    Or anywhere else for that matter. I still can't play many .wmv files on my 'amd64' build of Gentoo.

    with the exception that distance is not an issue, and you don't have to deal with telephone carriers (just non-functional software).

    We used to get our internet over the phone, now we get our phone over the internet.

    This was -exactly- the way the company I used to work for did their layoffs. The first round of layoffs wasn't too bad. The CEO explained exactly what was happening and why they were doing what they were doing. Then asked everybody to go back to their desks and those who were effected would be receiving an email. Those people were to assemble in such-and-such conference room for more information.

    Our second CEO wasn't so nice. He said "We're laying off # people. You know the drill." That was pretty disgusting.

    I was effected by the second round of layoffs. Got transfered to a company that then laid everybody else off for them.

    The channel which serves the media is now being controlled by the media. Just as bad as what some of the ISPs are doing these days. The free flow of information is dissapearing all around us, being capped off to increase profits.

    it's just called "foil tape", made from thin aluminum.

    I actually heard on the radio several months back that Duct Tape has been banned (at least in California) from use in ducting because it breaks down rather quickly.

    there is some good news here... some record labels (ie: Metropolis) are not members of the RIAA, and even allow webcasters to play their music!

    Fuck that, I was born and raised in the US, and now 3 Indians sit where my cubicle used to be.

    I have absolutly nothing against Indian people, but as a VOTING citizen of the U.S., I'd like to see our government make it so expensive for companies to hire foreign labor that it's completly infeasable.

    Put it on the ballot! let the people decide, not the corporate lobbyists.

    why would I want to buy and download a 128kb/s MP3? the quality would be horrible? who would dictate what bitrate they sell the file at?

    I still prefer to buy my CDs and encode them myself. That way -I- get to control how big my files are and how good they sound.

    my CD collection is approaching 500 now and I've found that the easist way to deal with them is to get (cds/264) case logic cd "wallets". (there more like binders). and then pick up a smaller one for the cds you listen to on a daily basis.
