What did this do to your power consumption? I'd like to build a 2TB RAID5 server, but I already saw a spike in my electricity bill due to my MythTV box that's on 24/7:-)
200+ zero-cloud days?? Just think of the skin cancer possibilities! I think I'll move there right away and pay $500K for an 800-sq ft apartment, AND get a melanoma or two!
Seriously, I'd take Portland weather over that anytime, don't even have to think twice about it.
So lemme guess - either your kids are old enough to sleep without waking up every half hour asking for mommy or daddy, or you just don't sleep at all. Or both.
I'm using an Acer wireless IR keyboard that I bought for $12.50 here, but now I see the price is only $9.00 (!). I use this with my HTPC (MythTV), and it works perfectly. It has a built-in mouse - it's a little tricky to use at first, but it works fine. The keyboard is nice and compact (350mm wide), essentially the size of a regular keyboard minus the number pad. And the package even came with two Duracell AA batteries for the keyboard.
I think these keyboards have been sitting around for a while - mine had a "works with Windows 95" sticker on the box.:-)
drivelikejehu - seems like you'd want to record shows in a lossless format (i.e., wav). In that case, how much time can you record in wav format using the iHP-120?
Does anyone know whether the Karma also allows you to record to wav using an external mic?
You're right that you can't download full ISOs for SuSE. However, you can download an ISO of their live eval CD to give SuSE a try. And let's not forget that you can do full installs of SuSE via ftp (same link as above). SuSE 9.0 ftp installs should be available soon.
That is utterly ridiculous. You can easily assign or remove file associations in Irfanview under the Options menu. Not only that, you can choose at install time which associations you want.
I use Irfanview nearly every day. It is hands down *the* best lightweight image program I have found. I use the batch processor all the time. Check out Irfanview, you won't be sorry.
How the heck did you get all six D's to ignite at the same time? We made our own rocket with a cluster of four C engines, but getting them to ignite at the same time was difficult - hence, it was hard to get the thing to fly straight up. Wiring the igniters to fire simultaneously was not difficult - the problem was getting the engines themselves to ignite simultaneously.
It's not really about whether *you* can find a HAM operator. It's about what HAMs with their mobile, battery-powered rigs can do to aid city/county/state/federal emergency communications. They can provide a significant amount of aid, and that's why emergency personnel often include them in disaster preparedness drills.
In my opinion, NiMH batteries are the way to go. I'm not kidding when I say I'll take them to my grave:-) I bought twelve AA batteries years ago for my digital camera, and I'm still using them daily. They've gone through hundreds of charging cycles and still last much longer than alkaline batteries in the same application.
A couple of notes:
Buy a "smart" charger. This is important - you want a charger that will provide just a trickle of juice when the batteries become fully charged. This way, you don't have to worry about removing the batteries from the charger after X number of hours. Maha makes fantastic smart chargers. The C401FS is really nice - I have its older brother, the C204F.
Go for the highest mAH rating possible, unless you're using the batteries in something like a mini flashlight or remote control. I bought the green Sanyo 1600 mAH "industrial grade" AA batteries three years ago and they have been exceptional performers. Sanyo now has 2100 mAH batteries, and here Here are some more good ones (2200 mAH).
NiMH batteries can cause problems with things like flashlights -- they work best in electronic devices such as digicams. I have a couple of Mini Maglites (that take 2 AA batts), and have found that the bulbs burn out much more quickly when using NiMH batteries. The documentation that comes with the new bulbs mentions that, too.
Would love to:-) But we've decided to wait a bit longer to see what happens with blue-laser DVD writers. If prices come down to consumer or "prosumer" levels by next year, we'll go for it. 23GB per disc would be fabulous!
Any sort of imagery (satellite, aerial photo, digital orthophoto, scanned maps, your digital pix, etc.) or any sort of video requires a LOT of space. I work in GIS and I'm always running out of disk space due to receiving new imagery sets. Between disk space and CD-R archives, we now have well over a terabyte of imagery, and that's just the beginning.
It is still possible. Go grab BootIt NG and follow the prompts to create an ISO image. Burn the bootable CD, boot your system, enter maintenance mode (instead of installing to your hard drive). Voila, you have a full-fledged partitioning program that doesn't depend upon Windows, or any other OS for that matter. Works great, I have used it many many times to create/resize/delete partitions for dual-boot systems.
Exactly. Why else do you think the White House would be hindering all efforts of the 9/11 inquiry panel? They should have noticed the warning signs, and paid attention to the U.S. Commission on National Security for the 21st Century's report
This man is a religious zealot, who has tried in a number of ways to (1) inject his religious extremism into government, and (2) expand his snooping powers by any means necessary (example: TIA). Any number of links would have sufficed, but you get the point.
I always use BootIt NG to create/resize/modify partitions. It contains nearly as many tools as Partition Magic, works with virtually any partition type, and has a decent interface. You can create a bootable CD or floppy and not have to worry about which OS is installed (unlike PM).
This has got to be one of the most hilarious movies ever made. One of my all time favorites.
...the hell's angel-style motorcycle dude... ...the motorcycle dude catching the fly... ...the motorcycle dude picking off the rabbit... ...the two convicts screaming about leaving the baby on top of the car... ..."Son, you got a panty on your head."...
I sold my SL-5500 a few months ago and honestly can't remember how quickly Konq and Opera loaded. But I know I'd remember if it were really slow because it would have annoyed the heck out of me.:-)
The Zaurus is an amazing machine but I found that I spent most of my time giving it care and feeding, instead of using it to be more productive. It was also my first PDA. After a while I realized I'd be a lot happier (and more productive) just using a laptop, which is what I did.
Speaking of productivity, you arcade fans will be happy to discover that MAME has been ported to the Zaurus. Works great!
The 5500 came (comes) packaged with a version of Opera. You can also install an embedded version of Konqueror. See here for more software than you'll know what to do with:-)

There was a large thread about this recently on the mythtv user's forum.

oops, /. didn't like the < sign in the subject line. That should read "MSN protocols < 8.0"
It appears this may be just affecting MSN's older protocols (MSNP7 and below). See this post and this link, which is referenced in the post.
BTW, I use Miranda and think it's a great Open Source alternative to Trillian. Check it out.
By "wireless security assessments," he probably means "wardiving in my neighborhood" :-)

I feel nothing for Ashcroft, except maybe hatred.
