The E70 is going to be out soon, and that's quite an upgrade from the 6820, not least because it's series 60 instead of series 40 so you can actually install programs properly. I'd definitely wait for it.
I watch video over 802.11b off an NFS mount all the time, it works great.
DVDs tend to be borderline with bandwidth (my WEP 802.11b connection can only handle about 4mbit in practice), but mpeg4/wma (which tends to be around 1-2mbit) works fine.
I guess I just haven't had any of those problems. Then again, I use vlc most of the time because it's what I used on Windows.
Yes, well, sane people do use other stuff, but the fact that totem-gstreamer is the default media player, in the state it's in, is a serious cause for concern.
Well, this "GNOME bloat" is coming to a KDE install near you!;)
I noticed when I tried out amarok, the other day, horrible:(. GStreamer + artssink, ultimate horror!
No, I think he probably means it can't play the video without skipping like crazy and dying often, the performance is many times worse than mplayer or vlc (or I suppose xine, but I don't use that). This being totem-gstreamer.
Totem-gstreamer also sucks for audio. From personal experience, playing ogg vorbis results in it dying with a nice little dialog box (GStreamer encountered a general resource error) if you use the cpu for anything else at the same time. (this being a 700mhz P3, entirely adequate for the media with any other OS/player)
It's typical horrible gnome bloat:(. I use and enjoy gnome, but this really is a framework that isn't ready for general consumption.
I personally think they could do it. I've got the original playstation discs here, over 400MB on each disk (out of 600-620) is movies. You could do the movies realtime.
Even without the movies you'd still have almost 600MB of data. The current maximum DS cart size is apparently 128MB, although I doubt that's a technical restriction.
At the end of the day, although I believe it could be done, it won't be. It wouldn't be anything like a straight port and I just don't see Square-Enix bothering.
Incorrect. Debian's new modular upkg-based installer is not remotely like Ubuntu's, which is a dream to use and has unbelievably good automatic hardware setup. Debian's "new" installer is crud.
A little drunk? He was HILARIOUSLY drunk. Very amusing.
I'm deeply disappointed about the lack of actual ponies.
This mistake should be promptly rectified lest slashdot lose its place as a respected technology news source.
Er... the 9200 is an almost direct descendent of the former top of the line 8500 part.
Dude, you need pixel shader 2.0 for shiny mode. So a radeon 9500/geforce 5200 and up.
This statement is so truly bizarre. Are you 12 years old?
I remember when mario 64 came out, it was a phenomenon, people were blown away, it retained the "wow" factor for years afterwards too.
Emulators were made with the express primary intention of playing it.
Mario 64 was without a doubt a killer app (game).
Picking the Xbox 360 as an example was not wise.
The RRP for most xbox games is £50... FIFTY POUNDS.
Sure, you can get them cheaper if you shop around, but let's look at Game, the nation's dominant game retailer:
PGR 3: 44.99
RR6: 49.99
CoD2: 49.99
And coming out soon:
GRAW: 49.99
BF2-MC: 49.99
Oblivion: 49.99
Personally I think that sounds like an excellent usage of screen space.
Also, Ion is not prehistoric.
Haha David Yarnton.
Way to demonstrate you're 100% out of the loop.

Whilst I don't dispute your reasoning I do think it might be a bit hard to accelerate a 1 kiloton mass to 1000000 km/sec...
Hint: the speed of light is 299792 km/sec.
No, that's why I use mpd and alsa :).
Oh dear, well that's your fault like the guy said.
It's not like you want to use totem-gstreamer, but if you do, apt-get install gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg Maybe gstreamer0.8-plugins too while you're at it.

I've been thinking about this very issue.

HTH, HAND.
You were speaking of VHS-C, one single type of analogue tape format, and hardly the most popular.
I didn't even know they still sold analogue camcorders.
Cool, can you tell me where I can buy one for minidv?
They already have.
One of the more interesting posts: http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/5/13/218
Arnd Bergmann works for IBM, btw.
It's a commuter suburb, many people who work in London live there.
Since approximately the beginning of the 19th century.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Thanks for that.
Now, if only it worked on my thinkpad x21. It already works, if by "works" you mean "produces horrible awful distorted sound on both ends".
I'll be happy when they introduce ALSA support.
