This was -exactly- the way the company I used to work for did their layoffs. The first round of layoffs wasn't too bad. The CEO explained exactly what was happening and why they were doing what they were doing. Then asked everybody to go back to their desks and those who were effected would be receiving an email. Those people were to assemble in such-and-such conference room for more information.
Our second CEO wasn't so nice. He said "We're laying off # people. You know the drill." That was pretty disgusting.
I was effected by the second round of layoffs. Got transfered to a company that then laid everybody else off for them.
they have my support!

Hopefully Gentoo can succeed where other's have failed. I'm sick of saying "sorry, won't run on my machine"
never trust commercial "encryption" to be anything more than the magic decoder ring from your cerial box wrapped in a DMCA wrapper calling anyone that points out that its made of cheap injection molded plastic an information terrorist.
This scares me! The channel which serves the media is now being controlled by the media. Just as bad as what some of the ISPs are doing these days. The free flow of information is dissapearing all around us, being capped off to increase profits.
space is dangerous. war is more dangerous. war goes on every day on earth. millions have died for the cause of war. a couple dozen have died for the cause of getting humanity off this rock. I think a couple dozen casualties along the way is pretty damn good.
it's just called "foil tape", made from thin aluminum.
I actually heard on the radio several months back that Duct Tape has been banned (at least in California) from use in ducting because it breaks down rather quickly.
Fuck that, I was born and raised in the US, and now 3 Indians sit where my cubicle used to be.
I have absolutly nothing against Indian people, but as a VOTING citizen of the U.S., I'd like to see our government make it so expensive for companies to hire foreign labor that it's completly infeasable.
Put it on the ballot! let the people decide, not the corporate lobbyists.
Microsoft's greatest strengths have always been the ability to see which way the ship is headed, and when it turns out they're going in the wrong direction, to turn on a dime.
I have to disagree. They don't turn the boat, they turn the river.
my CD collection is approaching 500 now and I've found that the easist way to deal with them is to get (cds/264) case logic cd "wallets". (there more like binders). and then pick up a smaller one for the cds you listen to on a daily basis.
Or anywhere else for that matter. I still can't play many
with the exception that distance is not an issue, and you don't have to deal with telephone carriers (just non-functional software).
We used to get our internet over the phone, now we get our phone over the internet.
...that explains some things....
Or cheaper!
Low cost processors that have been proven in the marketplace.... sounds good to me!
...can i play warcraft3 on it?
...about "confusion in the marketplace" over DOS
This is a lame reply, but:
YES!

HP-UX on the desktop is just a dumb idea anyways.

Uhm, shouldn't this be a freshmeat story?
there is some good news here... some record labels (ie: Metropolis) are not members of the RIAA, and even allow webcasters to play their music!
I'd like to see more of this.

nobody ever said that being evil requires you to be always wrong. occationally, the bad-guy has to be right, like it or not.
why would I want to buy and download a 128kb/s MP3? the quality would be horrible? who would dictate what bitrate they sell the file at?
I still prefer to buy my CDs and encode them myself. That way -I- get to control how big my files are and how good they sound.
i would like to add that the controller that ships with the X-Box is horrid.
