    It seems like it would be pretty trivial for a virus to re-write the modem CFG file to get back on the network.


    Hell, it might as well uncap the modem while it's at it too.

    I was thinking along the same lines.

    Background noise by itself is of questionable usefullness.

    If you encode steganographic text messaging into the noise, then you have something potentially very handy.

    Ok, very handy if you are either a terrorist, a drug dealer, or just generally paranoid.

    If you read further, there is mention of an additional $16-20 million that is assumed to have been accquired.

    Modern photographic lenses have special coatings to reduce reflections from the air gap between two lenses.

    For single lens cameras, no coatings are not that big a problem.

    For multiple lens cameras, it can lead to a lot of chromatic aberations.

    If these oil lenses can accept liquid optical layers, look out Karl Zeiss.

    I wouldn't be surprised if any authors pre-date Herbert with coming up with liquid lenses. Mr. Herbert is just the one that came to mind.
