there are several PCB revisions of that motherboard, you must of been lucky enuff to get one of the newer ones. the earlier ones ARE unstable and it's fairly common knowlage that their problematic, especially with linux.
personally i hate nforce chipsets (via for me) and i hate thier gfx cards too (ati for me)
one of the best platform games ever made XEvil basically a kill-everything platformer, but with some comedy value. works on both win/nix and dosn't require a fantastically good machine. networking etc etc etc. (strangle your cat)
cd emulation programs have very good, legitimate uses.
for example, i have quite a lot of sample cds (for music production), to swap them in and out every time i wanna grab 1 sample off them would be a real pain in the arse, so i just have them all bin/cued on my hdd and use them through daemon or alcy.
for this game to refuse to run on machines with these programs installed is absurd.
if you have a lot of games (legit or otherwise) then swapping cds in and out all the time is gunna be a pain, also cds get damaged easily. i'd rather iso all the cds and keep the physical copies in a safe place so they don't get arsed.
as far as i know, the ipod uses FAT for it's filesystem, and is why it will appear as a drive when connected via usb/firewire.
many of the other portable mp3 players, do not appear as a drive, and have to use an external utility. the main reason for this is because they do not use the FAT file system. these patents may well be the reason why the other manufacturers opted out of using FAT. apple won't be too happy at this, but the ipod sucks so i couldn't care less.
yeah, my XP2200+ hammers the p4 3.06ghz's in the cubase SX benchmark. some people would claim that the chipsets (via) used by amd boards are bad for audio, but this is crap. via chipsets are fine for audio, they may have been dodgy once upon a time but not anymore.
windows messenger 4.7.2009 works fine:) my version of it dosn't have any advertisting on it, altho a mates does which i think it due to that silly MSN addin that lets you view profiles and crap. the msnmsgr 0.5 extension for firebird/mozilla dosn't work.
the human ears and brain are pretty inaccurate anyways, if you concentrate you can change the sound you hear, like change the pitch you precieve of snares in some music. you can also filter out parts and eq it kinda. so doing a comparison can be very tricky.
for mp3, 128 is bare minimum. having tested ogg vs. mp3 quality on a lot of my own stuff i make (i know how it should sound), a 64kbit ogg sounds virtually indistinguishable from a 128kbit mp3. no point encoding at 128kbit if 64kbit does the job just as well as 128kbit in another format.
you could recreate a file with just an md5 sum, however it would involve brute forcing it. now if a 6char password takes quite a while... 650mb should take you till around about the time of the end of the universe. there would be several other combinations of bytes which could produce the same md5, the bigger the size, the more likely of two sets of bytes producing the same md5.
not every mp3 comes from the same source, there must be thousands of people who all rip the same track, thus creating thousands of diffrent mp3s, most with their own unique md5sum's, then you get the people who rename the id3 tags, and the people that burn to cd which gets passed around and ripped somewhere else. oh and not forgetting borked/aborted transfers, where mp3s are missing a few bytes at the end.
"The source for nycfashiongirl's sound recordings was not her own personal CDs," the RIAA's lawyers wrote.
and what if she was the original ripper and the mp3s were downloaded by nasty nasty men with too many shoes? altho i'm not sure if that puts her in a better or worse light.
and of course, people that download tracks which they own simply because it's easier (especially when vinyl is concerned)
their idea is flawed, sounds like a scare tactic to me.
just another example of why the technologically retarded shouldn't be allowed to make new (IT based)? laws. they really should consult someone who knows what they're talking about before passing stupid laws. cookies are not evil, but the media seems to think they are. people (sites) who misuse cookies are evil.
the vasty majority of music (whatever genre) has digital involved at some point in the production process, usually during mastering. if i buy a piece of music that i like (various electronica), chances are more than likely that it's been produced at 44.1khz, 16bit stereo. so i stick my cd in and i'm getting essentially a studio copy, and will be excactly the same as the original (unless it's been buggered about by the labels engineers before pressing). if i buy that music on vinyl, there will be loss of quality. it may or may not sound better on vinyl, but the quality is still degraded.
sound stored on an analog medium is not reproducable excactly, just as if someone sings or drums, they will never achieve that excact same sound. so while sticking some analog sound onto a cd may be lossy, sticking it on vinyl is just as lossy but in a diffrent way.
it wouldn't, as the maximum frequency is 22.050hz. as the ear can't hear above around 20khz, this is fine. the point i was making is that i would imagine a vinyl needle would shit itself if it encountered a high amp, low freq square wave. a cd however, would handle it fine.
yeah, the 'warmth' that the audiophiles talk about is the inability to reproduce the correct stuff, vinyl tends to make some of the high freqs disappear, much like running the sound thru a lowpass filter. vinyl is lossy, much like mp3.. u pretty much can't store analog sound in a lossless medium. while vinyl can sound better (in the same way that pressing the loudness button on my amp makes it sound better) than digital, when talking about quality being how acurate to the original it is then digital wins.
to dismantle old harddrives and use them to make 7200rpm dirty ladies toys, the requirement of having it attached to a psu might not go down so well tho.
i'm in the uk and at the moment about 98% of the spam i get is from outside the EU (read: america). perhaps this is because EU people are content with the size of their penii. it depends what they would make illegal really, would they make it illegal for eu based companies to send spam or make it illegal for spam to sent from the eu. still, it's a start anyways and if we eliminate spam then good. what is defined as unsolicitated tho will have to be looked at.
Sennheisers are great headphones, i got a pair for producing music with. far better quality than any other headphones i've used, even my damn good technics don't compare. for high frequencies they are much better than speakers. plus they do subbass... sort of.
people always complain about how compressed formats sound all messed up and slurred high frequencies. yet few complain about the lossyness of vinyl, they just say it's 'warmth'. personally i dont like either sound quality, altho vorbis seems the best of the lot.
i certainly have never paid for any pirate software, i thought that was generally the point. even the ppl that sell cd's at markets and online, i highly doubt any of that goes towards terrorism. unless of course pirate's are now branded terrorists.
the only intel system (p4) i used (work machine) managed to kill every harddrive i put in it after about 2 days (4hdds in total). switched to amd, not a single problem since. i've been using amd since the k6 200mhz, and have never been disapointed with them. my VIA KT400 chipset has no problems either btw.
either they mean there gunna use 10.x.x.x or one of there many DoD class A subnets (i think they got 7 or 8), they do not need 16.7million * 7 ip addresses. this is why there's a global ipv4 shortage, cos the bastards at the DoD and other places own most of them.

i would imagine the reason why Redhat use ext* by default and avoid resier is probably because the main guy behind ext development works for redhat.
do a test yourself then, come to your own conclusions

now i just sit back and wait for them to spider my ftp and send me a notice, then i can have the joy of telling them to piss off.
hopefully this will fuck them off a bit.
