps game period? I don't know) in the world. Not bad at all

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't Doom III singleplayer only? I don't think there would be any netplay to speak of.
That does make more sense :). I've heard that there was a modchip for the PSX that allowed any region game to be played, but still checked that it was a valid PSX game. It's an old mac not running OS X. What's your point? (plus this is a troll I've seen a couple of times...)
But what about VCDs? Playable in most DVD players already. Plus they support scene selection and such :)
True for most consumers, but supposedly there is a device by Panasonic (I think...) called the "Q", available in Japan. It is a combination Gamecube/DVD player that I've heard can play backups. I don't have any reliable sources for that though, so take it at face value
You mean like these guys?
(though, I do agree with you)
