I work for a certain university's certain electrical engineering department doing IT. You would be amazed at how vehement our department's faculty are in defending their 8-bit and 16-bit applications. There is no way to make these frickin things go away, and they are a PITA to integrate in an environment where 95% of my faculty members and end-users want screaming edge software and updates and operating systems.:)
There are many academics who have analyzed "star power" and its relatioship to the major studios in Hollywood. There seems to be a consensus that commercial endeavors in Hollywood are high-risk due to the difficulty at predicting success of films. Studios are HEAVILY reliant on the use of "star power" as a commercial tool for marketing films. Studios are fine with paying a large sum of money or cutting a percentage of revenue for stars given the studios' fear of flops with no-name stars and the desire to replicate prior successes of films.
It is simple. Most of the people responsible for the behind-the-scenes horsepower work are completely different people than those who maintain web presence. A certain universitydepartment I work for is rife with Unix admins who swear by Mozilla, while the departmental web presence is designed and implemented with a very Internet Explorer-biased slant. For the longest time, our departmental website used Macromedia items like Flash. Shudder for us *NIX browsers.:/
Wow, that came out like I am a whiny bitch. I should take some time to express my appreciation to our web design crew for scrapping that deprecated layout in favor of a new, rejuvenated presence, WHICH RENDERS WELL IN MOZILLA/GALEON/KONQUEROR.:)
Time Warner Austin has been offering these for an additional $10/mo (topped onto the cost of the typical Digital Cable package) for almost a year now.
I am pretty unhappy with the unit. The UI is kludgy when it comes to managing scheduling recordings, managing erasure of recorded programs, and choosing to record.
Also, the unit will at times double cap programs, fail capture midway through programs when space is free, reboot itself during capture, and, if left unattended for a few days, power itself down.
Maybe I have the crappiest, earliest SA8K on the market. Or maybe these are just poorly made devices. From what I hear Tivo's Season Pass is a killer season capture feature which doesnt suffer from the same ailments as attempts to capture an entire season's lineup with the SA8K piece.
But at a mere $10/mo atop of a digital cable package, where I _dont have to buy the unit_ (!), its still sexy. Nothing beats PVR'ing Queer Eye For A Straight Guy and inviting ladies over to peep the technology.:)
Looks like Lawrence Lessig's fears of copyright extension are a little out of touch. Given that Gutenberg is apparently still covered some _1000_ years after press.
Same thing with Bob Lowe and Sierra's Leisure Suit Larry series. Great game, still fun today. Just dont try to use the 'Boss Key' to dupe your boss into thinking youre working. I dont think a blocky, CGA, 2D graph would fool the most feeble boss.:)
Deny all ports/routes/hosts. As lusers approach asking why the 'network is down', get your bofh on and ponder if their needs warrant opening said routes.
There are some of us why fly by the seat of our pants with 'gnu voh' technology. Plasma Displays, Fibre Channel, Serial ATA, USB 2.0, FireWire, 1254432x AGP. GIVE ME THE LATEST T3CH OR GIVE ME D3TH!!!
...
Whadda ya mean I need a floppy to install my network adapter drivers??!!!:D
Funny, because even in 1996, I found Altavista to be not very helpful in finding pertinent information. Rather, it was only fun to type in odd combinations of keywords and laugh at the results. Primitive googlewhacking of sorts.;)
My apartment complex is amazing! They built one of these 'water fountains' right into my kitchen! Built in splash basin, along with knobs to adjust the temperature and flowrate of my water fountain!
The managment also assembled an industrial-sized one in my bathroom, but that is a different story...;)
This article seems rather dated when discussing the FPS cheat-em-ups. Punkbuster has been dead in the water since early 2001. VAC is just now gradually working at bridging the gap between legitimate players and cheat-free bliss. Still buggier than a Brit tho.:>
Then again, it is poignant to observe the Q2-era cheats. When the mood strikes, and an old Q2 vet hits up the few Lith servers left on the Net, he is greeted typically with one or more players OBVIOUSLY craxing and haxing. Still going strong. The CS community is one which works hardest, imho, at a social more and communal interest in enforcing a 'policy' of sorts that cheating just sucks and work has to be done.
Isnt netsh a resource kit binary? Most users would have a dilly of a time since its not there by default (I believe, dont quote me ;)
Retail-boxed cards >200GB come with controller cards. WD, Maxtor, all of them. Or that has been my experience.
And these cards are decent; they're rebranded ATA133 Promise (PDC20269; PN: 10999690) controllers.

Yeah. Tell that to Coby or Sorny though. :)
But can I open/execute said files? Uh oh.
You have a variety of options:
- this one
- that one

Here is the direct link to the distribution for those who dare. 1098kB in size.

Not to worry! Shell out for Sprint's attempt to bring 'broadband' to the cellular telephone market! Thats right, Sprint PCS Vision is your answer!
:)
Pfft. I will sit down now.
Debian doesnt. :)
Praise be to apt and gcc!

And you thought Disney was slick.
Dude. You have more commas in that run-on than most of us have comments about SCO/Clippy/Bob/etc.
;)
But nyc.gov is sexy.
Yeah.. a little too sexy.

Blacklist it all. Scrupulously whitelist.

Lets see...
Samba as a PDC/BDC : cost of hardware
Apache as a webserver : cost of hardware
Microsoft as both : cost of hardware and obscene license fees.
Take Economics 101.
Now with Chuck Berry Spyware Technology!
Does it run Linux? :)
Also, can I have your kidney to sell to the Asian Organ Black Market? Cause your hardware recommendation is, like, kind of expensive.

It just simply floors me that AV is still about.
