Here it's every man woman and teen for themselves. No one EVER yields, no one obeys any rules and red lights are just suggestions. People only have 2 driving speeds: 85mph on the highway and 17mph on every other road.
Anyway without signs how are they going to justify hiring eleventybillion cops to write traffic tickets?
Because skills in the US don't matter as long as employers are spending BILLIONS in Asia to 're'-source their jobs there. Would YOU go get a CS degree if you were 50% sure that 50% of the jobs would be moving to Asia in the next 10 years? I would not and neither should you.
Chairman doesn't mean squat for operational performance. And for that stock price - 11/18/2003 price was 25.84 that's what, three and a half bucks in 3 years - what's the cube root of +13%? 2.5% cgr
They inflated their own importance for years until such time as they garnered sufficient funding to fuck up whole companies. But in fact "IT" is not anyone's core competency - unless you are an outsourcer or service provider. That's the MBA factoid all these CIO's miss - technological glorification for its own sake. I don't care how large your company is, there is no such thing as a patient records DB system that costs billions of dollars. It simply can't happen. So when they embark on these grand missions to the new world in the name of Empire of Spain or whatever the hell they think they're doing, they're just creating a messy boondoggle.
Teachers have ever lowering expectations and students stoop to meet them. And let's face facts we are experiencing the Wikipediazation of Knowledge aka Truthiness. Things are whatever you claim them to be. Facts and accuracy don't matter and no one cares.
So what do we actually care about what he has to say about it? Bill doesn't work for or at MS any more and hasn't really had his head in the company for years. I know because I am a shareholder who is greatly disappointed at their miserable performance.
What it will evolve to is Blockbuster simply copying a movie to a USB drive and lending you the drive. That way the store doesn't have to actually have any physical inventory at all. You bring the thumb drive home, play the movie - accounting for whatever DRM etc etc etc and then you bring the drive back to Blockbuster for wipe and a new movie. That way the bottleneck is eliminated.
Seems odd - check up on the locations of people you can walk over to talk to in person. Or don't young people do that any more? Oh well there's no end to the stupid crap you can sell to the younger generation.
They'll bundle it with 9 other 'fixes' that break everything else. Please - we're going to be stuck with IE7 breaking shit for weeks now that people are 'fixing' IE6 automatically.
Huge waste of effort time and money. All in the name of making sure of something or other vaguely related to another Enron. We spend billions every year furiously auditing and managing compliance for essentially zero net improvement in security.

No not really. We had primitive hyperlinking through Syracuse University's network back then. We were connecting to other universities in Japan, Switzerland and even the Soviet Union back then. Sure it was crude but we still had Archie, Gopher, Veronica and such. I'm not talking about Compuserve. But hey we can all make the wrong assumptions, can't we?
Then why have I been online since 1987?

NC state controls and owns the facility so they get to control the decor. In this case the entire arena was done and NC State didn't like the shade of red so all the seats were torn out and replaces with the right Wolfpack red. I have to say that if the color was the wrong red it would really suck.
Registration causes me to abandon online store sites. I have a credit card. We've been working out the bugs for 50 years. Credit card sales work pretty well already. I am not going to waste a lot of time registering for your damn website in order to qualify to spend my money with you. Sorry. If you really really really really really really want me to do your market research for you I demand a discount - maybe free shipping, which is my other pet peeve. It really doesn't cost $15 bucks to pick, pull and pack that widget. I'll trade a few seconds of load up time for that. Now get to work assholes. I'm the customer, not you.
What that means is that India is experiencing its own outsourcing dilemma. Rates are actually too high for India. So they are looking to outsource their development to even less developed countries such as Vietnam, Angola, Malaysia. Even Africa. Those jobs are NEVER coming to America. NEVER. If they can't afford rates in Mumbai they certainly can't afford Research Triangle Park, NC or even Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Everyone knows that Ares 1 is a fake project. We are never going to go back to the Moon or elsewhere this century. Manned spaceflight beyond LEO is essentially dead. Instead we are weaponizing near-space.
If Apple develops a consumer brainless one button fail safe migration utility to take every doc, bookmark, photo, song and whatnot from a PC to a Mac and have them run 100% right out of the box, then that is the killer app. Given the price differential between a new Apple and the projected incremental cost of a Vista capable there is no longer any disadvantage in going Mac.
They've all proved themselves to be calm levelheaded and rational when it comes to the strategic employment of military and economic resources. Plus, they're at least as enlightened if not moreso than the pinnacle of western culture. Their educational systems are world class, their level of social mobility and tolerance is excellent and political systems are open, transparent, democratic and have sterling checks and balances. If anything we should simply give them all nukes.

Seriously. Why is that?
I predict a field failure rate in excess of 5% due to heat issues. Mostly the direct result of vent blockage.
I predict substantial customer feedback along the lines of "This fan, why so loud?"
I predict at least one front page story involving a whole unit spontaneously erupting in fire.
With "Provide solid gold Prostitutes to starving people in Africa"
No. No ads to talk on the phone. No No No No No. No Joke. No No No No.

Isn't the Wintel Deathmarch Upgrade cycle something we understand by now? You make a new OS IN ORDER TO make people buy more hardware.

You have nothing to fear. Look, I'm sure it's all fine and we can trust our overlords with unlimited power. It always works out well.
