I hereby stand corrected, it sounds like a few of my assumptions were incorrect.

Seeing as the quality is better than standard radio, I'm not sure what your complaint is. Unless, of course, you are a music elitist who refuses to listen to mp3s unless they are 192 VBR -ape. ;)

I'm a Baton Rouge resident, so I can only partially understand where you're coming from.(For non-locals, Baton Rouge is a 30-45 minute drive from NO) I second that gaming is a good way to take your mind off things. Also going to heartily second that the people are great. When friends come in from out of town, the first destination isn't a museum, or the Aquarium of the Americas, it's just "New Orleans." The entire damn city is awesome, the fun literally never stops.
I'm going to read through the sample of the sourcebook and pray that they managed to grab the spirit of new orleans, and not just bourbon street/mardi gras. Ooh, and I also hope they managed to get some locals(from different ways of life) on board to help them out, so that they get things from multiple perspectives.

That kicks ass man, you are a lucky, happy man. I guess I should specify that my advice mainly applies to those in college, since girls don't realize geeks are good people until they are about to graduate. In saying that you need to go stealth, I should have clarified that you don't keep it bottled up forever, you just introduce it to them gradually, so one day you are just another cool dude who likes computers, and the next, they are screaming at you for not keeping them alive in a WoW instance :)

And this preceeding series of comments shows that, despite the fact that geeks could be better lovers, far too many are sitting at home in their basements.
You poor, poor bastards. Any geeks reading this, if you are still in college, try dressing in non-black, non-nerdy tshirts, join a fraternity, get a social life, and become a stealth geek.

Eh, don't feel bad about it. I played for about 2.5 years casually(99-late 01), and barely hit 46. No kids, just a girlfriend and pretty decent social life. Now that I'm back in college/working fulltime, I have no time for gaming. I wish I hadn't had to cancel my city of heroes account, that was a pretty fun game over the summer.
