I have been registered to NYTonline for several years, and I have yet to recieve any spam from them. I won't vouch for the quality of their articles (even though I read it everyday), but if you are getting spam, it isn't from the NYTonline
With the promised released of D2 v1.10 no where to be seen, it seems almost as if they are mocking their fan base by calling this patch 1.10. I mean, if it's such a significant upgrade, call it 2.0. Does 1.10 really have any significance? It's like, we'll update WC3 long before we think of you nerds! You've ruined our claim of a hack free b.net and now we're ruining your lives by holding a patch on the end of a stick right in front of you. C'mon, play just a little longer and you'll get it... lose a little bit more of your life.. that's a good boy...
"We have more than 1 trillion class A networks! All our citizens have their own private class A networks. Our IPv4 is superior to your silly dotted quad!"
Items do have unique IDs. This was introduced in 1.09 I believe, maybe 1.08. That's one of the big problems, how late this solution was. All the Stone of Jordans (the currency in D2 because in classic you could basically buy them and they are extremely rare.) The other is that the dupers have found ways around this. Especially items that the dupers create, although I have no idea how they create completely new items.
Unfortuantely, I don't think they could server-side item clean. This task would be beyond daunting. They don't even seem to have or want to devote teh resources to cleaning up inactive accounts. To sweep through the ?millions? of accounts and cross-check the 20-30 items average each has would be insane. So the only thing unique ID's do is prevent items from being in the same game, which should limit duping on a massive scale. However, like I said the hackers have since gotten around this on several occasions.
while they may not be supporting very actively, they do support it. They always patch server side exploits relatively quickly, but that's not something you'd notice if you just look at nice timelines. I think they are doing a remarkable job supporting a game that is so old...
Wow, it's amazing how much the Gamespot GBA editors don't give a damn about the GBA. I mean, MGS3 and MGS:TS are cool and all, but I want to know more about Boktai.
"Hey, you're creating a cool new inovative game. But lets talk about you rehashing a movie.. err game for an entirely different platform. We like to call ourselves journalist!"
Maybe I've just been stealth-gamed out, but then I also really like new things! oh well
Yeah, it's not like computers ever worked with less than 32 megs of RAM before. Or that an operating system already works on the playstation....
oh wait
sorry, I realize that DRM in itself isn't evil, but you have to communicate to the level of the slashdot crowd...
And actually, I had my technologies mixed up! No one even called me on that. I meant the TCPA/Palladium stuff. I believe games already encrypt themselves, and manage their copyrights fair enough, although people still break them..
But isn't this the perfect application for DRM? Only a signed and trusted executables can be run while connected to game servers. I mean, I only have windows for playing games, so it's not like for me it would be a big deal. But then again I don't want to let all the evil in the door. I'm so conflicted.
Wouldn't this be a fairly decent way to track people? Most people carry money on them, and while the money wouldn't have a unique identifier, I'd imagine someone who's clever could sidestep such.
But hey, it would probably be a great way to detect counterfeiting, you know, for about a month:-p
Tinfoil hats encouraged while reading this post (Too late!)
Anyone remember the seperate VR Missions game that came out after MGS? I really hope they include that. I almost had more fun doing those than playing the real game...
Okay, this is where the Matrix merchandising goes too far. So, everyone in the world knows about the Matrix? And are fighting against it? I mean, one of the draw of MMO is that 95% of the people you encounter have a player sitting behind it.
And what do you level treadmill against? Agents inhabiting the average Joe? Doesn't everybody BUT Neo pretty much lose to an Agent?
Fine, lets talk about special skills. In the movie, they can load up ANY skill you want into your brain at any time. On the page it talks about these things being like "trading cards". But still, do you improve these skills, or do you just get them and have the skills. I'm terrible at hand to hand combat.. oh wait, there's a "I know Kung FU" Neo card, now I'm a master. Wow, that's great...
I mean, I'm sure they can think up better gameplay than this, but will it be true to the Matrix universe? Or will it just be another corporate entity trying to mindlessly cash in on trends...
Everyday new PVR (DVR) technologies come out. Many of these don't have subscription fees../ geeks even know of some homebuilt linux solutions. There is nothing that TiVo provides that can't be had for free or for cheaper.
OTH, they have lasted this long because they provide all these things in one box in an easy to use form factor. Hallmarks of Apple. But I don't think the Steve's golden touch can help TiVo.. it's on the way out unless they can find a new buisness model. Sorry.
if anyone had RTFA, they are banning bags of less then 30 *MICRONS* thickness. (The current bags are 17) Of course the consumer gets the to pay the cost of that extra.01 gram of plastic
Actually, the funny thing about the prostitution in the game, I never knew about it till the news media told me. It's not required and, honestly, not very obvious.
As for the violence, that's the norm in games, movies, tv, books, music.... our culture.
Assuming an average of 12 songs, and 15$ dollars when bought in the store.. that's 6250$ from apple and 9375$ from the store. Seems like apple wins on when filling an iPod
Actually, internally it might be too rough. Flesh wounds are a daily occurance and cardboard dust gets EVERYWHERE. Like, my chest is black with the stuff after 4 hours. Under a t-shirt and sweatshirt.
I tried taking my iPod into work to listen to music while I worked. I swear it aged about 2 years in one day. Hasn't worked correctly since. And if you're talking about the drivers who stop by to drop off packages, what company in their right mind would beta test anything that had to interface with the customer. "I need your signature here ma'am. Dammit, another blue screen." that'll send 'em right to FedEx
Eventually the technology was supposed to help loaders determine which packages went into each feeder
Seriously, this was needed a long time ago. The standard for UPS is that 1 in 2000 boxes is allowed to be missorted (Sent to the wrong destination.) I've been told each one costs the company between 10 and 60 dollars.(extra transit + customer refund) At millons of packages shipped every day, this has to be one of their biggest expenses. And it would be so easy to implement some form of computer check. Relying on us Loaders while expecting us to load at a break-neck pace is only a recipe for disaster. (At Xmas, our area had a missort frequency of about 1 in 200!)
Okay, so doing almost entirely manual labor all alone for four hours a day leaves me plenty of time to redesign the whole system in my head.
Actually, internally UPS has been "wireless" for years. I work as a "Loader" packing boxes into 18-wheeler type trucks. (Whenever I just say trucks, people assume the brown ones they see on the street.) We have to scan the barcode on every box and the device we use is wireless and straps on teh wrist, with a scanner eye on our hand. However, the tech used is circa '94 and often the things have lots of problems connecting. Can be a problem.
In may, these systems will be replaced with a system with better wireless performance. And the eye piece will be wireless too, so we can wear the computer on our hip.
then again, I wouldn't exactly consider EA a _good_ developer.
Say what you will about the quality of EA's games... They publish 1 out of every 4 made!!!! I doubt microsoft can make it in the long run without them.
Seriously... even though Mozilla "won", it was only because it could do XML, which safari can't handle properly yet. Excluding that test.. Safari was the only browser that was perfect on all tests.
I could certainly develop some tests that safari would fail....
Seriously, is this meaningful in any way whatsoever?

So, yeah... Windows Mobile 2003?
What happened to PocketPC?
What happened to WinCE?
Is the Microsoft mobile platform so disliked they have to change the name every-time they release a new version? Just an observation.

1.) They can't count past one, and therefore are confused by the instructions...

Our culture has become completely disposable

I think everyone does. It's just some people realize that green pieces of paper aren't the only form of acceptable pay.(Karma anyone?)

Ha! I found the fatal flaw in Merlin... It's not Y2K compliant! look at the parents gif CC EXP. DATE: 1004 ;)
