there really should be a special mod category for trolls that are worth reading.
Pretty sure there is one, called +1 Funny, but you're right, that one does deserve something special. I think the mod system works well, but it's really outdated. Maybe I'll crank out some cgi over the weekend and host a public vote for new mod catagories for my web page... or then again, maybe not.
So... does this mean that once it's forgotten I can snag up la.la for a kids teletubby fan site?
HOLY COW these things are expensive. I just registered a.org name today (stfrancis-of-assisi.org) for $8.95/yr and they want $50.00 a year for 2 years for a.la according to www.la . DAMN, that's kind of high.
Some other TLDs I'd like to see....WTF.RTFM.RTFA.BOFH.FNG.SNAFU.FUBAR
I'll bet when she calls the hotel, the lowly bellman even knows what 'wireless internet access' means.
Or.. maybe he's already checked with the hotel she stays at and they don't offer it? NOT all hotels offer wifi in the rooms.
It's a pretty common mistake. I was showing off my PPC with a WiFi card in it, and have been asked more than once if I could get email anywhere around town.
Do you insist that she call the 'gas pedal' an 'accelerator pedal', or maybe a 'remote air/fuel mixture control'?
Personally, I don't care what she calls it. It's a WiFi card and doesn't have one.
I know Linksys WAPs have been known to cause problems with other brands of WAPs. I don't know if there is a work around, since IT pulled our access to them before we had a chance to troubleshoot.
On another note, why did I just get modded up after someone pointed out my lack of understanding?
Because smoking crack is one of the first rules of being a moderator!
On the WiFi issue, I have one wap in my house. I have no range problems, even on the wimpy little 11b card for my PPC. Sounds like the author needs to buy a smaller house!
That has got to be one of the sweetest ideas for legos I've seen in a long time. I also think it's a HUGE waste of time and effort, but I guess if you've got a itch, scratch it.
I used to be able to solve the old 3D one in about 20 mintues, but I've cheated and read the book.
Oh? My health insurance is still as expensive as fuck, and my college tuitition is $36,000 a year and rising. Those are pretty bad indicators of a "socialist state" forming...
Hmmm... doing a quick google on Federal Spedning shows that in 1999 we spent 42% of the federal budget on Social Issues (Medicare, Medicade, Social security). Compare this to the other big ticket items like Defense spending (16%) and I think you can see why people feel that we're turning into a socialist country.
YOUR health insurance payments are high, as is your college tuitition. This is because in addition to paying for your coverage and schooling, you're also helping to pay for everyone elses too. Want a free ride to school and free medical? Quit your job, go on welfare. Between the state and federal "programs" that exist today, you're pretty sure to not miss a class on the tax payers dime.
Oh, and btw - we have a standing Army to protect the state. The second ammendment provides a means for the PEOPLE to protect themselves FROM the state, or so I've been lead to understand.
Most jobs wouldn't be so fun if you had to both work 30-40 hours a week, devote your weekends to work AND run the risk that any mistake you make could devestate your practice and family.
Hmmm... Let's not forget that you know that any mistake you make might not only devestate your practice and family, but end up killing someone and destroying their life and family.
I'm thankful that I'm not a doctor. Remember hearing that the average doctor finishes school by 30, gets out of debt by 40, retires at 50 and is dead by 60. Don't know if that's true or not, but, but I'll take my chances elsewhere!
Whether you are going to win or lose is determined before you even put the coin in!
Close, if you're going to win or loose is determined WHEN you put the coin in, that's when the RND seed is chosen and the tables fixed in place. The flashing lights, spinning wheels and sexy graphics are just to keep you interested. At least according to the special I just watched on Discovery about slots in Las Vegas - YMMV in other places.
Show me self opening doors, lights that work when i say "illuminate" and the ability for me to issue a search command verbally to an avatar to search for information to display on that TV... then it's the room of the future.
Haven't tried the last, but the first two are fairly simple and inexpensive to set up (depending on how you want the door to open). MSVoice (winders) or Via Voice/Festivle (linux) and Misterhouse (misterhouse.net) provide just about everything you could want in a smart home for not a lot of money (starting hardware $50 and misterhouse is free/OSS).
I don't subscribe to any porn channels, but I know that there is at least one that's hardcore (Spice) and many PPV options.
Hmmm, well... not that I'm an expert on US porn channels, but... last time I checked, Spice had two versions. One is softcore (no penetration shown) and the other shows penetration. I have no idea where the hardcore version (if it's still around) can be found, but never where I live. It's been years since I've even thought to buy a PPV "porn" on cable, ever since I got a cable modem, haven't seen the need.
From my experience, the TV channels here in the states are really prudish when compared to the Euro shows. A year in Germany really kind of opened my eyes as to what other cultures are ok with.
Give any soldier the choice between a set of combat gear or the scorpion suit, and he'll choose the combat gear. Give him a choice between the OICW or an M16, and he'll choose the M16.
I don't think that I'd stretch that statement to say *any* soldier would prefer one over the other. Yes, you're going to have some old school hard core troops that don't want to evolve to the next evolution of combat gear, but your average new troop going into basic is going to love this stuff. The beauty of the equipment, is in case of a complete electronics failure - you're still no worse off than if you didn't have it. The OICW's fire control is still mechanical. Fancy scope goes dead? Take it off. Total system failure of the scorpian? Take off the goggles/helmet. You're still no worse off than if you didn't have it. But, when the system is working, you've got a huge advantage over the combatant that doesn't have it.
The article is very misleading with the weights that soldiers carry in the field. When I was active duty, our "heavy" ruck was 35lbs. Add personal gear and an M16, might add another 10-15lbs. And if you can help it, you don't carry your ruck into combat - takes about a second to get off.
I guess that's the difference between the masses of the great unwashed and the geeks. The geeks look at a problem that can be solved with a gadget. The herds of people look at the toys the geeks have made and say, "Hey, that's kind of neat. I need one too."
Do you *NEED* one? No, of course not. You don't even *NEED* a computer. Do you want one for the toy appeal or do you look at it as a tool that you can use to make your life better, easier or more organized? Since I do a bit of development for handheld devices, I think I know what catagory I fall into.

The scene I was talking about was COMPLETE CGI. I'm not talking about taking little bits and using CGI. Guess what? In Forrest Gump, the actor still had to ACT like he had no legs. They didn't completely replace him like they replaced Keanu in Matrix Reloaded.
Intersting point. I'm suprised that no one has thought up (or that I haven't read on/.) that time spent in the Matrix reality *IS* a CGI. I wonder if they used as much CGI in the Matrix part of the film to widen the gap between what is susposed to be real and what we think is real.

Probably not until he gets a short as the peltier probably doesn't draw much current at all, but a short in the cable would take advantage of all those rich chunky amps the computer PS can generate. Ever notice that shorting the +12 or +5 lines on a PS usually doesn't shut it down?
I've seen 12vdc, 24vdc and 110vac run over Cat5 and they do fine, longest run was of the 24Vdc - ran about 200-300 feet with no problems. I've also seen 110Vac run over a scsi-1 cable with no problems. It's current more than voltage.
