  1. What would Steve do? on The Economics of Free · · Score: 2, Interesting

I love my iPhone, but it did'nt come for free. In fact it cost alot. iTunes is free but you have to have a computer to run it. To get my phone unlocked so it would work in Australia cost money. But I still prefere it over a free equally as good phone on a big contract. Alot of things that are 'free' actually cost you money in the long run. I think in the near future there will be an anti free backlash of people paying the big sum up front and foregoing all the greif of continuing cost. I can also see certain manufacturers catering for them by actually creating products to last and be well designed for their job. But of course making money is where businesses put all their efforts to. So you will have to spend money to forgo continuing cost or in other words, It will cost alot (but still be cheaper) to not get things for free which actually are not really free....um, yeah.

There must be alot of dissalusioned ex members in Sydney cause we get them in our second hand store all the time. Lots of fun to play with the trick being to adjust your squeeze while looking at the meter. From what i can tell its just a fancy galvanic skin response meter that is heighly tunable. If you want to use it semi seriously you could see your reaction to questions you ask yourself, self diagnosis with a bit of force feedback. If you want to have fun with the poor meter drivers on open days that they have, think of horrible things when they ask you about your relationship with your kids, and nice things.. etc. Either way its an excellent device for practicing lying and therefor acting, no wonder TC and JT are into it. We have 1 or 2 regular buyers who get them all, no questions asked. Could be higher ups who dont want to make a fuss.

Triamond is half a hexagon, and Di is 2, and it sounds alot like Diamond so woman will want it. I would not market it as man made especially but as "The rarest most pure substance in the universe" and let them draw their own conclusions. Anyone know how hard it is os might be on the Mohs scale? Or even its electrostatic absorbtion rate cause thats how most jem testing is done. Well, up to the top 1% of the market anyway, and then its gamma absorsion etc.

****I guess that covers much of the Mac PC debate really. Mac sees a problem or hears complaints and makes a solution. PC's make money. The "fanboi" populace help to solve perceived problems as well. Funny how there are so many Mac fans for a 3% (soon to be 5%) market share? Also funny is how PC users either "Work" on their computers or "Play games" and mac users seem to get the work done but they have fun doing it?

If you read cartoons - (comics, Paper) and you agree with me that the earlier version of something has precedence then you will find that my version (aprox 1980) is probably the bassis of that scene in the jungle Book movie. It was the 3 ducks who are the Nefews of Donald Duck being Hewie , Dewie and Lewie. It was a comic that had Scrooge McDuck getting one of his Money Boxes robbed and Goofie eating a goober berrie to have super powers if that helps. Good effort though.

  18. Comical on Australian TCO Study: Linux Wins Again · · Score: 0

It reminds me of the kids cartoon which has the 3 little ducks sitting round, playing, saying to each other in turn " I don't know Louie, what do you want to do?" , "I don't know Dewie, What do you want to do?" round in a circle. Except this time It's " I dont know if I should go against MS and earn more money for my company, What are you going to do?" etc...

What about a piece of shear genius showing most if not all OS's , how much they cost (initial and licences per year) and how much they cost or save in terms of productivity over time. I can guarantee you the saving of inital cost is only important to some companies but only in relation to the gains made by happier faster workers who can actually do thier work. Thats where the money is.

First I'd like to say that there has been a record amount of interest in this post. (dont mod me down, I can't help being disapointed in a posibly world saving subject being ignored in favor of less important subjects)

There was a project some years ago in Australia where the heat difference between (one of our) desert surface and pipes/heat exchange buried underground was going to power a whole lot of engines. I'm not positive but I think they were Stirling engines that had been changed in some way (possibly day and night running- desert cold at night). They got to the stage of cupple of dozen in a test area to show efficiency workability etc. then nothing. Googling it doesnt show much. Rumors of state govt being bought out by the local energy companies which rezoned and shut them down. The usual Nexus style hippies chanted conspiracy, maybe it just wasnt as efficient as it could have been at that time.

Anyway, plenty of room and plenty of heat and cold differentials in the desert(s). Just something bothers me. Wouldnt the loss associated with transporting the energy back to where it is needed (suberbia, industrial and city use) by leakage make it not sustainable? [In Australia desert in center, cities/living areas on edges]

All this springs more questions. What are the efficiency ratings of other energy storages such as spliting water into Hydrogen and Oxygen to be stored separately and recombined when needed to make combustion engine generate power?

  21. Re:which Grade? on Is The 'CSI Phenomenon' Good For Science? · · Score: 0

I thought we addressed the issue of killing killers a long time ago. Just look at such films as Clockwork Orange in which the 'poor misunderstood' killer is retrained using new technology. So what if the moral of the movie was 'new technology works but poorly directed is bad' or even ' You can take the killer instinct out of a killer but you cant take it out of society' It still made very valid points. I say "hold their eyes open and play Bach till they scream" then retrain their brains to be servile automatons for the good of society. Serve as a constant reminder to anyone thinking of killing much more than not seen electric chair or non painfull injection.

Babies can be cute (I've got 2) but can sevearly cut into your GTA: San Andreas play time, so I can really SIMpathise with newly pregnant moms wanting to do the right thing and give their foetuses to genetic engineers to help make the next gen of cyborg fighters even better. Who knows, they might even cure a few diseases along the way, and cord blood is really tasty to a kid dying of Leukemia.

Besides dont the kids who grow up not having been wanted as a baby, turn into societys monsters and kill people. So situation 1 affects situation 2 and Vica Versa in many ways, thus continuing the cycle that is life or death as the case may be.

Also, inteligence being predominately passed on the mothers side means that moms who are stupid enough to get unwantedly pregnant are more likely to bring the national average down in the long run. Then you would have societies choosing 4 more years of no brains. Don't talk about brain drain, talk about genetic brain dilution.

My answer is to zombify killers to help work in abortiion clinics & GM labs- Problem solved. Maybe then the trains will run on time.
