Turns out that a lot of the textbooks for sale on Half.com are the international versions. I managed to get all but 1 of my textbooks there for at least $30 less than my bookstore was charging. My ELEC 305 textbook was almost half as much. They were softcover, though. So that probably contributed to the price as well.
Wish I had thought of getting multiple copies and selling them, though.
" They have zero information on what kinds of files will be available and what quality they will be."
I have a feeling it'll be WMA. If you look at the bottom of the front page you see that it requries "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher, Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher, Internet connectivity."
... to go back to the "Page best viewd in" messages on the bottom of pages. But this time with a little link to Firebird. If people start coding for the standards-complient browsers instead of IE, people might realize what they're missing out on. Or just get frustrated (and/or curious) to the point of installing it.
I signed up for the free trial and downloaded their free 50 in 2 days... $.25 a song is definetly a bargin, but it's such a drastic move from where they once were...
Shortly after I signed up for the Do Not Call list through the website, I began recieving calls (about 4 calls since around Sept 1, I believe) from AT&T about getting long distance service. Or I was eligable to recieve a phone card. Or something. I wasn't really listening. Since I live on a college campus there's really no reason for them to be calling.
Countless critical updates in the past 2 months alone and STILL... they're showing more concerin for a flashy product rather than a quality and secure product.
"A critical flaw has been discovered in Windows ATM Edition in which customers whose PIN ends in 4 can execute arbitrary code by means of a buffer overflow."
On the last RIAA article I posted a list of over 50 sites that host indie music. Any reference to "free" or "not free" is in regards to artist signups. But it kinda got overlooked. Hopefully it won't this time.
Uh.... [karma_whore] IN SOVIET RUSSIA, music downloads you!![/karma_whore]
Slashdot wouldn't let me post the list (too few characters per line, apparently), but if you check here there's a listing of indie music sites. A couple on the list are indie band resources, but I think nearly every site on that list has free music to download. Any reference to "Free" Or "Not Free" on that list is in regards to artist signups.
Just like every other idiot who's tried to place the blame on video game makers.
I don't know why some people don't realize that there's got to be something seriously wrong in a kid's head when he wants to go out and imitate killing scenes from video games. And that blame does not transfer to the video game maker. Just as the blame does not transfer to the maker of the gun the kid fired. If you consider how many people play/have played GTA, and then consider how many people commit violent acts "because of" GTA, you're looking at such a miniscule percentile that any accusation toward the game makers for "casuing" the violent acts to occur becomes moot.
... that a government used proprietary software as opposed to something commercial. No doubt, every government has some programmers on hand so how is this any different? It's just on a larger scale.
If anything, this is competition at its best. And if you want it done right, you've got to do it yourself.
But even given the [vastly remote] possibility that the melody he had played wasn't 100% original, would he not still have rights to the recording of it?
I can back up how much WMA's "DRM-by-default" sucks... my bandmate did a quick recording to and ripped it to WMA with WMP (he doesn't know better). He sent it to me to hear and no matter what I did, it would not play. WMP kept giving me some sort of "license" error. An original recording, owned and copyrighted to him... and I couldn't hear it.
Of course... nobody's forced to use WMA either (yet). But still...
As much as I believe the RIAA (and any copyright holder for that matter) has the right to defend their copyrights and the copyrights of the people they represent, they know damn well that these kids don't have $50,000. Hell, that amount of money could well ruin people's lives, especially when in college. At the same time, that doesn't justify such blatant copyright infringement but shit... send a C&D, or have their internet turned off or something.
Putting that money toward maintaining and expanding existing shelters? Or putting that money toward getting homeless people off the street and into jobs? Or... anything that may actually be useful?
'could create a security and privacy risk.'
In other words, don't be surprised when someone (read: RIAA) has been snooping on your activities in said program.

WASTE perhaps? (I don't know all the details of WASTE but it sounds kind of like what you're intersted in.)

Won't be relaunched for long...
Another excuse not to move.

Uh
That ought to work.

Go foot the bill for a band's studio session, then come talk to me about the "free exchange of art."

Will it run Linux?

Gimp is another...
God forbid they should make it so people need to buy their product. Welcome to capitalism.
