After the 5th layoff, I said "screw it". Not going to work around the clock 24/7/365 saving the bosses ass anymore when the payment is a pat on the shoulder and being escorted out of the building because some dickhead decided to send your job overseas. I'm now back in school and completely fed up of the rotten business IT has become.

  7. In my humble opinion... on The State of Laptop Linux In 2005 · · Score: 1

Seriously, if you want a *NIX laptop, get an iBook or a Powerbook where everything just works. On the positive side, I've been using an IBM T41 laptop wise SuSE 9.1 Pro exclusively for a year and a half now for work (I do Windows/Linux SA stuff), and I have had very, very few issues. As always, though, workarounds have to be made for certain in-house 'business critical apps' that will only work in WINE or IE... Linux on a laptop is great. But not as great as OSX on my iBook...

  10. Whoa, flashback... on The State of Linux Gaming · · Score: 1

As I remember, we said exactly the sametime four years ago too, when Loki started porting and selling Linux ports... I haven't noticed much of an improvement. In fact, since Loki shut down, Linux gaming has gotten less coverage than before. Loki could at least push out their ports quickly. The few companies still porting gamesfor Linux are too slow, and can't seem to get licenses for any of the bit names in gaming. The exception is Icculus. Without him, Linux gaming would be an even sader story than itis today...

  19. Java is simply bad on Why is Java Considered Un-Cool? · · Score: 1

Java is uncool for many reasons:
    - When it first came out, there were memory leaks ALL over the place.
    - Java is still sluggish.
    - Most Enterprise-level Java apps are really, really poorly coded, hangs often and are extremely sluggish.
    - There are STILL memory leaks ALL over the place. - Java is overused.

Cut back on the gaming. One of the reasons I recently left my SO was because of her non-stop LARP'ing. (Oh, and the LARP'ers she fucked, off course.)

Anyways, don't patronize the SO with Zoo Tycoon. From my experience, girls are not all for that cutsey-wutsey stuff we think they are. They like to smash baddies and monsters with a giant sword just like the rest of us. And also, they like the social aspects of such games. So my advice is: cut back on gaming before she blows your non-gaming buddy, and test her on EQ, DAoC and the like...
