It appears as though he did have a sign stating exactly that. Bottom line in these sorts of scenarios is that the police are the ones with the guns. I applaud this guy, because the video tape will show exactly who was doing what and I have a strong suspicion that the cops are at fault.
There's lots of information on the internet that could be better represented with another dimension of display.
Imagine if every time you downloaded a file, your computer would ping/tracert each of the available mirror sites, and display a nice solar-system type display that would instantly tell you where you'd get the fastest download.
It could aggregate more information and allow you to process it more quickly than scanning the TLDs, ping times, and tracert hops for each site.
I'm sure once the average pc has 3D hardware we will see more useful apps being developed that incorporate 3D in a meaningful way.
People should type essays without a spell checker if they are learning to write/spell. If they are writing an essay because they need an essay to be well written, then a spell checker should be a supplement to good spelling skills. A spell checker would only be as useful as a calculator for learning math problems - you can check you work, but if it does the work for you then you don't learn.
I don't understand... At some point between the uber-DRM'd WMA files and your ears the music is converted to an analog signal - Why can't it be captured at that point in a more open format?
Why is everyone approaching this as a censorship issue? Why not create the domain, and allow any websites to put their content on it if they so choose.
No non-porn website would use it because they would be blocked by lots of filters, so then all we would need is some sort of incentive for porn websites to use it.
When did the idea of a.xxx domain transform into the idea of forcing all porn sites onto said domain?
Just because you like and use all the obscure formatting, viewing, display and 'proofreading' features in MS/Open/Star Office doesn't mean there's not a huge user base that has no knowledge of and no use for any of it and who could get by just fine with Wordpad. Furthermore, the ability to do so on a document that can be accessed from anywhere, or by multiple people at once, would be far more appealing than any bloated Office Suite(tm) to the vast majority of people using MS office.
My moms hard drive sh!t itself the other day, so after we got a new one I offered to put Linux on it for her. She's a total novice, so I used Hoary as opposed to Dapper, but so far its doing everything she needs: Firefox, Thunderbird, Frozen-Bubble, and even FirstClass, her school district's email/groupware client has a linux beta available. Slowly, Linux is penetrating the absolute beginner market.
I don't use sudo, but it's safer than logging in as root for day to day activities. I run ubuntu but I usually disable sudo, and set a root password. The whole purpose of have the separation of powers is that your regular user account is 'expendable' and thus the password will necessarily be less secure than the root password. Also, on several occasions, vmware kernel modules have broken sudo in a way that I cannot use it until I reboot the system. I always sign in as a user, and when I need root, I open a terminal and su for the entire session.
There is no correct answer to this question. If you put out a crappy product ahead of the competition, nobody will use it - look at the hordes of expansion packs that are released for every successful game. If you wait too long, everyone will have settled for what was available. The bottom line is that companies need to schedule a release date and meet it. If they can't get the product out the door with the original quality on the original timeline, somebody is not doing his job and the marketplace will reflect that.
I have had 2 MD players and I am a big Sony supporter because of them. If you take a second look at the article, you will notice it says a regular MD can be upgraded to 350MB with the new tech, but the new discs hold one gig of data. The idea of 'infinite' storage, I believe, makes reference to the fact that you can take as much music with you as you can physically carry.
Also, I can vouch for the battery life - my current MD player, the 410 model i believe, will run for a solid 50-60 hours of playback on a single AA battery, as opposed to an iPod which requires a proprietary dock just to recharge.
I think this article is right on the money - Sony has killer hardware, and yet the MD doesn't do well because the SonicStage software is extremely difficult to use.
I think it makes alot of sense, depending on how it's implemented. It doesn't make sense to restrict all adult content to the.xxx domain, because then there will be a huge argument over what constitutes adult content and therefore must be limited. Nobody will want their content to be on the new domain, because access to it will be restricted. On the other hand, if the domain was implemented for whoever wanted to use it, maybe with some sort of incentive for putting your 'adult' content on the.xx domain. Perhaps increased priority in adult search engines? Some sort of master directory? I think it's a plausible and valid idea, but not as an attempt to cordon off the entire adult section of the internet to make filtering easier.
Nintendo has always been about innovation. I still play Mario 64, and it came out ten years ago. Why? Because it's a fun game. As for this article, it really doesn't say much.
Although I haven't read the book in question, I have used Ubuntu and Kubuntu, and the only part that wouldn't apply to you would be (going on the review info) section 3 (6 chapters) on the actual gnome interface, and the replacement windows apps. Installation, command line, advanced administration etc. are all exactly the same.
Ubuntu and Kubuntu are very similar, and you can even turn one into another with a single bash command.
This is completely true. Blizzard has a reputation for high quality games - Warcraft, Warcraft II & III, and Starcraft were revolutionary in their respective times. Blizzard's devs aren't superhuman, they just have very high standards. I applaud them for axing this game. I am a huge fan of the Starcraft RTS, but just because they can carry the universe over to a FPS doesn't mean they should. Holding their company to standards high enough to cancel a game this far into development just restores my faith that they will release a really killer game somewhere down the line.
I hope the parent comment was meant as sarcasm.
Yea, those damn freeloading 3rd world citizens should learn to produce their own antibodies for fatal diseases. Er...
Sony is shooting themself in the foot in the exact same manner as with Beta vs VHS. The Sony NetMD is an excellent piece of hardware, but the proprietary codecs associated with it make severely limit it's market penetration due to the difficulty involved with moving audio to and from the device on windows. Not to mention the secret encoding algorithm makes reverse engineering the software (ie. what's required for a linux client) basically impossible. Sony makes top notch electronics, but if they don't learn from their own mistake, they are going to sink themselves all over again.

The term we prefer is 'liberate'

It's always bothered me the way the vonage commerical announces pronounce VOIP
I can't see Vista putting Webroot out of business any time soon, as the newly released MSN 9.2 includes a free version of the SpySweeper software.
I'm sorry, but if it offends you, don't watch it.
Some of the most fun I've had gaming was at LAN parties with Serious Sam 1 & 2 co-op. Good old fashioned FPS with tons of enemies.
The gnome people... ha ha ha... I just got it

I've been using flight 4 for a few weeks, albeit with E17, and it's not ready for production IMHO.
I don't know why nobody pointed this out before, but having Windows in offices definately does not improve productivity. *Ducks*
