    I know it measures current but it reports kWh for which it needs to know the voltage.

    In any case I can clear this up since I had a quick look through the online manual. It turns out that you specify the voltage in the setup so you can use it in the US. The default currency is even dollars! Unfortunately, they're going to be about $150 to import so I doubt they get many US orders.

    ...we can argue over the differences between wattHour and Volt-Ampere-Hours
    If you know about power factors you will know that current clamps can't tell you the difference :-)

    The site is terrible but I like the idea.

    Two things wrong with them at the moment IMHO: too expensive and no history display.

    For the whole house you need a current clamp meter with a remote display.

    Don't know if they have one for US voltages though.

    It's a side effect of companies using a predictive dialler. Basically they consider that their agents time is worth more than yours.

    But they do a completely different job. My Router controls where traffic can go (eg. not to ad servers) and where it can enter my lan from (hosts that were contacted first).

    My software firewall controls what applications are allowed internet access. I've firewalled off IE and Windows Explorer and also that stupid dog that finds files and silently phones home to sa.microsoft.com

    Using google.ro seems a bit extreme. Why not turn all cookies into session cookies in Firefox (allow sites to set cookies:until I close firefox) and use Internet Exploiter to read your GMail?

    BE CAREFUL! Deselecting the WGA download means it won't be offered to you again but it will be offered to every user who has admin rights until they install it or deselect it too.

    Daft question but how does it integrate with WGA? Presumably the PCs 'need' to have their licence status checked?

    Not deliberately trying to be cynical but manufacturers always blame third party batteries. Sony are particularly vocal. What this shows is that ANY LiIon battery is capable of catching fire and always will be until they remove the Lithium from them.

    I agree, this kind of study happened in the UK just before they introduced harsher penalties for phone driving.

    If it was so bad, why do they let the Shuttle crew talk to mission control whilst trying to land then?!

    except it's not affecting the pirates. they crack it and it's business as usual

    ...and in the mean time, legit users like half of Proctor and Gamble's installed PC base get hit with false notifications accusing them of piracy. This is going to get interesting.

    it's more likely to happen with a Conservative government in power.

    I agree that a right wing governement would be more likely to go down this route but then how on earth did this get through Spanish Parliament with the Spanish Socialist Workers Party in power?!

    I experienced this at Epcot... in Orlando.

    Me too, there is a thriving business in Florida selling used tickets. The people on the gates of Disney simply wave you through if the fingerprint machine flags a problem. The machine let me through even though I bought a dog eared ticket from some dude in a hot-air-balloon shaped kiosk.

    Just one more point:
    backed by $130 million in VC cash
    Holy Shit! The (failed) Beagle Mars lander only cost 40 million GBP ($71 million) to launch and was a much better idea IMHO.

    they deactivated my Yahoo Mail account for 'non-use' (and deleted all my email).

    If you pick a category of ads for Yahoo to send you, they will also let you use then POP3 to retrieve your email, which counts as a login. I haven't actually logged into my Yahoo webmail account for years but daily connections from my email client keep it from being deleted.

    Sure, match any of the following expressions:

    If you want to find the host of a flash ad, right click the ad and select settings. On the storage tab it will tell you the hostname that served the ad. That's how I matched casalemedia to those annoying 'stomp the spider' ads that seem to have worked around the firefox popup stopper.

    Or you can go the whole hog and get Mikes hosts file but this won't fit on my DSL router.

    Since most large ad serving companies use third party cookies to track you around the web, this means that you can block most ads by blocking relatively few hosts.

    I've put about 8 in my DSL routers Web Filter page and that's it sorted for my whole network. I'm quite happy to read Google ads as they target them much more effectively. I've even clicked one or two!

    I have to confess to writing this from a warezed copy of XP Pro (although I did actually buy a licence for it with the PC when it was new and flattened it after seeing all the crap that came pre-loaded onto it).

    I instantly spotted the WGA tool and declined the installation - and guess what. I now have a computer that runs faster then those with legal copies as there is one less program running all the time. And my internet connection is faster too without all the daily checks going back and forward to Redmond. Cool.

    So it's Windows Genuine Disadvantage then...
