A press spokesman for microsoft declared that Microsoft 7 year undisputed record, and title of "Biggest Pisstakers of The Year" had finnaly gone.
"We just could compete with the SCO Board" He was heard to say "Their tactics have been unbelievable! There are a lot of people, here at Microsoft, who are very unhappy - with alrights we should have thought of this"
His comments were into SCO latest tactic in the We-are-on-a-loser-but-our-share-options-are-rising -so-we-can-bail plan. The reason Microssoft is unhappy is becuase of SCO's tactic of getting developers to do all the work for them, with out paying, and the altering the licensing so apparently claiming the work as there own. Intersting in any other case this would be simply called "theft".
As the Microsoft spokesman summed up the anger and frustration many people at Microsoft feel, "why could we think of that - it was shear brilliance! Think of all the money we could save. Heads will role because of this"
Also today the Microsoft announced their latest offering. "In the world of computing", the spokesman said "there is a need for reliable, effective, cheap, stable, secure computing. It has to be said that our latest offering have fell a little way short. So it our pleasure to announce the release of 'Mircosoft Lin++'. It is a fully compatible Linux operating system, that only costs $129 per user licence".
....but is't the US the country whose President actually received less votes that the loser - try telling the people who voted for the "loser" that their votes matter!
See the _main_ problem is the graffetti undertaken by the polar bears. Some of it is really good - the trouble is they can only get their paws on white, cfc based, spray paint.
If you check out the Nasdaq stock report for sco the following shareholders with >5% is shown:
Ralph Yarro
Darcy Mott
Canopy Group Inc
John Wall
If you then check out The Canopy Group website you will see the following as board members
Ralph Yarro - CEO & Presedent
Darcy Motto - Vice President, Treasurer and
Chief Financial Officer
This gives the Canopy group at least a 15% stake in SCO, possibly more.
If you look at SCO's board and then have a look at their share trading, you see the following:-
Charles BROUGHTON (VP world ops) sold about 120,000 USD worth of shares in the last two months
Robert BENCH (CFO) sold about 120K USD in last few months
Jeff HUNSAKER (s. VP)sold about 120K USD in last few months
Other than McBride (CEO) most of the board have ofloaded shares in the last month or two. To give you an idea of the "peak" of share selling. According to the Nasdaq the number of "insider" trades (i.e. board members) in the last 12 months was 15, and 12 (all of which were sales) of those were in the last 3 months (or as its know just after the Linux thing).
According to the Beeb and their article once on a "...machine the malicious program also launches an attack against the Microsoft site that holds a software patch that keeps the worm out."
.... that users of SCO products shouldn't be deprived the right to use things like GCC. It's not the person at the sharp end (e.g. fellow geeks, techs, developers) that would suffer NOT SCO.
What _may_ be affective (if its possible) is to, for the time being initially, revoke the GCC licence for use of SCO - so SCO cannot package it up on their systems (nor use it inside SCO to copmile products - i.e. stopping development at SCO until a new "GCC" style compiler has been written that _DOESN'T_ use FSF/GCC code), but allow individuals to do this.
Also, if SCO release ANY product, state that they _must_ be using copyrighted code illegally, and report them to the appropraite people and then, possibly, sue them!
...what would happen if we tried "attacking" SCO the best way we know how - ignore them!
Treat them the same way you'd treat an abnoxious, rude kid that is throwing a tantrum - walk away. When the kid sees there isn't an audiance they normally stop.
All that this sort of reporting does is create more FUD - and/. is falling into the trap of making a point of the amount of smoke the SCO is generating - and (accepting the golden rule about managers being sheep and not thinking for themselves) managers believe that where there's smoke....
All/.'ers and the press are doing is pumping this information up and ramping up the share price of a company that was very near to having death throws not so long back.
Until the Judge that hears the prelim falls about laughing before chucking the case out, there is nothing we (linux community,/.'ers, the general populas) can do.
So sit back, relax and when people go "What about SCO' case" go "BAH", wave them away with the words "shoo shoo" and then go back to making a difference.
And remember, you can't spell Scoundrels with out the letters s c o

1) Create a, or be an established, pissant little company that cannot survive in the current Marketplace.
2) Make a massive press release stating MS has stolen some of your code.
3) Refuse to show said code to anyone without first getting them to sign a gagging order, preferably using their family as collateral.
4) Get an injunction from a court to make MS destroy all copies of their Windows software anywhere in the world, siting SCO v's IBM as case history
5) Wait until the trial to have a bit of code that goes:-
// variable definitions
int a;
char *c;
6) When the court asks why they cannot find the above lines of code in this style in MS's code, claim, with a totally straight face that "well you don't think MS would be stupid enough not to split the lines up"
What a totally brilliant idea! Using the same ideas as the USB light you can have a cup that keeps your coffee warm, rather than, in my case, returning to said cup of coffee after a long code session to discover its cold!
