I never got rich, but I did learn some valuable leasons. Besides - I hear that most VC's will only invest if you have experience.

This is nothing new. Memory based drives have been proposed before, but the FA did not specify the price per meg. If I could compare if this is worth it (COST per Meg) vs. (Speed or BatteryLife) THEN I might buy it.
Of course with Moore's law in Economics, if you can wait 6 months, it will cost half as much.
Would these drive come with a CACHE for writing large blocks? What is the speed difference between FLASH drive, vs. other memory disk drives? Again - not enought info in the article.
I would buy it just to try Linux
But can this be real? I mean the LCD screen must be Black and White to sell for less than $100.
I do not know if this would be worth it (I would NEVER buy a Celeron), but the $100 price point is hard to ignore. I could get one for my Mom just so she could start using a computer, but if it costs me hours to fix, it may cost too much after all.

Where is all this money coming from? It seems the business model is to grab eyeballs so you can place ads. And now they are putting ads into RSS and Atom.
A search for CMS (Content Management Systems) / Bloog return several HUNDRED applications. It seems most use PHP/mySQL, and some even steal each other's code. This a new dot com Bomb waiting to happen.

The machines came with configured for Win98, but for some reason we purchased a big license for Win2K directly from M$
The NICs problem turned out to be an auto Negotiate problem with our Switch. Cuz Win2k was new, they would not let us turn off autoNeg.
Of course I should have just kept my mouth shut, or pretended to try to fix it, or ask for more support from Dell - the truth is I was just so pissed at the end run around by the sales guy I did not use my head
I STILL have a problem where I am the most technical person in some small client, but the dumb PHB with NO technical training goes against my suggestion. I have since tried to write emails being very explicit that this is not what _I_ recommend, but I am always the one that gets the shaft.
Oh Well - now I am a consultant and I get paid for overtime when the boss makes a dumb decision.

The system I picked was the Dimension, with the latest tech. But the salesman wanted me to buy the 'business optimized' OptiPlex. I pointed out that each unit was MUCH more expensive for the same power, he tried to sell me that new technology was not good for business - I should use 'proven' hardware (i.e. 1 year old chips at top prices).
I told him no thanks, please give me a price on 300+ Dimensions as I specified them. He did give me a price, but when I went to my boss to get the check, I found out that the salesguy called him and told him to but the OptiPlex! Then my PHB believed the vendor, and I eventually got fired cuz I would not support them. (The drivers for the network card would not support the latest Windows)

There are some helpful comments here I know can help my MS peers get off the ground - if only SOMBODY could mod the parent up!
My problem is that If I spend alot of my time developing some code to give away - what is to stop some jerk from stealing it and not giving me credit? NOTHING
Or for example - I am ONE developer. I write a new app. Some big company sees $$$, so has their developers use my hard work. There is NO guarantee that I will ever see any money.

The ONLY reason eBay is alive is because they the Walmart of auctions - they have the biggestest marketplace, so everyone else has go to them to sell.
It is not because they have any clue about what customer service is.
I have had quite a few friends loose money on ebay. When they filed a report - what did they get? A FORM LETTER saying "we can not help you...". Any yet ebay/paypal still collected THEIR fees.
There are a few good aution helpers, where they list, sell, and package your goods for you but they charge 40%!!!
EBay will be around for a while, but this move is an attempt to keeping growing in a market that is starting to die. Auctions used to be fun, but until somebody can offer a guarantee to protect the little guy, more people will just as soon buy at Walmart. And that is not a good thing.

IMHO The BIGGEST problem with Free OS is Forking. Say you work years developing some kewl new software. Then somebody with some bucks comes along and hires some developers to try to make it their own (i.e. STEAL it).
I am just a nerd that want to learn - when there are 30 different flavors of just *nix, it et me discouraged. I do not mind paying for some help, but now I find that the big distributor (RedHat) has changed the commands?
In the political arena, we line up behind one of two candidates (Do not look at me - I voted independent). We have to choose between the better of two evils, but if the forking continues, doesn't that mean that M$ will win?
Look- it's simple - What is the Price vs. Performance?
That is why I now ignore the MHZ and made the switch to AMD.

The problem is that sometimes I get telemarketing calls with a MACHINE at the other end and the pre-recorded message.
When their system detects that a human is on the line, it switches over to a person. I tell them that I am on the DO NOT CALL list, but it seems some places have found away around this law.
It seems the lawmakers have written the rules such that it is OK if THEY can call me. I was bombarded with 'vote for me' calls in October.
They might not be monitoring the call right when you call, but you can bet they keep every recording just in case they want to have their lawyers come after you.
I always thought we should put in a law that ASKS for explicit permision before they are allowed to record you.
As soon as a real person gets on the phone, I always tell them they do NOT have my permission to record me, and ask that they stop or give me a number to call where they do not record. You would be surprised how many companies do NOT have a procedure to not record.
I have more than 25 years experience using computers, so I consider myself VERY knowledgeable on computers.
However, we decided to install WordPress, and it seemed the best OS was to use a Linux distro.
I had NO IDEA how hard this was

Why should it be so hard to ask for somewhere to go to get a CD, put it in my drive, and have it install Linux, update/patch itself, and have everything work out of the box?

Here is a chance to HELP a Windowx person convert to Linux - I will do that on my current project installing WordPress, if someone could step me through it.
When Tivo came out, we were their only true competitor, but heir product was great. Our only way to grab subscribers was to make our box Free
Now everyone thinks they can grab a pice of the PVR market - even Microsoft with their Media Center Edition Xp.
Tivo is trying hard to patent everything they can to protect their turf - they should instead make a better product with cheaper fees.
Anybody else find this funny?
