I'm sure there will be plenty of problems with the new release, and it's always smart to put it off as long as possible.

We have been off cable for several years, and quit when we lived in a different town and the local cable was going to require a cable box. We continued with that when we moved to a town with Comcast.

Obviously, you would want to rent for long trips. I just got back from vacation, and we wimped out and drove 320 mile legs per day. I have a PHEV, and we get around 500-600 miles per tank. Electric is only good for around 25 miles a charge, but worked well to drive electric only at our destination. Level 2 charger fully charged us in 2-3 hours, and level 1 at destination hotel was 5-6. With a BEV, that would take 9-12 at level 2 i'd bet. Driving long distances would be challenging electric only with current technology.

I loved Uber the few times I used it, but deleted my account and quit using it several months ago due to reports of harassment, and the way they treated their drivers. Latest thing was apparently their no-tip thing was that they paid fairly and tipping was built into the cost. Now they offer tipping in the app because they were shorting the drivers and the no-tipping thing was bullshit.

If you want to keep Google's advertising profile analytics software out of your email, then Gmail is awful. Your email will be scanned by systems that try to work out what you might be interested in buying, and this data will be correlated with web searches (if you don't have web history disabled), and data from other Google products. The resulting information will be used by Google (not by advertisers; they don't get access to the treasure trove) to show you ads for things you might want to buy, instead of things that you almost certainly don't want to buy.

You make some good points, and with the standard noscript and adblocking setups, this last point is pretty much moot.
